They also like to keep tradition alive, jack in the green parade, carnival, pirates day, motorbikes going into hastings, also rye is a lovely place,i used to walk there from st leonards on sea over 16 miles away.
Hastings has so many cool events. Jack in the Green during the last weekend in April-1st of May., the Pirate weekend in July, last year it was so hot so me and my kids decided to play ship wrecked pirates lol. You'd swim with your pirate clothes on and you'd dry as you were walking about. Then you have the Bonfire procession in October, Google the events for exact dates. 😊❤
@@liscatcat8756 If you're coming down for the day there shouldn't be anything to worry about, overall it is a pretty safe place in the daytime. The seafront, old town and Hastings castle on the west hill are nice places to go mostly friendly and relaxed kind of feel to it.
it’s weird to see you film the miniature railway, my uncle owns and built all the trains there. the tracks, the keyosk, everything. I remember sitting in his lap when he drove the trains.

We live in Hastings & St Leonards.. my husband used to work on the pier as maintenance in the 80's. The part of the pier you thought was 'the old pier' was the old landing stage. All the supports etc are the original iron work & supports from the old pier.
A great place to visit on a sunny day, lots of historic buildings including the fisherman museum and stories of the Smugglers. The old town is quirky but Hastings' new town has had alot of shops closed down and ovetime has deteriorated.

Very enjoyable walk, Tim! I went in May and the east cliff railway was closed and the west cliff was open - this meant I went into the (very unusual) smugglers’ caves up there - great fun!
Hi Tim, Those tall sheds you see are where the fishermen used to hang their nets up vertically to dry .They used to be quite common in fishing ports..... great videos, Thank you..
Not quite correct Vernon - they would store them in the "Net Shops" but not dry them there as they would rot. They dried them on the beach and stored them in the huts when they were dry.

Hi Tim looks lovely there I've never been. The cliff railway looks good there is one in Lynton and Lynmouth North Devon it works by water . Its quite a short railway, and used to be part of the Ian Allen group of companies, looks like it has passed into new hands since I was last in the area, and looks good with new things happening,
Many memories came back to me. I was there summer '17. Not long ago, but many thanks for reminding me of those times and this nice little town. I had forgotten some places but I really want to go back to see these places again and make new memories. Thank you again and very nice video! 😉🤘🏼
I use to love going to Hastings a lot when I was a kid, used to love going in the funfair, going in the arcade, playing golf and get fish and chips. I used to love going to Hastings White Rock theatre every year at panto. I know it closed down but Debenhams use to be along the sea front, still in the town and there cafe had a lovely sea view. Hastings pier got burn down in 2010 and reopen in 2016.
The old pier had a bit more character than this new one, as I remember it from when I lived in Hastings in the early '70s, albeit in that slightly seedy retro seaside style! I remember going to see Genesis in the big dancehall there, and for a short time I had a part time job calling the bingo. "Legs Eleven, All the Threes, Thirty-Three" and so on... it was a hoot! You should explore more of the Old Town, there's more to it than just George St (?) where you walked. It really is the best part of Hastings. And check out the Jack-in-the-Green Festival that happens around May Day. :-)
What an enjoyable walkabout tour.....always wanted to visit hastings since I saw it on a school tv programme in the 1970s.....Tim you should also do a video on the revamped NEW BRIGHTON seafront on the wirral !
The architecture and beautiful old buildings/shops/hotels/beach shelters are stunning! Not just here but pretty much everywhere in UK compared to new countries like NZ. Loving your tours.
The pier did have a massive building down the end for events, a bingo hall, a multitude of little shops similar to Eastbourne pier and a small pub near the front. It burnt down conveniently days before the insurance ran out, privately owned by a foreign investor. After a lot of politics was repaired and ownership reclaimed. The structure itself needed a lot of money spent on it, therefore wasn’t the funds to build much on top. The idea is in the summer to hold concerts, have a string of big names every year (90s/00s bands) so they need the space. Lol I’ve lived in Hastings nearly twenty years I should go walk about. Normally I only go to places I want to, so miss everything in between. The town has had much investment and has vastly improved from what it was, and is still improving every year. Much to do with it is attracting people from all over, well to do Londoners the bulk of them spending money and taking some pride in their properties and gardens. Parking is an issue unfortunately especially in the summer - the rates have gone up which locals like myself refuse to pay. The main town centre is nothing exciting so I rarely go there unless strictly necessary. For tourists all you really want is the Old Town area, the seafront, and the pier although what’s there changes frequently. And the pier is the opposite end of town it’s a pretty long walk! You’d be lucky to get a parking space anywhere near it at any time of year, hence that’s another place I rarely visit merely drive past.
Been visiting hastings since i was a kid 36 now so just under 30 years. But i always remember a old lady walking about with a pram and a plastic doll in it

Actually made me a little homesick and I moved away almost 9 years ago! The town itself isn't great, but the seafront and old town are really nice. It's a great place for a weekend away or a long weekend. On the West Hill you have the castle, but also the Smugglers Caves, which are worth a visit. I think the West Hill lift has been out of action for quite some time, so the other option you have is the massive set of stairs which are just to the left of the lift - I used to climb them a lot as a kid, as I lived up there. It's definitely a work out, but worth it as the views are great.

