    HOLY COW!!! Great video and great commentary on how to install. Any reason why you tapped into the A/C fuse for it to go on and not into another fuse?

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks very much for the comment! I'm not sure I quite understand your question. I tapped into the AC compressor to have the fan turn on when the AC is turned on. The fuse tap was to get power to the module when the ignition is turned on.

      I did this too and with the alternator fuse. The ac fuse will be destined to cause your car to overheat sometimes. But the alternator will too but only in drive thrus or at idle. I’m going to try my shot at avoiding this by buying a manual switch override instead

    I did this conversion on my 08' and I'm very happy with the results. Offroading in AZ desert is brutal on my work truck and this has helped a lot. The mpg is just a plus. Thanks for the video and inspiration.

    This is an eye opener. I recently put a superchip on my 02 1500 ram. Programmed it for performance and have to run premium fuel. I was getting 14mpg on average on the freeway at 65mph. And now it's 17mpg. With just a tune. I'm strictly running 91 ethanol free now, which isn't "cheap" normally. But it washington state the difference between 91e-free compared to 87 ethanal is $7 if I fill up entirely. So it's not really an "extra" expense out here.
    I'm not going with a flex-a-lite fan as I sourced a dual electric fan from a friend that wouldn't comply with their hyundai's computer. So I figure with a little fab work and a simple wiring kit it'll work just fine with a thermostat sensor and toggle.
    Another thing to note is that those clutch fans actually impact the crank horsepower, too. It's not a huge surprise, but that mileage increase is stunning.
    Great coverage on the subject.

      Thanks for that input. I did an electric fan conversion on my 2002 F150 along with an underdrive pulley set and it totally changed the highway characteristics of the truck. Runs hard at any speed and better fuel economy, and as you noted, better power. Those clutch fans supposedly pull 15 horsepower in parasitic losses from the engine.

      @DrivingIntelligence That's around thr same as the 5.9 magnum. Supposedly 15-20hp lost. I forgot to mention mine I'd the magnum, too. Which are notorious for eating gas.

    I turned around and watched your video. I ordered this kit. They fixed that problem with the reservoir not having that L bracket they made an L bracket into that top bracket. I appreciate you doing everything you do to make it easier on us out here that know what we’re doing but yet don’t know.whot to do thanks again

    Incredible.. ROI of just a little over 1 year...
    Next to driving changing driving habits.. the seems like the best bang for your buck in mpg improvements...
    If I missed it in the video...did throttle response also improve???

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I did mention it briefly at the end, over-all performance is better and there is improvement in throttle response. Pretty impressive conversion.

    Thank you for taking the time to make these video. I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.9. Will this Flex-A-Lite work on my truck?

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      appreciate the comment! There is a kit for your truck if the 5.9 is a diesel: flex-a-lite.com/direct-fit-dual-electric-fans-for-1994-2002-dodge-ram-diesel.html I've no experience with this install.

    I think I would go with some kind of OE e fan. Have seen too many videos of the spal hayden, and even flexalite fans taking a dump, not to mention the controllers are not very robust and die from vibration, have seen that one myself, on a 1999 Chevy truck bopping around in the desert.

  • @williamwhite9767
    @williamwhite9767 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I presume the fuel economy test was performed with the AC off which prevented the fans from running? Ideally, electric fans should not run when a vehicle is on the road going fast enough for the fans to not be needed.

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Good clarification. AC was not running.

    • @nick.100
      @nick.100 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That doesn’t mean I cant run ac with this installed right?

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The kit is designed to activate when you turn your AC on and work more efficiently than the OEM clutch fan. His question had to do with the AC activating the electric fan, impacting fuel economy because of a draw on the alternator. The simple answer to this question is that it won’t have much of an impact.

    • @DrivingIntelligence

      I just did a waterpump and thermostat change on my 08 ram 1500, it runs 1/4 inch below the middle mark on the coolant temp gauge. Where as before it was just a smidge under half way mark.

    • @DrivingIntelligence

      In principle, this will work with any vehicle, but specific to your Durango, I don't see a kit that is designed for your truck from Flex-A-Lite. Does your engine bay look similar to the RAM in my video?
