I grew up in Southwold. Sadly today its been taken over by rich Londoners so local people can no longer afford to live there.

Rich Londoners have also meant Londoners can't live there either. Where are we meant to go
To be fair housing in Southwold has been expensive for years. It started with the American staff from the two airbase's that used to be operational nr Ipswich. The bases are now shut down, but house prices remained high due to rich second home buyers that took over when the American's left.
How fortunate you were to have 'grown up' there. I grew up in East London after the War, never knew if I was going to eat every day and had to sell newspapers when I was 7 to help the family coffers and retired 61 years later! And if you want "rich" go to Spain and you can see how many "rich Londoners" DON'T own big properties there BUT how many "poor" people from Yorkshire, Cumbria, Blackpool and Manchester, Suffolk,Kent and the Home Counties DO!

I come from Lowestoft but also love Southwold. I have lived in Bavaria, Germany for 40 years now and this is the first year that I will not be coming on holiday to Suffolk. Due to Covid-19 I had to cancel my holiday. In actual fact I should have arrived at Norwich Airport today. Hence, I am thoroughly enjoying watching all your "Walk with Me" videos - especially as I can visualise where most of the places are. I have recommended my German friends to watch the videos, so that they can see what a lovely area it is that I come from. Now looking forward to watching the Hunstanton one. Many thanks for bringing a touch of Suffolk and Norfolk to Bavaria.

Great work Tim. Fabulous job as per usual and I am blown away with Southwold, what a pretty place. I really would love to visit, wish it was nearer though. The place looks like it has a lovely relaxing vibe to it.

I'm lucky enough to have grown up here & I work in the town now. Douglas House has been many different things over the past century. The road it sits on (Stradbroke Road) used to be the main High Street, packed full of shops/bakeries/hairdressers etc. Now it's purely residential. Love your video!

Amazing! I was here for 3 days in April 2019 to collect data for my NEA in A-Level Geography and I'm sure loads of others who had done A-level Geography in the past might've been here too. Aside from that, the town (especially the lighthouse) is also famous for being one of the filming spots for the Cbeebies show, 'Grandpa in my pocket'.

Absolutely love Southwold but it’s seen a few changes in recent years such as the old second hand bookshop shutting down and more modern shops moving in.

Oh I would love to gobon that beach. I have a photo in my bathroom of that beach (well it's actually a letter card I picked up in QD . My bathroom is seaside themed cos I love the seaside. ❤

Its funny how things looked back then with social distancing stuff going on went there today its was lovely the games on the pier are unique and having a pint at Sole bay inn was bliss.
I love the quirky clock on the pier at Southwold. Unfortunately the weather wasn't brilliant on the day we visited last week so it wasn't running but have seen a short video of it. Slightly childish but funny too. Very impressed with the whole town and love the inland lighthouse too. Definitely one to revisit in the future.
Southwold is ridiculously busy in the summer, dead on the winter. I've worked in and around Southwold for many years, lots of snobs but many great locals. The magpies bakery is nice but it's very expensive!

Southwold and, in fact, all of that stretch of the Suffolk coast is wonderful. I would highly recommend you take a trip to Dunwich. I submit that the best fish and chips will be served from the big shed on the beach there. It also has an extraordinary history. Highly recommended.

Hear the chip shop has burnt down. Although it may have been rebuilt now.

Hi Tim this was great I've only been to Southwold once a few years ago. We only went to the pier and beach . We went to Waberswick once as well on the same holiday. We stayed at Kessingland. I will definitely visit Southwold again at some point and take in more of the sites . Thankyou for sharing with us Tracey xxx

It's very sad to see so many houses for holiday rent. I know it's a help for the town/village but it's going to be hard in the winter. I have stayed here twice in the distant past. It just must be hard for locals to buy in their own village.

I enjoyed the video, I have a friend who lives in Southwold and I wanted to see what it was like. One suggestion: you mention the "nice mural" on the side of a building. You might have mentioned that it's a portrait of one of Southwold's most famous writers, Eric Arthur Blair, who wrote under the pseudonym "George Orwell". He lived there, I don't exactly remember which years, but I imagine the house he lived in will have some signage.

Your channel is inspiring. You are a good story teller. You know details of what you display but I dont believe you when you say you use your smart phone to capture those High Dynamic range in exposures. 2:04 in the mirror there is a reflection of a pro camera ;-)
I use both .. this was filmed on my s10 plus , then I colour grade in editing 😎👍
Go to Southwold a lot for holidays although its getting really expensive now, especially with lots of second home owners from London who have ruined it for many locals, especially in the summer when they block all the roads with their posh cars. The pier is great and has some amazing amusement machines which are handmade which are worth having a go on. Adnams beer is possibly the best in the world (very biased) and the few pubs in the town are great esp the Lord Nelson. Worth popping to Walberswick and Aldeburgh whilst you're in the area as well, also Snape Maltings is good for a bit of retail therapy for to catch a concert

They call it London on Sea, because wealthy "metropolitan elite" have second or rental homes here; hence nowhere to park in season and London price for a pint. Lovely video though. Blackshore / the harbour area is best as its the most wild / unspoilt. Great footage :-)

Love Southwold. Stayed several times in the Old Fisherman's Hut at the Harbour. Unfortunately for locals too many houses now holiday lets. Mind you even the village l live in at the foot of the Pennines has them as well

Spent a couple of holidays there in my early teens. Friend moved to Lowestoft a few years back so visit Southwold whenever i visit her. Fish & chips down at the Quay side can't be beat, good memories.

My cousin lives there and I normally visit once a month but that has been knocked on the head due to Covid. He's one of the ones having to do the 12 - week self isolate.
Our grandfather was a brewer at Adnams and mum and I lived in the house next door for a year when I was a kid. Recommend it to anyone. Very friendly locals and almost zero crime.
Also well worth the walk to Walberswick and The Old Bell there... when it reopens 😷

lovely video, and you are so right about the smell of the air of Southwold, that warm hoppy smell is gorgeous. We visit quite often, when we stay at my Sister in Laws house in Walberswick, another beautiful place to visit.

Interesting tour. Wish I’d watched this before we went there last week. Would have looked out for all the quirky details. Didn’t have time to visit the harbour unfortunately, but can recommend the lunches at Adnams Brewery.

Hi Tim, great walk at Southwold, I remember the brewery tour and wine tasting in the Adnams shop and staggering back to the B&B under the lighthouse light. How about Cromer as your next walk, we have had some really nice walks around the town when staying at the Paris Hotel and not forgetting the fish and chip restaurant and the fresh crab sandwich for a picnic on the pier. Unfortunately our Scratby holiday is now cancelled on the 4th July at Parkdean so really enjoying your walks to make us feel we are there. Many thanks Kim and Steve
