Thanks for your videos on the fan delete on Ram 1500. I did it on my 2013 Ram 1500 4x4 5.7. I found out a few things I would like to share with anyone doing it. You can get plug pigtails that hook directly to the fan and factory harness so you could wire it anyway you want without hacking OEM harnesses. 2003 to 2005 Ford Vic fan plugs (Salvage yard find) are the same as the 2013 Ram. The Ram water pump has a plug on it that can be removed for adding another coolant sensor of your choice.
This is totally worth doing. I run a canned tune and I was concerned about not having an accurate tune. My truck runs cooler I get better mpg and it's def happily I did. No tune
I have a 2004 Dodge ram 1500 hemi Rumble Bee edition that engineering is better version than today’s Ram, they are separated, so what I did is the same as the video and it works for me , my ram is about to turn to 300,000 miles and still running pretty good 👍🏻.
I installed the v6 electric fan on my 2011 shortly after seeing your original video . My bully dog programer doesn’t have setting for turning on /off electric fan , so what I did is use a flex a lite fan control module, and bypassed the stock electric fan connection plug all together . That with a 190 thermostat the set up works flawlessly .
That clears up a lot for me. I'm buying a 2014 ram so this is very helpful. What i will do is go with a tuner, 160 stat, V6 fan, and that will allow me to double or triple the radiator size (whatever I can get to fit in Texas with weather now going to 115, you can't get too big on a radiator) , making up for less airflow. I will also install fans in front of a/c condenser for more airflow and ice cold a/c. We tow in 100 degree weather and I want real performance.
Over the years I have ran both 160 and 180 stats and the 160 stat is always superior. Vehicle retains the same compression at 30,000 miles as at 200,000 miles. Seriously. I ran a 180 stat in a 2006 durango and did drive it to 175,000 miles, but it was smoking oil, had to add oil between oil changes, using excess fuel, basically it needed overhauled. I went back to 160's. Remember, you have to also beef up the cooling system since if you dont it might run 170 all winter and 230 all summer. Also, "its in the middle of the gauge between the C and H so its ok right?" No its not. Thats about 230 on most stock vehicles, way too hot for me.
For the Ram 1500 it's the above: 2 16" spal fans for front of a/c condenser, manual switch to operate on the dash, also wizard cooling in NY makes my all aluminum radiators. When I get my ram I'll remove the clutch fan and measure carefully how much thicker i can go with the new one, and tell WC. then you send them your old radiator so they can copy it while building to my specs. I can't wait to see how it performs should be much better than stock.
2016 Ram 2500 PW, I removed the mechanical fan tonight and took a run up to the ski hill to around 8000ft. going slow holding 4200 rpm to simulate a trailer. And without a trailer I almost over heated got up to 245 it cooled off quickly once I turned around and got air flowing. I ordered a V6 fan last week, and will give it a try again once it's here, I am hopeful it will perform better, a little worried for pulling the camper. I will try a cooler thermostat and maybe look into trying to add a electricly actuated mechanical fan like the cummins. If this doesn't work.
I had an electric fan in an 05 ram hemi and yes it gave me like 10 horsepower and it gained about 5mpg. Its definitely a real performance upgrade. No snake oil on that one.
You can also remove one of the fan relays for a temporary cooling. When removing one of the fan relays the ecu detects an open circuit therefore keeps the fan running on. Yea it will kick on on cold starts but at least you won't have to see your temp gauge go up and down all the time. The fan will start all the time keeping the temp at at least 200° when fully warmed up. And yes you will get a check engine light.
Maybe because he used to race with this truck. Let's not forget that he mentioned in the previous video that using the v6 electric fan is only good for normal driving and not for towing and other strenuous operations.
My electric fan died on my bone stock 2013 Ram 2500 5.7. I ended up installing a V6 fan but also kept my clutch fan. Sounds silly but it fits just fine. I had to extend the wiring harness about 6-8 inches. I used the old fans wiring to make the extension. I also run a 180 mishimoto thermostat.
@@nickvernillo439 Stock tune, Coolant temps are at 185 with a Mishimoto 180 T-stat (179). I don’t tow much but I still have the clutch fan but its too loose and needs to be replaced. Fan clutch was next on my list to do if the efan did not get the temps down.
