Seriously, this is a textbook example of "How you should create your tutorial". 6 mins in and I'm ready to record with every function I want. Thanks Kevin!
I have been searching for hours for a solution to two problems: 1. Recording with two microphones at the same time and 2. importing .mp4 files to audacity and you gave answers to both in this video! Thank you!!
I have four microphones in one room, and I've been searching for months trying to find a way to do this. You saved literally my entire studio by explaining this to me. I was very ready to throw my computer and microphones out the window. You are a life saver!!
I want to use potentially five microphones for a podcast, did you use a USB Hub, or how did you connect so many microphones into your laptop or computer device?
I followed all the instructions in the video, but out three mics I have connected through a USB hub, only one keep working no matter what I do. Thoughts?
If it’s all the same microphone type it might show up as the three of the same name, and you have to be careful to select different microphones for each line. For me I use Bumblebees, which are good quality, cheep microphones, and I have to test every time I connect them that I haven’t clicked two for the same line. It could also be microphone problem. Have you tried testing the microphones individually through OBS? If all else fails, mess around with the audio settings for a bit. Or have someone else watch the video and look at it. Sometimes fresh eyes help discover strange problems. Good luck!!
Just an over all comment on all your videos. I am not a computer person per say. So it drives me nuts when I go to a Tutorial video for OBS, etc... And they fly through the process. Your videos are extremely easy to follow, and you really seem to understand if the viewer is not well versed in the editing world, we need people like you out there that can make it easy to learn. Thanks, and your a 5 Star channel all day long. Keep these tutorials coming!!!
OH EM GEEEEEE!!! I've been so frustrated trying to record two different mics in garage band. I've bought and sold a couple of different mics and was considering scrapping the entire thing and buying all new xlr equipment and an external mixer. All of this made me question my sanity for even wanting to start a podcast in the first place. Then I stumbled upon your video and when I first watched it, I didn't understand any of it and was about to click off when I read the comments of how you helped solve everyone's recording dilemmas. I decided to give your solution a try and once I downloaded the software, I was able to follow along step by step and have successfully recorded multiple tracks with different mics. I think my next step is downloading audacity because now garage band is speeding up the music track when I tried to insert it at the beginning of the audio. Anyway - a very long way to say "THANK YOU!" You've got a great teaching style and even I was able to follow along.
What do I do if OBS is favouring one mic over the other? I have them both plugged in and the audio mixer is registering both but when I record, only one mic will record audio and the other records no sound at all as if it's muted. I've followed the video step by step all the way to the end before it goes into the Audacity part and this is the only issue Ive come across. This also seems to be the issue no matter what method I try or what mics I use. Either one mic will record and the other won't or they each will record only to one speaker or the other instead of both. I'm on a iMac so maybe its the computers issue?
Thank you so much brother, I have been searching all over the but finally I can put OBS to some more use. Cheers and I really appreciate your help. Have a good one brother.
Thanks for the info Kevin.. you always do a great job of explaining things :o) I think the more OBS advances, it will become a go to tool for all kinds of audio / video presentation.. it's an incredible tool for free
Hey Kevin, Recently I noticed your monitor on the background and it's the size I prefer, I do think the web cam comes with the monitor. I've been wanting a large monitor for ages now, and I'd like you do your PC review (Monitor, keyboard, mouse, speaker, mic and all it comes with) I hope you read my comment. Thanks, Your viewer 😉
Kevin, I'm a Mac user looking for a way to add better microphone input for hybrid ZOOM meetings. I want to use at least two Bluetooth microphones for the in-person group to record sounds in a larger conference room. I've seen tutorials for using two USB mics using the "Audio Midi Setup" included in MacOS 13.0 Utilities to create an aggregate device but I can't find information about doing this with Bluetooth mics to provide better room coverage for my hybrid meetings. I would be using the MacBook to host the ZOOM meeting. Any ideas?
I'm looking for a similar solution for a panel-conference session, 1 or more BT omni mic(s) for the panel and one BT handheld mic to pass around the audience. Different tracks are ok, but real-time, auto-leveling, echo/feedback filtering/removal, mixing would be better... plus Zoom or recording support.
Kevin, I have a friend struggling with her audio levels during video recording sessions. I watched your Audacity video and am curious if she can use it to manage her audio levels and mic checks. However, how would she add her screen capture with it in use? Or is there a better way to do this? Thank you in advance.
This video has been really really helpful with OBS. I have a problem I need your help finding a solution to. I'm using 2 Hyper X (same model) USB mics plugged into a 4 USB adaptor. Did all the settings you suggested in this video but it's only picking up audio from one of the mics. What should I do or try to fix this so both microphones work normally? Thanks!!
You need a video player that will let you change the audio track you want to listen to. Each mic will go into a different audio track. VLC lets you do that.
This was very helpful thank you. Now, is it better to have the microphone itself be at a higher gain or lower gain and about how far away should I be from the microphone?
It’s generally better to have the microphone set at a lower gain to avoid picking up background noise and distortion. A lower gain also allows you to avoid clipping when speaking loudly. You can compensate for the lower gain by speaking closer to the microphone, ensuring a clearer and more focused sound. Dynamic microphones (e.g., Shure SM7B): 2-6 inches from the mic is ideal, as they tend to have a lower sensitivity. Condenser microphones (e.g., Audio-Technica AT2020): 6-12 inches is a good range, as these mics are more sensitive and can pick up a lot of detail from further away. A good rule is to keep the mic at a distance where your voice sounds clear without picking up too much room noise. You can also use a pop filter to avoid plosive sounds (like “p” and “b” sounds) if you're closer to the mic.
it may be due to my cheap microphones, but their sound quality remains somewhat 'muffled'. It there any way that you, Kevin, know to improve microphone sensitivity for better voice quality? Whether by software or by affordable hardware?
Hey Galen - you can also check out Adobe Enhance. Upload your audio and it'll automatically enhance the quality using AI. podcast.adobe.com/enhance?ref=aitoptools
So what happens when one it appears that it isnt taking audio from one of your mics? My screen looks the exact same as yours, but only one mic showing that its working. The actual mic shows it should be working fine
Do you know if it is possible to record the audio from the AirPod Pro in OBS during a meeting on Zoom or Google Meet, both the audio from the headphones and the audio from the microphone? The problem is when I set to record my Mac system audio, the headphone audio will not be recorded
