KAGOSHIMA, JAPAN - Welcome to Kagoshima, a prefecture in the Kyushu Island of Japan that’s that’s synonymous with Kagoshima kurobuta - Japan’s premium and most delicious pork - this is the place to eat pork in Japan! Today we’re going on a kurobuta pork food tour, we’ll be eating fried tonkatsu, flash boiled shabu shabu, and an izakaya to end - that’s the plan, get ready for some life changing pork.
4 times tastier than normal pork - I read an article where they actually said Kagoshima kurobuta pigs were 4 times tastier than normal pigs - scientifically proven with their amino acids and makeup. I’m not sure how proven this is, but after tasting it, especially the shabu shabu, I have no reason to think otherwise.
Restaurant 1: Kurobuta: goo.gl/maps/6AvMaEq2dFDyHEgN9 - We first headed to Kurobuta restaurant to eat tonkatsu, or a fried pork cutlet, one of Japan’s most famous pork dishes. They had a regular and a black charcoal bread crumb version. Both were excellent and the pork was so juicy and flavorful.
Total price - 6,300 JPY for both tonkatsu
Restaurant 2: Shabu Shabu Ichiniisan: goo.gl/maps/81r77uiF8gzATNTy9
This was the greatest taste of kurobuta pork possible - shabu shabu - where nothing is covering up the natural taste of the pork. The pork was sliced extremely thin and gently blanched in soba noodle water before being dunked in a very pleasant sauce filled with leeks. It was the highlight of the day.
Total price - 7,300 JPY for everything
    Scene 4: Izakaya Tsuwabuki: goo.gl/maps/RNhuicGmuxh94AXY7
Finally to complete this Kagoshima pork tour we went to an evening izakaya to try a few more kurobuta pork dishes and a few drinks. It was a fantastic day of kurobuta pork in Kagoshima!
    Total price - 5,600 JPY

@Tao Tzu133 yep, I must admit how jealous I am of those tonkatsu dishes. But I can also be jealous of fried steak and eggs! 😅

I was born in Kagoshima and still live there. In other countries, Japanese cities such as Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka are famous, but Kagoshima is not so well known. However, Kagoshima is the prefecture with the second largest amount of food shipments in Japan. This means that there are many delicious foods and ingredients. It is also the prefecture with the second largest number of hot spring sources in Japan. We recommend visiting Kagoshima if you like good food and hot springs.

Don't get me wrong I love Trevor James (The Food Ranger) and Mikey Chen (Strictly Dumpling). But Mark has, in the last few months, Absolutely smashed it out of the park. The absolute respect he gives the food and traditions, as well as how detailed his explanations of flavors are is just absolutely inspiring. He respects not just the food as well, he is an exceptionally respectful guest in every video and shows how hospitality is a two way street.
From New Zealand I just wanted to say. Ka Pai (well done), Mark. Thank you for showing us the Aroha (love) that food and tradition deserves!

Surprisingly cheap for such premium pork. I can imagine how delicious it is just by looking at the meat texture.

Fine crisp crunch of the greens with the thin fatty pork strips, my mouth is watering! I want some now, so perfect for a cold wet day!

Japanese chefs are awesome! Every flavour, every detail are just perfect! These are the Samurais of the Cuisine! My native language is spanish, but I´m bilingual, althouth sometimes I prefer to write directly in spanish, because many words escape from my knowlegde. Anyway you allways surprise me and I´m very gratefull for that. Your videos are a breeze of full life, something we all want and need for everyday life. Thank you very much indeed. Todo muy bonito!