I did the swap this week and it’s so much better. I extended the wires so the resistor could stay in the shroud and just wrapped them up with wire loom and tape. Total investment was $108 with the Dorman fan.
Locktite the fan screw!!! before install this fan lasted exactly 12 months untill the motor broke the other day on a long trip . An amazon review states that the screw holding on the fanblade comes loose over time and he advises to use blue loctite on that screw before installing. Im assuming this was the same issue with my fan as the blade feels loose and the motor is definitely shot. The motor most likely failed due to the loose fan wobling all over the place.
I bought my 2017 Laramie Classic (Loaded) brand new and never knew that it had an electric fan until this year (2023, I never heard it turn on) when I was troubleshooting an overheating issue on my 8HP70. The trans overheating was due to the malfunctioning of the Trans Heater. Once I replaced that I began to search out why my fan never came on. The 60A fuse looked good so I checked the relay and the plug. It wasn't getting power. I went thru all of the schematics and discovered that the 10A fuse had no power with the ignition on and the schematic indicated that it should. I discovered that the Run Start relay would not send power to it unless the engine was running. when the engine was running the fan relay had power on both the energizing circuit and the fan run circuit. I returned to the 60A fuse and pulled it to run an ohms check, it was defective. Replaced the 60A fuse and all is good. Even though I had not been over heating, everything is running cooler that before.
I was considering it. But as a mechanic for 30 years. I kinda think it is better to have one to back up the other. If electric fan quits you still have the mechanical to cool engine. So you are not stranded.
How would you have enough room for that in the engine bay? We have an 07’ 1500 and I don’t see there being enough room for both (I don’t have much mechanical experience)
Awesome info ! Doing this to my wifes 2012 Ram 1500 . Just did a Hemifever BullyDog Tuner and BD Pedal Tuner . She loves it and will love it even more when I put the fan on.
Some newer Rams have active grill shutters from what I have found the temp they open can not be adjusted even with a tuner like the electric fan . There are vids on this issue with options on how to deal with these . My 2012 to my surprise does not have the grill shutters simply making things easier . There is no use in getting a tune all you can tune in the Diablo Sport i3 is AC fan setting's ON, or AC fan settings off, that's it there is no tune for heat setting on or of don't get sucked in.
I have a 2010 Ram 1500 5.7 and I never seen my coolant temp guage needle right in the center. It's usually quarter way up, even when it's close to 30°C (86°F) outside. So with that being said, I'm going to remove the mechanical factory fan and just run the small electric one.
For those who are concerned that the truck will overheat / will run hotter. The facts: The fan is only there to provide cooling during low speed or when stopped (idling). Above 40mph, temperature is entirely regulated by the thermostat (if you don't believe me pull your thermostat entirely and see if the engine warms up going down the highway with the fan disabled). If you are in stop and go conditions without a tune yes engine and trans temps will be higher. The factory E fan on temp setting is 223F. Though this can be overridden by AC pressures when your AC is on. A solution for those not interested in a tune to turn the fan on at a lower temp. You could wire a manual switch to the efan and turn it on when you desire. This would cost you around $20 instead of around $400 - 600 for a tuner. For those going the tuner route pay attention to the High Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) fan settings. It is not desirable to run a fan at highway speeds (40+MPH). At these speeds, running your fan is actually restricting flow and putting strain on your fan motor.
For clarification for some who aren't aware...the "stock" e-fan on the gen4 Hemi is the cooling fan for the a/c condenser core. It is not meant to (and will not) handle the heat load of the engine coolant. It is for the a/c condenser only! DO NOT remove the mechanical fan and only run on the stock e-fan for the V-8. Those two fans are designed to work in tandem. The e-fan from the V-6 '09-'12 gen4 truck takes the place of both of the previously mentioned fans, and works fabulously! For the new "V-6 fan"...the fan on/off is controlled by the a/c switch. A/C on = fan on. A/C off = fan off. And that works fine, as long as you understand those limitations. The only way to set on/off of the e-fan to be temperature-controlled is to use a tuner like a Diablo, and set the temp. Most users swap the t-stat to a 180°F unit, and set the fan on/off around that same temp. Most users see operating temps average around 195°F.
Hey man I just replaced my water pump (oem mopar) then after I'm done I noticed my fan was loud as heck when I took off up until like 3rd gear. So I just replaced my fan clutch. And it still is kinda loud. It wasn't like that before. It's driving me nuts.
