  • www.massagebyhe... - A quick self-massage technique to use on scars - especially surgical scars or deep scars that are causing issues with range of motion and flexibility. In this video you will learn how to work on surgical scars, or really any kind of adhesion, to open up the area to increase blood flow, range of motion, flexibility and sometimes even sensation. Please consult with your surgeon before using these techniques on yourself, especially if you've had surgery recently.

Props to this therapist for trying to go a little further into how scarring occurs. Many "experts" tend to shy away from explaining it, either due to a lack of actual expertise or a lack of comfort with articulating it.
Even if you're not a complete authority on a subject, it's important to challenge yourself in order to grow and develop (as long as you don't misinform anyone!). Well done :)

That was just the info I needed. I am 3 months post op after total knee replacement, I'm done with therapy and I had my last checkup with the surgeon for now. This is the clearest information I have been given re: working with my scar tissue. Thank You!

Thanks for the video. Could you do a time-lapse video, apanning several treatment sessions, showing how the scar gradually disappears over time?

I donated a portion of my liver. 4 weeks after donating my chiropractor was challenging me to stretch as much as humanly possible after that kind of a surgery. It was very scary and uncomfortable. It was all to prevent scarring. Worked great. I've had no issues. Other donors spoke of massaging. I donated 4 years ago and I have no issues, but I'm going to try this.

Thank you Heather. You are a jewel! I am afflicted with arthrofibrosis in my post-surgical knee TKR 7+ years ago. My flexion is only 65 in that operative knee. I think your massage techniques are helping me dissipate this tissue and lessen my pain. I have passed your video onto many others with my problems.

Wow. This is a really helpful video. My dog had knee surgery 2 weeks ago and had his stitches removed today. I thought before the sutures were removed that his skin was "holding/adhering" due to a suture placed too deep. Anyway, I'll definitely be using these techniques. Thank you very much for the information!

Just did this on an old botched surgery chin facial adhesion and can tell a difference. It has been over 4 yrs and the skin was flat due to improper stitching and had a "dent" on the side of my chin.Had an injection in the area to plump it out and it did not work. Can tell a difference just by doing this technique already.

This may help some but overall no, your issue would include tendon shortening and adhesions with the tendon/fascia and possible muscle scarring, you would need to see a physiotherapist to resolve

Ashton McMullen i had forgotten about my comment on this video :)
i did do this with a burn that was both 2nd & 3rd degree, and indeed it does work.. applying this technique actually helped it stop having this incessant pain, and the scar lightened as well, i need to continue doing this on a regular basis and see if the scar will continue to lighten :D

I had knee replacement 4mo ago, been thru 2 sessions of therapy but have not been able to get past 90 degrees, no problem with straightening. Knee is structurally sound, no pain, just really tight. don't know why therapist did not address this problem with me, they had to know it wasn't progressing, suppose they knew doc would resort to "manipulation", a medieval technique resulting in more pain, more therapy, more expense. And, not always successful, so more manipulation! Your technique seems rather tame, like something you would get at a "spa". By very nature of scar tissue formation, which you describe, and from my experience with therapy, it seems like more aggressive measures, short of torture, should be available. So, after my continued efforts in gym with no improvement, I'm asking you to comment on the idea of using an industrial strength vibrator massage unit. What say You?