Great Video - Thank you - one question - how do I record my local microphone and the remote person's microphone via zoom or meet etc - and have two separate recordings?
exactly what i’m trying to do, would you be able to hear yourself talking when doing this? I wonder
ปีที่แล้ว +2
Hi Kevin, your video was exactly what I was looking for to test the recording quality of different mics. However even I have followed your instruction on a clean OBS environment, I don't get two separate tracks in Audacity 3.3. When I open the mp4 file via the menu or drop it into Audacity there's no prompt to select the audio tracks to import and theres always only one track and it seems that only the first mic is recorded. Any tip how to fix the problem would be appreciated.
Hopefully you see this! What is I only have one usb port on my laptop? Can I use one of those external ports that you use to plug in multiple usbs to one port? Would it still read them as separate mics or still only 1 bc it’s the one port?
are there settings in Audacity that I need to adjust becaause even though I followed each o fteh steps and set the recording device in Audacity to OBS, it doesnt pick up any sound frok either mic? I have two mics and each has a dedicated usb port. OSB picks up both but not in Audacity. Any idea what th eissue might be? I tried Voicemeter too and though Audacity woul drecord, the recording sounded like both voice were under water...
Hi Kevin, very helpful info. Thank you. Now then, if I might ask a question, can you advise if OBS will pick up four xlr mics from an interface with one and three panned left and 2 & 4 panned right? I keep seeing that Oba will recognize only two via interface such as Apollo or Scarlet. Any insight?
Thank you, this was so helpful! Do you know if there is a way to pick between which mic you hear while doing a live stream? I'm planning on recording two people with two USB mics on a live stream using OBS. Would I have to manually mute each mic when the other person isn't talking? (Wondering if there's any way to do this outside of getting a mixer)
There are USB splitters that have off/on switches on each port but I don't know how well they will work for audio, if at all, EG, Sabrent model HB-UM43 with 4-USB-A ports. As for mixers, good luck on finding an audio mixer with multiple USB inputs! They seem to all be XLR input mixers and are called a USB mixer because they have a USB output. Search for one and you'll see what I mean. I thought it would be simple to find a 4-channel USB mixer. Argh!
Can i use multiple mics through clipchamp in the same way? Or do i need to use an audio interface (eg podtrak) to attach 2/3 mics and then connect directly to clipchamp? Thanks
It depends on what you plan to record! Different microphones are suited for various purposes like vocals, podcasts, instruments, or video work. Here are some great microphone options depending on your needs: For Podcasts/Vocals: Shure SM7B: A popular dynamic mic known for its rich sound, great for podcasts and vocals. It handles various voice types well and rejects background noise. Audio-Technica AT2020: A more budget-friendly condenser mic, great for vocals, podcasts, and voice-overs. Its clarity and detail are excellent for home recording setups. Rode NT1-A: A condenser mic that's known for its extremely low noise and high sensitivity, ideal for vocals and podcasts if you’re in a quiet environment. For Instruments: Shure SM57: A versatile dynamic mic used for instruments like drums, guitars, and amps. It’s durable and reliable in many settings. AKG P170: A great condenser microphone for recording instruments like acoustic guitars, pianos, or drum overheads. For Streaming/TH-cam: Elgato Wave:3: A USB condenser mic, perfect for streamers and content creators, offering high-quality sound with easy plug-and-play functionality. Blue Yeti: Another popular USB mic for creators. It's flexible, with multiple pickup patterns (e.g., cardioid, omnidirectional), making it good for various recording needs like TH-cam videos or streaming. Choosing the right microphone depends on your recording space and intended use!
This video answered SO MANY of my questions. Love it, thank you! I'm running into a situation, though, where towards the end of a long recording (maybe 1-1.5 hours in) I start to get what I would describe as a delay or echo in some of the tracks. It gets progressively worse as the time moves on. Any thoughts?
Oh my goodness.. To have found this video is the best thing that happened to me today. I subscribed because of that. Thank you very much! Just one question though. Will that also work with two identical microphones, or do they have to be different like in this video?
Wow, such a great video and so easy to follow. One question, I was able to record and then hear my audio once dragged into an audio editor, however, that original OBS MP4 doesn't have any sound, it's only when I drag it over I can hear it - why is that?
Hello Kevin, thanks a lot for the video. I did exactly what you said, but when I have the microphones and select one different track for each (1 & 2 for instance), only the microphone selected for track 1 actually is recorded. If I select both on track 1, both microphones are recorded. Do you know how to solve this problem? If I leave it like this I have the record, but I cannot edit the single track of the 2 microphones, as they’re put together... Thanks if you can help!
This is a very simple solution but it's weird to use a video recording software in order to get control over multiple microphones. Is there not a way to do this with audacity to control the individual microphones. I have a couple of focusrite USB audio inputs and I want to split the left and right channels into their own recording channel. Your solution using OBS totally works but it seems like more steps than it should be to get multiple mics to record multiple tracks in audacity. Thanks for the solution but I wish it was possible to do that straight into audacity.
Hi Kevin, I found the issue. In the output advanced settings I only had ticked track 1. After I changed it to one and two I received the exact same result as you presented.
Hello, thank yo so much for your video, was a big help. When I played back the audio from OBS it sounded great, however, when I uploaded the file to Audacity, we sound like robots. What did I do wrong and do you know if I can fix it? Thank you
Hi Kevin thanks for this video. I was wondering, to record multiple USB Mics at the same time, do you need to use virtual audio cable plugins like Voicemeeter?
I'm considering doing exactly what you described in this great video, but I never have enough USB ports on my laptop. Can I plug in 3 USB mics with a simple USB Hub, a powered USB Hub or should I move up to a docking station? What would your recommendation be? If I do use any of those options, does OBS see just 1 mic that is the combination or can I adjust each mic individually? Thank you.
Question! I followed all your instructions, actually got OBS to work - but it sounds horrible! It's very tinny and I haven't seen a way to fix it. OBS seems like a viable option for my podcast otherwise - any suggestions?
I am trying to use two usb mics not to record separate tracks but one sound, I can't get my headset to hear both mics, but can get both to light up, I need this for lives, and using a android tablet
No matter the topic I search for on TH-cam, Kevin shows up. I will go search for "Best way to remove my own appendix" -- I'm sure Kevin will have a video :-)
Good evening Kavin, I am from India. I am your regular viewer. I so in many videos people can move right to left and some images also displayed there. How it possible? Please guide. Regards,

