Spent many childhood holidays at Walton, the pier used to have a small railway going along it, and in the central car park was a large market, I often remember the High Street being thronged with people. Sadly many places I remember have gone, and even the wonderful seafront streetlights with their colourful light displays are now just plain old metal ones. That Martello Tower used to be a bar in the centre of a holiday park. And who remembers the Naze Cash & Carry store? It seems to be huge to a kid in the 70s...
My Nan Used To Live Here (she passed away a while ago) so I got some very happy memoirs of Walton on the Naze & it will always hold a special part in my heart
I've been going there ever since I was a baby and the place is absolutely gorgeous I can never get enough my spiritual home deffo would love to live there one day
We had a caravan on the Naze Marine site in 70s. There weren’t so many beach huts then and we spent many hours on the beach. Walton has changed a lot since those days, for instance the Naze tower had not been renovated and there was no access to it. your walk still brought back many memories. Thank you.
Can’t beat exploring the coast me and my fiancée Kate used to go to Cornwall once every year as it was her favourite place to go and we’d just walk and explore much like you do in your videos Kate allways loved climbing rocks round the sea front getting to places people really should be at haha just to see what was there and how far we could go ❤️ Sadly she passed away suddenly back in July 2019 just 3 weeks after our last trip to Cornwall together :( we had 7 amazing years together :) and I’ll allways remember the time we spent together, Kate had never been to Cornwall before the first time I took her there and she instantly fell in love with the place I would love to see you do some videos there if it’s possible
The pier has been revamped maybe you could revisit at some point for comparison. The sea looked great I must say. Got me wishing for warmer days. Thanks Tim another great vlog.
i too have never seen so many beach huts. incredible. A lovely place by the looks. i cant get over you had 35c temp (2 years ago) - thats equal to OUR summers. HOT !
What a lovely place. Never seen so many beach huts- lovely that they are on tiers so the beach and sea can be seen from all of them. Really interesting video, many thanks 😁

Where the Martello Tower is used to be a Caravan Park. I stayed there with my parents a couple of times in the early 70's..... Actually ended up living in Thorpe-le Soken and going to school in Frinton. Was called Gunfleet School back then. Fantastic school!
Walton looks great...including the pier..lots to do. Thanks for a lovely vid. Wish you show more places to eat and town centres in your videos as well. Cheers
My wife said that when she was a child her family went here a lot on holiday and stayed with relatives, never been myself Tim but looks a really nice seaside town and my wife said she loved the Pier with the funfair rides and has brought back some lovely memories for her, thank you for sharing another superb vlog ♥️😀👍
During the lockdowns the Air, Sea and Rivers were pollution free, so clear .That pier would freak me out way too long , all that water !! Walton on the Naze looks lovely, Thank you Tim 🙂
This is a great video. I loved seeing the walk from east to west. I had great holidays in Walton from the late 1950s to the early 1970s, and still go back from time to time. My favourite part is the Naze and also Jubilee Field. Even at my advanced age, I find that I can still swim in the sea at Walton, it is not too cold, unlike most UK beaches I have experienced.
Lovely video, beautifully shot & presented. 👍 - Well done! As a family we've had a hut on the Naze, at Hipkin's beach, just a bit further down from where you started your walk, for probably over 70 years now & loved every second there! Up where the church is, in the graveyard, there are 4 propellers that make up a memorial for the crew of a WWII bomber that crashed on the Naze, not that far from where the tower is. As a kid I was fascinated by it & a Hurricane that crashed on the beach & is now in Hendon RAF museum. The bomber was recovered in the 70's & if you go onto the local photographers "Putmans" website there are photographs of the excavation. The event was really tragic as the aircraft was crewed by Canadians & was shot down by a Canadian anti-aircraft battery right on the Naze there in a friendly fire incident. Oldest crew member was 26 & youngest 19. 😕
Excellent filming and Narration, lovely shots of a turquoise sea for 2020.. You could sell this video to Walton tourist board, if there is one, for a promotional service. This video certainly sold Walton on the Naze to the viewer.

Hi Tim what a lovely place could do with a bit of work on the pier as you said but it's otherwise ok . Never been ill have to visit one day . Thankyou for sharing with us love Tracey xx
You must do Frinton on Sea and St Osyth and Brightlingsea too! There's a martello tower at St Osyth which is a museum right in the middle of the Haven Holiday Park
I was last at the pier on a school trip back in 83. There used to be a mirror maze, and that ghost train was there but themed different, you sure picked the best day to go Tim.
