Hey I just did My 1st Valve timming Chain Job on a 5.4 2v svt lightning . was a sucess. Just an idea, can you pull off your rockers this way all your valves will stay closed. Then install your head, torque it down . Then time and install your timming chains then after you can re install your rockers, and rotating your crank cl wise to let your cams be in the right position , off the lobes to make it easy to re install the rockers.. would this work??
Hey man, good to hear from you again. I remember you doing this. Well honestly as long as it runs good does it matter if it has the less performance heads. Have you noticed a big difference in performance? Maybe you remember, maybe not I have quite a few F150s. My black 97 with the 4.6 has blown mysteriously, I suspect a leaking injector or 2 because it was hydrolocked and like an idiot I hit the key again. Seriously bummed me out , it was a good truck and everything including the air worked. Now I have a 2003 with the last 2 valve 5,4 which personally I'd rather have than the newer 5,4. Great truck but it is VERY rusty. Then my 97 plow truck and my wife's 98 both with 4,6s. Great engines but not nearly the power of the 5,4. Take care my friend
Thanks Dave! You know, I really don't know, I bought the truck with a blown head gasket and didn't drive it other than around the block before pulling the heads off. That 2003 is the best of the 5.4s, the last of the 2 valves and they fixed the spark plug issue for that year. Yeah, the 3 valves are problems with those cam phasers, didn't work out so well. Then they went from bad to worse with the Ecobost, lol I _won't_ own one of those. The 4.6 is the superior engine, but yes, the 5.4 does have the power.
So, you got it running, but not with the performance heads? What kind of performance are we talking about here? What happens to the heads you still have but not installed?. It's been awhile so I should probably go back and watch the previous vids and I won't ask dumb questions. Glad to see you posting again bro. 👍
Thanks Dave! The original heads needed a full rebuild + the cam lands looked kind of washed out. It was cheaper to buy a good used set of heads. If only I had known about the year change. But even if I had them fixed now, those MLS head gaskets and head bolts are kind of expensive. So the engine went from 260hp to 235, 25 hp loss. Stinks, but that's the way it goes for right now.

I don't see why not, it would be another way to do it