I use four mics with a USB hub through OBS. You can’t do five through OBS, though. I still haven’t found a great way to do five, but I’m searching.

Amazing video. So helpful. Also, thanks for being the only person do keep this sort of stuff up to date!
This shows me that I had all the right tools in front of me, the whole time!
When I saw the video title I knew there was something related to OBS. Very informative video! Surely gonna come handy.
you know it 😁
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I know it is a lot of work doing these videos, but we appreciate them very much!
Kevin sir, your all ways smart and thanking to your every single videos, I been waiting for 2023 good videos. Hope you soon
Thank you Kevin! This was a great video. Answered all of my questions. i really appreciate your work!!
Thank you soooo much for this whole video. You helped me so much with this and it worked perfectly!
Hi Kevin, I had to stop what I was doing to tell you thank you for evverything you have taught me. Also Merry Christmas!!!!
Thankyou man!! I’ve been looking for a video like this for months!!!
It's absolutely mind blowing that in 2023 DAWs don't let you do this, but OBS Studio does.
for real. i don't understand why NONE OF THEM have implemented it yet. how is this possible!?
Great video Kevin. Please record a video on OpenAI's ChatGPT. I would love to understand it better
Thanks bro.. It means alot. I have been searching the solution for hours. And finally your video solved it at all.
I swear I have spent hours looking for a solution to this.
Thank you so much 🙏
bro this video actually helped me so much. the way you explained it made it so easy to understand 🙌🏽🙌🏽

