Been waiting for a Plaid update! Yeah that driver's door gap is way beyond acceptable. We took delivery of our Plaid at about the same time as you and fortunately we lucked out with build quality with a minor exception of the rear hatch gap on one side was a little off, but apparently within Tesla spec. Tesla would not adjust it.
I'm surprised Tesla has not addressed the inner tire wear issue with all the negative TH-cam press and it being a legitimate safety issue. There is a simple solution of adjustable control arms, but this leaves a risk of warranty issues down the road since Tesla is not kind to any modifications. We decided to buy the winter tire package for $2750 that comes with the 19" wheels and PZero winter tires. Figure these tires will last a few seasons and extend the 21" Michelin tire life. But we live in a colder climate where snow is in the forecast.
The white interior definitely gives the Plaid a much more luxurious feel and would choose it for sure.
Overall, the Plaid is incredible, IMO.

Love this comment. Thanks for watching and glad you’re enjoying your plaid! I love the wide tires and I love the look but might consider something different in the future. I figured I’d be spending the money one way or another buying this car.
Haven’t scheduled yet with Tesla for my panel gaps to be looked at but curious if they will deem it as “within spec”

Tesla wouldn't adjust the gap on the rear hatch in your case because if they did, they'd cause several other gap issues. If you just got a 2024, most or all of them seem to be out of square on the rear quarter panels but about 1/4" longer cross from upper left to lower right vs upper right to lower left.

My cousin works at a body shop that regularly fixes Tesla panel gaps. It's not terribly expensive relative to the price of the car, and helps the resale value a bit as well.

Yoke Yes!!!! it makes the Model S that much Unique, your description of FSD is correct 100%. For Highway driving on long trips, it's great. I only use on long highway trips. In town/urban driving I don't use it because it's more stressful. That gap on the hatch is same on my 2020 Model s and I agree about the alignment for the flagship should be much better

Install rear camber arm links to fix inner tire wear. Or use the 19" tires instead of the 21".

I have the same MSP same color but with black interior and opted for the round steering wheel. I personally did not like or want the yoke, to me it's a safety issue and I just didn't want to have to get used to the yoke, MHO. Also, I just had the steering wheel replaced under warranty (only have 3,500 on it) with the new center mechanical horn, they replaced the airbag as well because the new one now has the horn symbol embedded at the bottom, this is required by NHTSA, the horn icon in the upper part of the steering wheel has also been replaced with a video icon. I had it replaced because the left blinker would sporadically stop working 😉😉.

Don’t get the 21’s guys. The 19’s get better range and don’t wear as fast. Also the panel gap issues are pretty common for a Model S. I think Tesla has to improve their manufacturing processes. Study what Toyota does in that regard and compare it to Tesla. Also my recommendation for seat care is Chemical Guys Leather Care kit.

FYI....friend got one of the first Plaids in the NYC area. Big street racer and made over $250k in the first year on the street! Was smart enough to know that beating the competition on the street by ONLY 1/2 to 1 car length ALMOST ALWAYS got the car he beat to come back and race him again when the competition added 100hp with NOS and still got beat but by a smaller margin! 5 years ago that was a great way for racers to make lots of money! Took a little more than a year for other racers to WISE UP! Can't do that today, but paying for his Plaid PLUS $100K in pocket was awesome! He went so far as to change the funky steering wheel and taking any sign of a PLAID off the car. Actually had the car wrapped a few times in fifferent colors, changing tires and wheels to drag radials (for looks!) and having a FRIEND drive the car to sucker other racers in! He likes the car with flaws in gaps, making it look like a used beater. It was great fun while it lasted and luckily no one got hurt EXCEPT others wallets! I know this has nothing to do with a review, but DAMN, that car was fast!!!😊

You keep calling FSD AP. AP comes standard. You have to pay for FSD. All the things you're complaining about with driver alertness happen on AP.
The gap issues with the doors are fixable but they're more likely to fix them for free if you complain about them early. They will only fix localized alignment issues which means it's a bit of whack-o-mole with Tesla because they'll often fix one alignment issue only to cause another. For doors, the rear quarter panels are the anchor references. You have to start from the rear doors aligned to the quarter panels, then move to the front doors moving to align the gaps and tilts with the rear doors, and finally the front fenders. Lastly, door strikes for flushness. Took me about 3 hours to do a 4 doors, fenders, and hood.
You have alignment issues on all doors, fenders, and your hood some worse than others.
The Plaid is not heavier than the Long Range and in fact, it's a few hundred pounds lighter than any previous performance Model S. The car comes standard with 19" wheels which are FASTER, corner better, last 30K+ miles, are more comfortable, more affordable, more pothole damage resistant, much better range, etc, etc. The list goes on and on. There's literally zero advantage to getting the 21" wheels.

@@WiryOak Having an undergraduate degree in physics does not in any way qualify someone as an engineer, much less a CHIEF engineer. Even new college grads with mechanical engineering and EE/comp-sci degrees can barely find their asses with a map. It takes years of on-the-job additional experience to become competent, and decades of doing complex, successful designs and projects to get to the level of a chief engineer. Elon wouldn't even know how to design a screw if his life depended on it, and has never designed anything mechanical in nature his whole life. He wrote some code for his first online banking company, X (he has a hard-on for that letter) all of which had to be rewritten by real software engineers after he was kicked out of the company because it was so awful, and by the testament of those software engineers, it was really mediocre, inefficient code. So he can't even do that well. Elon is a showman, a salesman, a conman. And that showmanship works, because millions (including you it seems) have been bamboozled into thinking that he's some sort of genius and an engineer. He is neither. He just cosplays as an engineer. And guess who gave him the title of chief engineer at SpaceX and Tesla? He did. He gave HIMSELF all sorts of grandiose titles. He did not EARN those titles. He owns those companies and can call himself whatever he wants. Calling himself a chief engineer or even an engineer does not make him one anymore than me calling my d!ck Pope Francis doesn't actually make my d!ck the pope. Elon hires tens of thousands of smart, capable engineers to do all the engineering work, while he attends meetings, memorizes some buzzwords, then regurgitates those buzzwords in front of the cameras to a mostly layperson audience who are impressed by the big words he uses that they don't know. But those of us who ARE engineers see through his BS in two seconds and see him for what he is: a poser. He's made money by bamboozling investors with big promises that he's mostly under-delivered on or never delivered. If you think Elon does any actual engineering, technical design or coding work at any of his companies, you probably also think Ronald McDonald makes your burgers at McDonald's. 🤡