I visited Hastings twice back in October when i stayed at Combe Haven holiday park and it does have a brilliant beach but when I visited the pier was closed but I had a great paddle in the sea and quite steep getting in as so many pebbles the town is OK but I didn't see the old town sadly if I did I would of visited it aswell but Eastbourne is my favourite I also visited Brighton twice before too
When I went last year I was disappointed by the drunks and druggies in the centre. This is true of any city, though in the UK. You don't get it in Italy and Portugal, for example.
I live in St Leonards- on sea ,Hasting the pier was damaged by a storm in 1990, and completly closed in 2008, then 95% was destroyed by fire in 2010 , then it was rebuilt then opened on 27th April 2016
At 5:50. "As you can see, the beach is pretty busy!" Er, busy? Heaven help us if the beach was deserted! Other than that, Hastings is a lovely historical resort. I took my wife for a day there during our courting days. 23 years ago, the pier was very different. There were far more side-stalls and no beer garden.
They did a few gigs on the pier when it re opened. I saw Ocean colour scene,Peter hook & the bootleg Beatles. But not done anything like that for a while.
I lived there three year ago is a very beautiful place a lot of festival and weird people, but still good. so many homeless and a lot of gull that rob you food..
Great video, have u been to rye, East Sussex or dymchurch/ramsgate/whitstable in kent ?, Folkestone used to look like hastings but the seafront has been ripped apart to make way for flats (sea damage inevitable), try to avoid that place, keep up the good work 👏
Just booked a weekend here ,for April never been before looks nice ,the Friday boris locked us all down for the first time ,we were in Brighton ,which I will go back to one day, hope we don’t get none of that crap again
Thanks for this. I lived in the area until 16 years ago & not been back in must be 8 years. Good to see what they did with the pier. Many happy memories of walking from the beach at Warrior square through Bottle Alley towards the pier. Did you walk the same route but along the prom too? I'm interested to know if the little weather box is still there? Used to love that as a child.

I visited Hastings twice back in October when i stayed at Combe Haven holiday park and it does have a brilliant beach but when I visited the pier was closed but I had a great paddle in the sea and quite steep getting in as so many pebbles the town is OK but I didn't see the old town sadly if I did I would of visited it aswell but Eastbourne is my favourite I also visited Brighton twice before too
Another one well done Tim.
Thanks michael
Interesting visit, very nice views.
Yes, thank you
Lived there for 10 years. I cannot afford to move back , I would move back like a shot if I could !111
Moving here for myjob and was nervous and people told me it.was horrible :( but nowbim excited
It looks lovely ❤
enjoyed
You make it seem so much more glamorous than it actually is 💀🤣
Lol
When I went last year I was disappointed by the drunks and druggies in the centre. This is true of any city, though in the UK. You don't get it in Italy and Portugal, for example.
I live in St Leonards- on sea ,Hasting the pier was damaged by a storm in 1990, and completly closed in 2008, then 95% was destroyed by fire in 2010 , then it was rebuilt then opened on 27th April 2016
Got a great tan
Genuinely growing to love these videos Tim. Favourite place you’ve visited this year?
Bournemouth :-)
Love your videos
Thanks Leah
brill vid on hastings
Thanks Dave
At 5:50. "As you can see, the beach is pretty busy!"
Er, busy? Heaven help us if the beach was deserted!
Other than that, Hastings is a lovely historical resort. I took my wife for a day there during our courting days. 23 years ago, the pier was very different. There were far more side-stalls and no beer garden.
It's busy for today
Superb !
😉 thanks brett
They did a few gigs on the pier when it re opened. I saw Ocean colour scene,Peter hook & the bootleg Beatles. But not done anything like that for a while.
they should do more!
Its so wied to see my home on TV
You should do one of these for Eastbourne and Bexhill on Sea
I'm really surprised that you didn't see any dinghys arriving across the channel.
yes I was as that day was in the news loads
Nice to see my home town
I lived there three year ago is a very beautiful place a lot of festival and weird people, but still good. so many homeless and a lot of gull that rob you food..
loved it
Yes it was very hot last year today 3 August 22c 😊 and raining ⛈
Great video, have u been to rye, East Sussex or dymchurch/ramsgate/whitstable in kent ?, Folkestone used to look like hastings but the seafront has been ripped apart to make way for flats (sea damage inevitable), try to avoid that place, keep up the good work 👏
thank you :-)
Hastings looks good,, we are spoilt in this country for choice.
we are indeed!
Wow never been to Hastings , but looks amazing. Definitely worth a visit.
Just booked a weekend here ,for April never been before looks nice ,the Friday boris locked us all down for the first time ,we were in Brighton ,which I will go back to one day, hope we don’t get none of that crap again
lets hope
Thanks for this. I lived in the area until 16 years ago & not been back in must be 8 years. Good to see what they did with the pier. Many happy memories of walking from the beach at Warrior square through Bottle Alley towards the pier. Did you walk the same route but along the prom too? I'm interested to know if the little weather box is still there? Used to love that as a child.
Thank you Tracey, glad you enjoyed 😉
If u go again check out the crime museum you walked past it defo worth a look!
Great video Kim hi