Found this video amidst alot of confusions and frustration, thanks for helping me out

I checked 4 other videos and this one was the best! ❤

Thank you much. This video has been very helpful as I begin learning to use these tools to record a podcast. I look forward to more information.
This was so informative and I learned so much!!!
Fantastic Video! Everything worked like a charm! Time to start the Podcast.
Great stuff Mr. Coolie! 🙂
Thanks for this awesome Tutorial! I love your tutorials!
Thanks for all the useful videos, you are a great teacher
When using MS Power Point to record video from computer screen how do you include sound from the video?
Hey Kevin,
Recently I noticed your monitor on the background and it's the size I prefer, I do think the web cam comes with the monitor. I've been wanting a large monitor for ages now, and I'd like you do your PC review (Monitor, keyboard, mouse, speaker, mic and all it comes with) I hope you read my comment.

All this sounds just fine, however, what to do when I don't want to record but want to send the audio to a live Zoom meeting?
Can you do real time monitoring with this method,, or is just for record only?
How to have only desktop shortcuts on only one desktop?
This was very helpful thank you Kevin. One question, if I use 6 microphones can I plug them into a multi usb pod?
Kevin, I have a friend struggling with her audio levels during video recording sessions.
I watched your Audacity video and am curious if she can use it to manage her audio levels and mic checks. However, how would she add her screen capture with it in use?
Or is there a better way to do this?