Just to clarify... If you have a NEWER year V8 truck you want to order the OLDER V6 fan for it because the NEWER Truck has the same connector as the OLDER V6 fan?
@@BoostedMotorsports not trying to be rude. what am I missing? I literally just checked my truck. I have the dorman 410 fan installed that you have linked here but I had to create a small wiring harness to make it work because the plugs didnt match up. 2 pin versus 3 pin. Happy to supply photos. I'm actually trying to replace the fan because it is off balance and the blades strike the housing. Just wanting to make sure I get the correct part and OEM is discontinued.
I have a 14 ram 1500 and I did the efan swap with the v6 efan from a 2010... no tune (and I don't want to get one) and the thermostat is stock... temp gets to 220 and the fan comes on and drops it down to around 200... but my problem now is the when sitting at idle the truck will begin to almost stall and rev back up and then almost stall again and continue this cycle... any insights on what's causing this? I also have the vararam air intake but I had this installed before the fan swap and the truck ran fine. thanks for any info you may have!
What tuner works best for editing the fan temp parameters and setting it for fuel economy. 2010 TRX4 5.7. I want to set the low fan speed to 189 and the High fan speed at 195. I then want to set my hemi to get 16mph period.
Hello just had my Engine light come on it says the grill shutters and just noticed truck truck running hotter. Does this have anything to do with the electric fan not coming on unless I turn ac on? 2019 ram thanks
What’s the part number on that v6 fan I looked on rock auto and there’s a few for the 2012 with the 3.7 L v6 but some say they have the three wire plug instead of the two...
Is there a reason that the fan may start to run hard from a morning start. Runs loud 1st to 2nd and makes it shift hard too.. I replaced the fan clutch already and still doing the same thing..
Is it worth removing the e fan and srock mechanical fan for the v6 fan or is it better to keep stock setup with mechanical fan to keep temps cool tryna find out if it is worth going to v6 fan instead of the e fan and mechanical fan but im worried about temps and towing etc
So I wouldn’t need a tuner if I want to change to the efan that you have. I’ve been looking it up in There’s lot of people that say I do in don’t. Cause at the moment a tuner is out my Budget.
So I put an efan on my 2012 ram 1500 and put a 180 thermostat I also have a tuner on it but my fan won't shut off... my temperature goes as low as 185 but efan still running tia
You did mention something about the Locked PCM “if you have 2015 and up” (9:26) what do you mean by that? Because I’m trying to get a tuner maybe Diablo sport tuner but I did over head that I might need an unlocked PCM I have a 2009
@BoostedMotorsports or anyone that knows .. I did the fan swap (no tune) months ago and definitely noticed mpg gains (3+mpg) and throttle response. But now it's hot and humid and my a/c is struggling. I thought it needed a charge but it was right where it needed to be when I bought the refill kit. I just purchased a tuner. Will that help blow cooler air? Or should I change out the thermostat? If so, what degree stat should I change it out to? 190? Thanks in advance ..
Is there a difference in the 6.4 hemi With putting the fan in. My truck is a 2018 ram 2500 with a 6.4 hemi. And I would really like to do the upgrade..
Hello so what if I did the efan conversion along with the active grille shutter delete to allow the air flow to keep it cooler would that work better ??

BoostedMotorsports I have a 2012 ram 1500. Will the e fan work on my truck? This sounds like a good upgrade I want put it on mine. And do I need a tuner after I install the e fan?
I watched this video 3 days ago. I'm waiting for my v6 fan to come. I tried driving on the e fan. I'm making the comment from the parking lot of a fire station because my truck is over heating. From only the a/c fan. Thanks

I've got an 02 with the 5.9 and just had my SECOND clutch fan fail on me and this time it was within a few weeks of installing the new one. So i'm definitely wanting an electric conversion. Saw you building a 5.9 an wondered if which brand I should be looking at.
Hey brother Great videos as always! Question... I have a 2018 ram limited and want to remove the mechanical fan... my question is... where would you go to get the pcm unlocked? I would consider getting the tuner as I also want to program the mds system to be off all the time.... its such a pain to do it thorough the transmission + and - buttons every time... ... I baught a v8 and want to keep it a v8... Thanks again for the great videos!