I am staying in nearby lovely Frinton on sea. Had some stormy skies here yesterday evening & I captured a funnel cloud forming over the sea... only lasted about 10 secs before dissipating, unfortunately. A waterspout would have been awesome! Anyway, today, I am going to walk down to Walton on the Naze. Hopefully, do the Tower at some point. Met office says cloudy skies but sunny here at the moment... hope it stays that way 🤞
- Just a small point but what you called Naze Marina is actually the Town Hard, Naze Marina is a holiday park and Titchmarsh Marina is up the Naze. Your Title would be apt though, having lived in Walton from 67 to 97 it was definitely time to get out, I did visit twice this summer and enjoyed it, missed the quote on the front of the pier gone since the revamp.
Great video Tim, not only the friendliest but also the safest, Victoria left her watch in the gardens you walked through and it was still there several hours later. I actually really like Walton Pier but agree it could perhaps do with a smarten up and I remember the rickety planks. So next week you visit the Pier of the Year 2020 be good to see if you agree. Had forgotten about those unusual tiered beach huts.
I visited in February 2019 when it was brilliant blue sky and water and warm enough for shirtsleeves! Beyond the beach huts and the tower, is an amazing area of geological deposits, that on this day was as colourful and as fascinating as the rather more well known Alum Bay sands on the IOW. The only downside were the London gault blue grey clay deposits that stuck to my shoes so much, that I was on the point of throwing them away and buying new ones.
I believe I was sailing on the Backwaters on the very hot days when you filmed this. My Mum's house is just behind you where you begin your walk. Nice video.
I really enjoyed it. Our parents use to take us to a caravan park there when we when kids. Only found your channel a few weeks a go and love it. I was hoping you'd have a VLOG of Walton on the Naze, and well hew it is. Thank you. I live in Australia and visit as often as i can.. I will be going back here. Cheers.
A place I've visited periodically during my long life. Back in the day, you could see the pirate radio ships moored offshore. I like the gaps in the boards on the pier. Adds to the feeling of walking out above the waves. A pity the grass was dried brown by the weather. It's so much better when it's green. Another enjoyable video and I'll ignore the editing error as you approached the beach huts.
I love the beach huts. I seem to remember reading somewhere that a beach hut in Bournemouth sold for over £100,000 for a wooden hut. I think you really need to be committed to using it more than once or twice a year, if they are that expensive. Like most things desirable, they are only available to the very rich. Still it's nice to dream.
Was there today. Unlike in this video, the cold wind and rain made the beach a very different place. Not a day to be outside. But I went to go on the funfair rides in the pier. Had a lovely, fun afternoon in there. Love the old classic rides. And I'm an adult, but still a big kid at heart! You definitely should ride the Ghost Train Tim, it's really good!
@@WalkWithMeTim Thanks Tim. Your excellent videos inspired me to make my own video of my windy and wet visit to Clacton, Walton and Harwich, which I've just uploaded to TH-cam. Not anywhere near your professional quality, but I'm happy with it. Have you thought about making a video about Harwich? I only stopped briefly and it was getting dark. But what I saw was very interesting. Especially the views of the ships at Felixstowe Port. Harwich seems to have a lot of history. I'm going back there sometime for a proper visit.
Yet again awesome content and it really looked like you could of been aboard with how clear the sea was. I really hope that you do video of Corton and hopton on sea as I’m due to be going on holiday down there in a few weeks.
I’ve lived here nearly 20 years. You can see my house in your video. On Southcliff. It’s a beautiful place to live and I couldn’t live without my sea view. But the pier is a disgrace and let’s the place down. Whereas Clacton pier is amazing xx
Another great video, and good to see you have been to my neck of the woods LOL. You must give all your subscribers notice of where you are walking next, as you seem to be guaranteed good weather on those days!.
This was really interesting for me as I know the square root of Jack about Essex and am completely unfamiliar with Walton On the Naze but have to say that with the exception of that shoddy looking Pier it looks like a really nice place to visit on a sunny day and you clearly hit the jackpot with the weather Tim!
Great video .We have a beach hut near the pier and it was great to see it from a distance , but easily spotted with its yellow parasol .Not sure if we were there the day you filmed , but someone was enjoying our hut.
@@WalkWithMeTim We purchased our fifth row hut last year for £9500 . I believe some of the newer huts and front row huts are fetching as much as £20,000 . The daily rental for huts in a similar position to ours is £ 30 - £ 40 per day in high season front row huts are generally £50 .Rates drop Sept - April as the demand falls away. This year has been a bumper year for hiring due to the number of staycations.