Good to hear from you, Ben! 👋
it may be due to my cheap microphones, but their sound quality remains somewhat 'muffled'. It there any way that you, Kevin, know to improve microphone sensitivity for better voice quality? Whether by software or by affordable hardware?
Hey! There is a mic output gain slider in OBS settings under Sources > + > Microphone Capture > Filters > Compressor. This worked for me.

This worked great! Thank you soooo much!!! OBS is awesome!
Do you know if it is possible to record the audio from the AirPod Pro in OBS during a meeting on Zoom or Google Meet, both the audio from the headphones and the audio from the microphone? The problem is when I set to record my Mac system audio, the headphone audio will not be recorded
If want the 2 audio input to go in a single channel , that means i need to select 1 and 1 for both input mics in OBS ??
Yes 👍
You are the best and everything is very clear
You just saved me like $100 THANK YOU
Thanks, amazing video!
0:00 - Hi KS. 9:56 - 244th like from me. Cheers.
Great Video - Thank you - one question - how do I record my local microphone and the remote person's microphone via zoom or meet etc - and have two separate recordings?
it looks like mine is working but then I record and the audio only seems to work for one mic. please help!!!
@Kevin Stravert
Exacty what I needed. Great work!
Ok so I can record a 3 person podcast with 3 usb mics without audio bleeding or any issues and without buying an audio interface?
exactly what i’m trying to do, would you be able to hear yourself talking when doing this? I wonder
Hi Kevin, your video was exactly what I was looking for to test the recording quality of different mics. I'm planning on recording two people with two USB mics on a live stream using OBS. Would I have to manually mute each mic when the other person isn't talking? I followed the steps correctly but yet it’s only capturing one mic even though obs is tracking both. Any way I can solve this problem?
After all of this editing does it save automatically?
Thank you for the info Kevin. PLEASE HELP: Do you have a 'how to for a beginner for creating my YTC BANNER???
Can i use multiple mics through clipchamp in the same way? Or do i need to use an audio interface (eg podtrak) to attach 2/3 mics and then connect directly to clipchamp?

AKG P170: A great condenser microphone for recording instruments like acoustic guitars, pianos, or drum overheads.
For Streaming/TH-cam:
Elgato Wave:3: A USB condenser mic, perfect for streamers and content creators, offering high-quality sound with easy plug-and-play functionality.
Blue Yeti: Another popular USB mic for creators. It's flexible, with multiple pickup patterns (e.g., cardioid, omnidirectional), making it good for various recording needs like TH-cam videos or streaming.
Choosing the right microphone depends on your recording space and intended use!
Please i need a video on OBS studio both recording and live streaming with lagging thanks
Do the two tracks get separately downloaded as MP4 files? Or is it just one file that Audacity then picks up?
it shows both mics working then once i record then play it back only 1 mic is heard any help?
Your player is likely only playing one of the audio tracks. When you bring into an app like Audacity, you should see all the tracks.
I cannot find out how to run an XLR mic and a USB mic through Reaper at the same time
Sir,can I install audacity software in i3 processor laptop for voice editing? from India
This video answered SO MANY of my questions. Love it, thank you! Can you do this method for running a xlr mic through interface & separate track for USB mic ?
Yep, works with a combo of xlr/audio interface and usb mics👍

Thank you for this!
Hi Kevin, I found the issue. In the output advanced settings I only had ticked track 1. After I changed it to one and two I received the exact same result as you presented.
Thanks for this, this really worked absolutely fine😊
Do you need more than one phantom power pack for more than one mic?
Hey kevin, when I try to drag the mp4 file into audacity it says that the data format is not supported, any suggestions?
He explained what to do.
Thank you.
I have the same question...
Great video!! How did you set up/configure zoom in and zoom out in this video? Thanks!
I use davinci resolve to edit and used zoom keyframes.
Audacity is one of the best softwares I've ever used. And now OBS will be the next one 🤣🔥
Thank you the info and video.. this help us so much
Can you recommend a mixer that can record 6 separate microphones into 6 different tracks?
You help me alottttt thank you so much