Sorry for the late question but, i got confused about the towing aspect you mentioned it wouldn't be efficient... Leaving the stock electric fan only?... Or using the v6 electric fan? I have mods and stuff so i have the tuner thats no prob but i do tow heavy and live on 95+ degree so i just want to be sure this v6 e-fan would be worth the shot. TIA
You should be fine with the V6 fan and a tuner. Only thing I was saying is how some people just remove the mechanical fan and use the stock electric fan to cool which would work but might not be adequate for towing due to not having a sealed fan shroud and being slightly smaller than the V6 fan.
Hi I love your contents a lot specifically that hellcat swap can't wait for you to do the first start-up. So I have a question about the fan swap the one that you listed when I put it on Amazon it automatically told me doesn't fit my truck which is still good right cause it for a v6 2006-2012 right i have a 2018 big horn 1500 4x4

Most users swap the t-stat to a 180°F unit, and set the fan on/off around that same temp. Most users see operating temps average around 195°F.
Can the dealer make those adjustments to the ecu? Trying to not void my warranty.
Hey man I just replaced my water pump (oem mopar) then after I'm done I noticed my fan was loud as heck when I took off up until like 3rd gear. So I just replaced my fan clutch. And it still is kinda loud. It wasn't like that before. It's driving me nuts.
Im doing this swap to my truck and im trying to figure out witch diablo tuner will have the capability of changing the fan kick on temp. Please help
Did you get it to work? I’m asking because I’m in the Same situation
Just to clarify... If you have a NEWER year V8 truck you want to order the OLDER V6 fan for it because the NEWER Truck has the same connector as the OLDER V6 fan?
Correct. Link is in the description for the v6 fan you want to order 💪
@@BoostedMotorsports its actually not. Visit the link. It references a fan plug with 3 pins. The 4th gen V8 Rams only have two pins.
@@michaelscofield2730 you have much to learn bud but do as you please
@@BoostedMotorsports not trying to be rude. what am I missing? I literally just checked my truck. I have the dorman 410 fan installed that you have linked here but I had to create a small wiring harness to make it work because the plugs didnt match up. 2 pin versus 3 pin. Happy to supply photos. I'm actually trying to replace the fan because it is off balance and the blades strike the housing. Just wanting to make sure I get the correct part and OEM is discontinued.
You should also install a 180 degree thermostat if you just remove the mechanical fan.
Why? Please explain
I have a 2019 ram 1500 bighorn classic i heard those are basically the 4th gen ram just updated would my 2019 still have the mechanical fan ?
Can alfaobd be used right adjust the temperature settings?
You could also go to a 180 or 190 thermostat to aid in cooling. I would prefer 190, but to each there own it is your truck at the end of the day.
Why did you take all your mods off?
I have a 14 ram 1500 and I did the efan swap with the v6 efan from a 2010... no tune (and I don't want to get one) and the thermostat is stock... temp gets to 220 and the fan comes on and drops it down to around 200... but my problem now is the when sitting at idle the truck will begin to almost stall and rev back up and then almost stall again and continue this cycle... any insights on what's causing this? I also have the vararam air intake but I had this installed before the fan swap and the truck ran fine. thanks for any info you may have!
Did yoy figure out the problem ?
I have a 2016 5.7 ram. If i change the intake to the k and n cold air, and change the muffler to a magnaflow, do i need to get it tuned?
Nope you can just install those. You would benefit more from a tune but it will run just fine
Thank you
You will not need a tuner with these simple bolt on mods.
Can you do this with the new models
I have a 2017 ram 1500 5.7l and jjst want to know if the temps get better with the efan v6 vs the stock fual mechanical and efan
Thank you. This is the most informative video I have found, and the only one that actually answered my question. I appreciate it.

Can I still do the same change out even though I have a 4.7l?
I just ordered the pulsar for my 15 and the cts 3 display. Can I use that or alfa obd to adjust thebfan on temp? Thanks.
I have a 2013 ram with the 5.7 what is the part number for the fan
Why did you decide to put the clutch fan back on
Can this application be done for a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 SLT?
Is it worth removing the e fan and srock mechanical fan for the v6 fan or is it better to keep stock setup with mechanical fan to keep temps cool tryna find out if it is worth going to v6 fan instead of the e fan and mechanical fan but im worried about temps and towing etc
why did you went back to stock on the fans
What specific fuse controls the electric condenser fan you mentioned? I need to check the fuse and relay before buying a new one
I like all of your videos on the Ram (I own one). My question is why did you change it back to stock?
