Thanks!! to Standing Passengers for letting me post this, here's a great Graffiti Documentary based out of Chicago. All City! Definitely give them a follow! / channel
Thanks alot for posting this. Funny hearing these writers complain about kids getting their styles from magazines. Now the kids they were complaining about are complaining about how kids now are getting their letters from Instagram 😭😭🤣
Pengo is a straight up philosopher. I hope dude is living well. I read that he was a Christian minister. What he says about graffiti being part of the urban ecosystem is so true. Writers understand the environment and the topography of the city. They touch it, they feel it, they interact with it in a way that most people never do. For a writer the city is not a collection of nodes to get to but a continuous system of sensory information ... a life force. I wish I knew Pengo when I was writing. He would be a great mentor. Dude is spot on.
Yea we’ll you have to ask if you need help and the newer gen doesn’t and tries to bite style from the internet and they mix and match letters and it looks shitty
so cool to see production on graff in my hometown. this is where it all started for me. glad to see there are still people in the graff world who still really care
Shit being a kid from outside Chicago, the mid90’s early 2000 style still luckily made it to me. Grateful for everyone that pushed snd developed their style
Somebody should write a memoir about ERIE ... and then turn that shit into a screenplay. I would. If you're from Chicago and wrote graff in the 90s you know this dude is a king. His stories would make great TV or a movie. Doing a show about Chicago writers in the 90s in the style of the movie KIDS would be mad dope. Can we do this?
I wonder how many workers in the cleanup crew were all, “boss, are you sure we gotta take this one down?.. it really adds some character to a shitty alleyway… just sayin…”
Uhh idk why folks on here saying Graff in the Chi is dead.. lol have yall seen the highways? Even Metras are getting hit. Heaven spots. Cta. Red Line has been popping. Blue line. Freights always poppin. Covid brought Graff back tenfold in Chicago. Chicago isn't my city but I've seen whats going on with my own eyes. It's alive and well out there. Still hard af, but alive. The handful of graffers out here are going HARD. 815🤘🏻JTOWN
Syfer/Cyf was God during this time period. Let’s keep it real. Dude was public enemy #1. 2002-2007 Syfer put the hurt on Everything and Everyone. Except maybe uptown on the red line. Mul/H20 Vespa-Jekyl-Koname-Telly. Dc5 was the most 🔥piece crew. Aom vs EDSKREW was on fire. Jems-Syfer just fucking shit up. Nonstop.
This is a shortened version. The original cut is on TH-cam th-cam.com/video/CYSOyhMai28/w-d-xo.html "After completing the primary photography and original edit of the film, a partnership that formed while making the film went very sour. A huge re-edit was forced and a main character was cut from the film. Thus, the released 63 minute version was created. After a tragic death and a much needed reconciliation, the film was allowed to be re-edited and 4 additional, original characters were added to the film, as well as extended original interviews."
This was great too see, has anyone herd of The Buff Capital? It’s a fantastic documentary on Chicago graffiti from the late 90s, I’ve got it on vhs but can’t find it anywhere else. Anyone see it?
does anyone know or remember a video between 2004 - 2009 when a writer fell on the third rail. they made a whole documentary about it and dedicating him. i e been searching for years
@@thestinkycheeseman2208 yo that’s him! Do you know where to find the graff video they made about some writers and dedicated the video to him? I lost it and am hoping it’s out there somewhere
@@teesprintandapparel I don't know the doc you speak of, but wouldn't mind seeing it. I had a dog named Kiser after him, he oddly met his end by getting smacked by a truck on the highway.
@@chicago_rocker23 vandalizing a wall is not the same thing as physically assaulting a person. Graffiti is self expression, it’s a visual art. Legality has nothing to do with that
@@yommish you said you don't understand people's perspectives on art. I pointed out that graffiti is done with out permission - similar to forced copulation. Then I pointed out that street art or practice walls are done with the owners consent. One form is acceptable because it is permitted, graffiti is an Artform that is forced upon owners and whatnot so it isn't seen as art. I don't fully understand your reply so you'll have to elaborate more in detail. I'm not wrong for making this comparison, it's simple to grasp. Permission = legal / no permission = illegal just like making love is an act of procreation vs. Raping a woman is a sex crime. We're still treating graffiti as crime right?? What world do you live in where it's okay to write on ppls property w out permission? Ppl trip on that.
you talkin bout freights or city transit trains though. cause freights are still popping pretty much in every region. crews like cmw and xmen been keeping the cta stuff alive somewhat but they never run. gets buffed too fast. bombing in chicago has been mostly relegated to the highway and rooftops off out south now. i love the big wall on 290 from harlem to austin lots of good wall real estate over there and it doesnt get buffed super often. the city got what it wanted for the most part alot of chicago graff is legal walls and permission walls now.
Yo Skew !! Anyone know how to get in touch w him ? I haven’t seen or heard from him since the mid 90s. Met him in Miami . Please connect . I appreciate it . Rage Inkheads
Race has nothing to do with graffiti. Nothing. Doesn’t matter who you are, rich or poor, it’s a level playing field out here and you can either excel or not. Simple as that.
For me in Chicago I didn't peace just bomb, write, and I loved graffiti wars even if I was just seeing 2 crew's go at it thru the city. Good Old days. 🫠
Thanks alot for posting this.

I just don't understand how people sat this isn't art. Sure maybe it's considered vandalism, but it's still definitely art.