Tim, you should definitely check out Sandown Pier on the Isle of Wight, it's very jam packed with amusements, fairground type rides, food stalls , little coin operated rides for kids, bowling alleys and an indoor crazy golf coarse. I've been on there myself back in August 2015, it looked quite something in comparison to most piers I've seen
I'm really enjoying your walks. Looking forward to seeing a lot more. British Seaside resorts really are quite unique. I'm a huge fan of British Seaside Piers, something we miss living in Oz. What are your plans for this channel? I'd relish the opportunity to see ALL the British Seaside Piers and to have them recorded on video before any more are lost. Thank you for taking time to present these walks, you really are very good at this.
Its the 3rd longest in uk at 792m behind Southport at 1107 m and southend at 2158 m. Al 3 have had railways or tramways on at one time and should have again really.
Thank you for doing the video of Walton on naze I haven't been there since I was ten and it looks as nice as it did then the pier hasn't changed much though and it does need an upgrade did you see if there was a pie and mash place on your walk around as me and my family used to go in there when we was there thank u
Great video which gives a good view of Walton on the Naze except you missed the really interesting beach at the Naze! It's apparently of international geological interest with rare soil - lots of fossils too! PS The pier is in the process of being renovated and is now very different inside. No rides yet, plenty of slot machine type amusements pouring out tickets to exchange for prizes. It's enclosed now and very dark inside rather than having the open walk way through.

Never been to Walton On The Naze, I think we need to go, especially the walk around the Naze itself. Thanks for the reccomendation.
You should!
Yet again awesome content and it really looked like you could of been aboard with how clear the sea was. I really hope that you do video of Corton and hopton on sea as I’m due to be going on holiday down there in a few weeks.
hope you had fun thanks for watching
Well done Tim.. love this video.. it really makes me want a weekend away. Where’s your next video? 💋❤️💋😍
Thanks gaby!
Be great to see frinton on sea with its amazing Art Deco houses and if you do walk along to Holland haven county park it’s beautiful.
Sounds great!
I’ve lived here nearly 20 years. You can see my house in your video. On Southcliff. It’s a beautiful place to live and I couldn’t live without my sea view. But the pier is a disgrace and let’s the place down. Whereas Clacton pier is amazing xx
Oh wow!
Another great video, and good to see you have been to my neck of the woods LOL. You must give all your subscribers notice of where you are walking next, as you seem to be guaranteed good weather on those days!.
Lol
This was really interesting for me as I know the square root of Jack about Essex and am completely unfamiliar with Walton On the Naze but have to say that with the exception of that shoddy looking Pier it looks like a really nice place to visit on a sunny day and you clearly hit the jackpot with the weather Tim!
I know it was maybe too hot!
@@WalkWithMeTim No such thing as too hot in the UK lol!
The pier may be shoddy as its so old but its amazing and and it's done it over time but it's a classic
Great video .We have a beach hut near the pier and it was great to see it from a distance , but easily spotted with its yellow parasol .Not sure if we were there the day you filmed , but someone was enjoying our hut.
Are they expensive
@@WalkWithMeTim We purchased our fifth row hut last year for £9500 . I believe some of the newer huts and front row huts are fetching as much as £20,000 . The daily rental for huts in a similar position to ours is £ 30 - £ 40 per day in high season front row huts are generally £50 .Rates drop Sept - April as the demand falls away. This year has been a bumper year for hiring due to the number of staycations.
@@stevebudd1870 yikes
Tim, you should definitely check out Sandown Pier on the Isle of Wight, it's very jam packed with amusements, fairground type rides, food stalls , little coin operated rides for kids, bowling alleys and an indoor crazy golf coarse. I've been on there myself back in August 2015, it looked quite something in comparison to most piers I've seen
Thanks for the tip 😃
I'm really enjoying your walks. Looking forward to seeing a lot more. British Seaside resorts really are quite unique. I'm a huge fan of British Seaside Piers, something we miss living in Oz. What are your plans for this channel? I'd relish the opportunity to see ALL the British Seaside Piers and to have them recorded on video before any more are lost. Thank you for taking time to present these walks, you really are very good at this.
Thanks Mark glad you enjoyed
wonderful walk Tim can't wait for Clacton. I believe there was once a Butlins at Clacton?
Yes there was .. i didn't realise either
Yes there was
excellent video, like
Thank you! Cheers!
Its the 3rd longest in uk at 792m behind Southport at 1107 m and southend at 2158 m. Al 3 have had railways or tramways on at one time and should have again really.
oh thanks Michael
Love Walton on the nàze
me too!
Thank you for doing the video of Walton on naze I haven't been there since I was ten and it looks as nice as it did then the pier hasn't changed much though and it does need an upgrade did you see if there was a pie and mash place on your walk around as me and my family used to go in there when we was there thank u
thanks for watching you are welcome!
Nice visit great video. 😁
Thanks
