    I’m an ambitious triathlete and I do at least 2 swims a week(6000m a week) My last one was all about the swim strokes. I got down to 38 per 50m from 46! Just need to get my speed from 1:55 to 1:40. Not bad from a guy who could swim 150m a year ago. Love your videos keep it up!

    Great review, buddy. I always see us as a kind of Peter McKinnon (you) and Casey Neistat (me) duo in terms of our video styles! Yours are always so crisp and clean. Love it.

    Thorough review of the product! The multiple nosepieces should really help with fit and comfort. Good to hear you can easily flip sides left/right for the display. These would be a great training tool for the swim!

      They are game changing! Having access to various metrics as you swim makes a huge difference in your training. Our users love them. Once you wear them you won't be able to go back to your regular pair of goggles.

    My last swim workout? How’d I feel? Slow, that’s how I felt. Do these goggles have a “calendar mode?” That’s how slow I am right now.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      😆 they could put a 🥕 in the display. It will make you go faster. #youtubescience

  • @mamadove76
    @mamadove76 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Impressed you were able to snag video of the display while swimming! I’d be interested to see if someone like me who is far sighted and does not wear contact lenses can clearly see the display that close up. My last swim workout was an easy 1500y stretch out swim after a morning of PT and run on the AlterG.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bet you'd be able to see the display. If your eyes are focussed too close you can actually make out the display. You need to be looking at least 2-3 feet out to see the display clearly. I've never tried the AlterG but it's something that I've wanted to try for years! I'm kind of jealous. Hope training and PT is coming along well. 👍

    • @mamadove76
      @mamadove76 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matt LeGrand Good to know! I can’t see anything that is as close as a goggle is to my eyeball, but can see 2-3 feet ahead. The AlterG has been awesome...your Achilles would appreciate it. Have only had about 5 runs on it, and it’s not the same workout as being able to run on my own, but grateful to get some run time in while I rehab the knee. Thankfully can still get hard efforts in on the trainer and in the pool, and the run will come back!

    I'm still pretty new to swimming, but my last couple of swim workouts something seems to have clicked for me. Once a month I do a 1000m TT to see if I've been improving. Last month I averaged 2:07 for the 1000m. Yesterday I did the 1000m TT and averaged 1:49! I know I'm still super slow compared to most, but I'm so excited to see improvement in the pool after barely being able to swim 50m without stopping just 5 months ago!
    Great review as always. Someone will be very lucky to have them. I'm more impressed with looks of that app than I thought I would. I'm not sure if I missed it in the video, but I assume their app pushes to other apps like strava/training peaks? Thanks!

    Great video -- fascinating goggles. Last swim workout was yesterday. 2500m of various intervals trying really hard to detect and fix form defects. Finished with a set of 4 x 25 sprint lengths where it all finally clicked and hit some PRs. Granted... only 25 meters... but still. Looking forward to getting back into the water later this week to see if I can find that zone again.

    Another great video Matt! My last swim workout yesterday was 2000m of speed intervals. It felt rough at first but got better towards the end, maybe because I was finally waking up by then. Early mornings are rough! How long did it take to get used to seeing the data screen in the goggles? Was it distracting at all?

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The data wasn’t too hard to get used to and it wasn’t too distracting for me personally. I just felt like they lacked visibility and the fit wasn’t my favorite. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Super cool technology though

    I can't not read 'IN THE WOOOOORLD' without Jeremy Clarkson in my head. Glad they actually work pretty well, definitely a steep price of entry but not a bad workout tool for the data loving triathlete types.
    My last workout was.. phew, a few weeks back before my first marathon. basically I was using swims as a break for my legs in the middle of ramping up weekly run volume. and to that end, it was super casual pace and low effort. I've been focusing on arm technique to try and eek out more glide, as well as trying to force myself to keep a higher arm cadence in the pool to get my mind ready for more OWS.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think higher cadence will really help in the open water. My main issue with these goggle was the fit, visibility and leaking. But a lot of the people that borrowed these goggles loved them and immediately wanted to buy them. . . until I mentioned the price. 😆 Hope you win!

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It might be a second or two off with your lap split but yeah, I think you could use it as a timer that way. Had same thoughts as you on the push offs and dives. They don’t seem to stay watertight on a fast turn, and I’ve never managed to dive with them. Would be great if they made the HUD display as a clip on for manufacturers like speedo or finish who actually have some idea about how to make a well fitting goggle as these guys are clearly a tech company, not a goggle company.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, that would be amazing. I'm not 100% sure that it's possible. I think they need the depth to do the HUD correctly and the depth is what makes these less streamline. They still seem like a really great company. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do next. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👌

      Thank you for your feedback, John! We will share it with our product team. If you’re using the goggles in the pool or a swim spa, you can choose one of the following time options as your top metric: workout timer, interval timer and rest timer (only on the rest screen). You can also select up to three bottom metrics for your swim and rest screens.
      The top and bottom metrics on the turn screen can be changed individually.

    Hey Matt, I’m super curious about these, more so to see if I can maintain a prescribed pace for a prescribed duration. Anyway, there’s a couple thoughts that come to mind, and if you could provide your own thoughts, I’d appreciate it. Did they ever start to fog up? Man, I’d hate to invest $200 and these things fog up after a few months. And two, are you supposed to run your Garmin watch (945 in my case which is compatible) at the same time? Because the 945 has swim HR data and that would save $80 for the Polar unit. Thanks guy! Excellent content as always!

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, I’ll have to check on this. There will be a second video about it coming soon. Right now our air quality hasn’t been clear enough to open water swim yet. Let you know soon. 👍

    • @FORMswim
      @FORMswim 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’d be happy to answer those questions. The goggles have the same permanent, chemical-resistant anti-fog technology used in diving masks and should not require any cleaning beyond rinsing with clean water and air drying. The anti-fog will last longer, too, if you avoid touching the inside of the lens so as not to disrupt the coating.
      In open water, the goggles can connect to the Garmin Forerunner 945 for heart rate and GPS metrics. In the pool or in open water without a compatible GPS watch, you would need the Polar OH1/ OH1 + sensor to track your heart rate.

The goggles need to be connect to a compatible smartwatch to get GPS distance, pace, and heart rate (if supported by the watch) while swimming in open water. They can also be used on their own in open water and will track your time, real-time stroke rate, and calories.
