    Hi! Great video! I'm a life-long (69 years) Walton resident, and I remember back when I was a kid, numerous scaffold poles, clips etc. along that beach. Of course, back then the beach was a lot closer to the original WW2 position relative to the cliffs. To give you an idea of cliff erosion, back in the 60's the southern-most pillbox was only a few feet from the base of the cliffs. The second one to the north was actually on top of the cliff! And the 3 concrete 'donuts' as I call them, were indeed bases for anti-aircraft guns or experimental rocket launchers. And again, in my childhood, they were several yards back from the cliff edge where it was back then.
    Every year since has seen more and more erosion, so more objects are revealed. I believe the clay pipes you saw in the cliff were part of an impressive WW2 drainage system. There's also a pillbox and a gun emplacement further back from the cliff edge, which you find if you take a walk along the grassy paths from the Naze Tower down to the bottom of the Naze! I'm sure you'll find more interesting stuff should you make a return visit! 👍🏻

    Great video and great find Em and Stu, makes you wonder what else could be revealed with all that erosion happening on the cliffs.👍👍

      I'm sure we'll be back in the future to see if there's been any more developments, no doubt there will be.. Thanks for watching Anthony, nice to hear from you 😊 👍

      Thanks, we're always fascinated by the military bits that were buried after the war and where they are.. Also loads around the Suffolk coast too.. really interesting! Thanks for watching 👍😀

    Some similarities with an earlier video on the Norfolk beach a few months ago. WW2 traces arise from the beaches again! Thanks as always for the video, Em & Stu. Cheers my friends! ❤❤😊😊🇬🇧🇺🇸

      Yes it certainly has some similarities with the tracks we visited at Trimingham in Norfolk although we believe those ones to be abit later and related to the construction of coastal erosion defences.. Love finding things like this! Thanks for watching 👍😀

      We take a walk down to the Naze at least once every year and it's always shocking to see how much more has been lost to the sea.. surprisingly I've never actually been up the tower, must do it before its also lost.. 😔 Thanks for watching, always appreciated 👍

    There is so much to see on the Walton coast. There were several different types of pillbox and each had their role to play should England have been invaded. I'm sure that there will be more to find with the coastal erosion.

      From Gun Batteries, Decoys, Radar and Rocket Testing.. Walton had a massive amount of military installations back in the day.. We've made a couple of previous videos about the defences of Walton and will definitely be back as its fascinating.. 😀

    Round ones are usually ww1 pillboxes, Eddie? The eagle 🦅

    • @ExploringWithEmAndStu
      @ExploringWithEmAndStu  ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I can remember they were something to do with ww1 but I'm not sure they were pillboxes.. 🤔

    • @andrewpn1
      @andrewpn1 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the round ones are not pillboxes, they date from ww2 and are the foundations for the rocket launch pads.

      Lol you mistake what I said, stu asked if the pill box's are ww1 or ww2 in the video ww1 pill box's are round in construction, ww2 are generally other shapes hexagonal ect. 😊