He ended up trading it in boss so he put it back stock
So I wouldn’t need a tuner if I want to change to the efan that you have. I’ve been looking it up in There’s lot of people that say I do in don’t. Cause at the moment a tuner is out my Budget.
Without a tune fan will come on at 220* or when you turn the ac on instead of around 195-205
So I put an efan on my 2012 ram 1500 and put a 180 thermostat I also have a tuner on it but my fan won't shut off... my temperature goes as low as 185 but efan still running tia
You did mention something about the Locked PCM “if you have 2015 and up” (9:26)
what do you mean by that?
My truck is a 2018 ram 2500 with a
6.4 hemi. And I would really like to do the upgrade..
Why did you remove the V6 fan and put it back to stock?
Cause he sold it.
He sold the truck
At what temps should the Efans be adjusted to on HP Tuners??
Hello so what if I did the efan conversion along with the active grille shutter delete to allow the air flow to keep it cooler would that work better ??
My electric fan is staying on constantly what can I do to fix it
Will this fan fit my 2016 dodge ram 1500 sport crew cab 4x4
What is the OEM P/N needed for efan?
Can I do this on a dodge 2013 pickup, yes or no.
would i able to do the same thing on my 2015 ram 2500?
Hello, did you install a Dorman Fan or a MOPAR Fan? The link under the video takes me to a Dorman Fan. If you install a Dorman, how is the quality of the fan so far?
Is AlfaOBD capable of changing the temp of when the fan kicks on?
You figure this out?
Brother I got the same truck. Where can I find some wheels like that?
when removing mechanical fan and trying just stock efan, should i remove the shroud or leave it in?
I would leave the shroud just to try and channel some of the air a little better at least but probably won’t make a big difference
Thanks
There is no use in getting a tune all you can tune in the Diablo Sport i3 is AC fan setting's ON, or AC fan settings off, that's it there is no tune for heat setting on or of don't get sucked in.
What tuner should I use for a 2017 ram
Great video I’m thinking to put this fan on my Dodge Ram van which is my conversion home, maybe you’ll have an advice for me is a 2000 Dodge Ram van v8 5.9 I’m always trying to make it efficient gas mileage wise, thanks again for your video
Is there enough room to run the V6 fan along with the mechanical stock fan
Yes more then enough
What’s the point? The v6 fan eliminates the mechanical fan which reduces parasitic loss
nice recap on the electric fan. looking at the fan delete late summer..
Thanks for answering those questions many of us have. Great straight to the point video, keepem coming!
How does that effect the grill shutters.
I've got an 02 with the 5.9 and just had my SECOND clutch fan fail on me and this time it was within a few weeks of installing the new one. So i'm definitely wanting an electric conversion. Saw you building a 5.9 an wondered if which brand I should be looking at.
I have a 2005 1500 Daytona is this a option with that?
There’s no stock drop in solution but flex a lite makes one for the 3rd gen trucks 👍
Would you recommend it for towing?
Can u do this to a 2019 ram2500 6.4
What’s your opinion on Pulsar? Cams? And cold air intake
So you saying you removed a v8 stock fan for a v6 stock fan? Just clarifying
Hey brother
Great videos as always!
Did you ever do this? I got my Diablo Trinity 2 tuner with PCM swap I think from Moes Performance and had Jay Greene tune it
Quick question what kind of tuner would you use to have the fan kick on earlier... I have a 2013 1500
What's a good fan for a 2008 ram? 5.7. spal good or should I use this e fan??? Ty
What keeps the pulley behind it on once u remove the clutch fan/bolt?
the pulley is part of your water pump
@@BoostedMotorsports thanks for the response and advice.
@BoostedMotorsports Confirmed at least with a 6.4 2500 stock fan will heat up under very light load, is fine around town.
At what threshold did you set it at ? (Program)
Hmm what if I got the 160 thermostat?
So if your AC is broke the e-fan will not work, due to it being an AC fan primarily and not a cooling fan.
How would I do this with a 2003 4.7
Can you Alfaobd the temp level. Or a 180 thromstat
My plug has two prongs on the connector, the v6 fan has three does it matter , should it still connect?
