  • www.massagebyheather.com Learn Lymph Drainage Massage to affect the legs. This video (the third in a series that includes abdominal massage) shows the specific method of massage to reduce fluid and swelling in the leg, calf and foot. Before performing this, you MUST prepare by performing the Lymphatic Drainage Massage for the Abdomen Parts one and two. Fluid in the legs moves up into the torso and drains near the venous angle in the neck. Unless you have prepared by performing the Abdominal Massage routines, the fluid will not drain correctly. Contraindications include pregnancy (Lymphatic breathing is excellent, but don't do part 2 of this video series). Other contraindications for Lymphatic Drainage Massage work in general are as follows:
    1. Fever, acute infection, early onset inflammatory disease. You need to wait until the acute phase is over and the fever is broken.
    2. Circulatory system problems, especially thrombosis. If there is any risk of embolism of phlebitis, do not use LDM and see your physician immediately
    3. Cardiac issues such as heart disease, acute angina pectoris or coronary thrombosis (heart attack). Using LDM increases the fluid load on the heart, and compromised cardiac systems should not be subjected to LDM.
    4. Active bleeding, internal or external.
    5. Active malignant cancers, undiagnosed lumps, or tumors whose origins have not been determined by your physician.
    6. High risk pregnancy or late term pregnancy with complications

    Oh my gosh, this really works. Thank you with all my heart for these wonderful videos. My left left leg has been swollen for over 6 mo. Its so bad that I have 10 huge, open, draining ugly wounds. They wouldnt go away. I have been miserable until today. I did the massage and fell asleep. I woke up and the swelling is down. You are an angel.

    Thanks! I have a leg recently broken and often very swollen and achey (partly because of long-ago-removed varicose veins - reducing circulation). When trying this while watching the vid I noticed almost immediate relief from the aching pressure. I'll try doing this more from now on. For weeks I've been taking a gram of paracetamol every four hours day and night, but still getting a fair bit of discomfort. This massage may improve my quality of life considerably. This is great Heather. I do the Yoga breathing exercises regularly. Recently, my lymphedema of the leg just returned but to the opposite leg (right) after 15 years of recovery of the left. Is this common. Your instructions are very clear and I am doing it now. Thank you Heather. I am about to undergo LD treatment at the Rusk Institute at NYU New York to get a relief. LD therapy works as my oncologist told me lymphedema was incurable. LD cured my left leg.

    I have swollen lymph nodes on the joint just above my thighs. The discomfort which started from there extends to my stomach and back. It is very frustrating knowing that my swollen lymph nodes growing bigger by the days. After trying these steps, I feel so much better now with still very slight discomfort. I will do these steps every day hoping one day my lymph nodes still swelling anymore. Thanks Heather!

    @PalmyBruce Bruce - I'm glad this has helped! Given the vericose vein removal, this may be something you'll need to do regularly to ease the aching and pressure. Using this regularly may control this to the point that you won't have so much discomfort. thanks for your comment!

    Very good video! as a MT, I would like to know what you would suggest for auto-massage for someone with lymphoedema in the arm (after mastectomy and removal of axillary lymph nodes)... I've watched many videos and people are trying to bring the lymph from left arm to right axillary lymph nodes through the sternum (anatomically, that makes absolutely no sense! and unfortunately I've seen many videos like this). What would be your suggestion?

    I'm on 80mgs of Lasix TID with congestive heart failure. My left leg especially, from about mid shin down, swells so bad from fluid that sometimes I can't even wear shoes, and it stretches out my skin so much that on top of having neuropathy, is BEYOND just painful. Is this technique safe to do for me with all that going on? I'm desperate for some relief and NONE of my Dr's seem to want to do anything except give me more pills, which I'm sick and tired of! Thanks for any advice!! *Edit* Nevermind. I just noticed it's been FOUR YEARS since you replied to anybody, so don't bother. I'll just stop all my meds and die slowly, and thanks from all the other people who've asked questions and got no response.

    • @itsbevinallison
      @itsbevinallison 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I thought I'd answer this. Not sure if you'll see it as it's been awhile but from everything I've read if your in congestive heart failure you r not supposed to do lymph drainage as it is a lot of extra work for the heart having so much fluid at once entering ur system. You can Google more info about it if you need it or find a cdt certified therapist, they r trained for lymph message in various situations, and ask them specifically about this to learn more. ❤️
