After Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977, the African American newspaper, the Chicago Defender explained that: “When Elvis Presley breathed his last breath and the press hailed him as the ‘King of Rock,’ Ol’ Man River cried out, ‘Naw he ain’t! My friend Chuck Berry is the King of Rock. Presley was merely a Prince who profited from the royal talent of a sovereign ruler vested with tremendous creativity. Had Berry been white, he could have rightly taken [Presley’s] throne and worn his crown well.’”

His jeweler told the story that Elvis gave away his rings to the audience. One day he demanded him to open the case with jewellery and threw it all into the crowd. Elvis was very generous most of the time without asking for publicity. There are many, many reports and videos of that.
    F.E.: King of kindness

This song was written and performed by Simon and Garfunkel in 1969. He clearly loved the song and added it to his list of songs to sing. He added the gospel parts to it because in Las Vegas he arranged all of his music including his singers. He had male and female singers that added to the beauty of the songs. No one like him. He played piano, guitar and watch ❤

Elvis had no vocal training, and he produced all of his recordings after he left Sun records in 1956, having learned production from Sam Phillips. He was very trim most of his life, this concert having a 32" waist.
He was plagued by medical problems and genetic abnormalities his whole life, as was most everyone on his mother's side. Many died very young. He took prescription drugs to sleep since he had insomnia his whole life. He started uppers in the Army, when on maneuvers. He was not into hard or street drugs, other than a few times trying Marijuana. He tried LSD once out of curiosity.
He was one of the hardest working entertainers ever, along with James Brown, who was a dear friend of his. Long live the King and the Godfather!! Thanks for your great reaction. 🔥❤️🔥❤️

Elvis Presley was born January 8, 1935, in Tupelo Mississippi
He died August 16, 1977, in Memphis Tennessee (from cardiac arrest)
Elvis`s career lasted for 24 years. He was "overweight" for 2 years before his death and that was mainly due to his health problems. He wasn`t as overweight as he was bloated, because his internal organs were slowly shutting down.
Yet everybody is constantly talking about him as being overweight. The media have really done their piece by constantly repeating the same old same old lies.
What do you mean by "He gained weight"? In this performance, he is in great shape and has a flat stomach.
Elvis is an American National Treasure and should be treated as one. Children should learn about him in school in order to avoid all the ignorance concerning this important artist who influenced the musical world like no other modern artist.
I don`t care what anybody says, Elvis had his reasons for taking prescription drugs. He didn`t die because of the drugs. He would have died with or without them. Elvis was 42 when he passed. His mother took no drugs, and she died suddenly at the age of 46 (from a heart attack), just like many of Elvis`s relatives on the maternal side of his family, who died very young.
On January 12, 2023, Elvis`s daughter Lisa Marie Presley died suddenly at age 55 from cardiac arrest.
Thank you for your reaction to this wonderful performance and song that was originally by Simon & Garfunkel.

This is Elvis at his absolute best, he was in perfect condition, aged 35yo here and only weighing in around 170lb so that tbh is not over weight. He really out together such a backing of musicians and singers around him. Elvis was not into hard drugs, he got hooked sadly on uppers and downers to keep him functioning and then progressed to pain killers and strong anti depressants around 1974 onwards, but at this time in 1970 life was actually really good, his marriage was still intact, he daughter was 2yo, he was breaking all Vegas records, he was recording hit music and he was just taking his concerts back in the road and touring the USA to sold out arenas every time. To answer your other question Elvis started out in 1954 and by 1956 he was a world wide hit. nice reaction thanks

That's an excellent point about how he seems to love every song that he sings any loves interacting with his band also, which as a guy who has played in bands my whole life, I just love that about him. What a lot of people don't realize is that he was a very talented and gifted arranger as well. He arranged most of everything you see happening there, and even from his early days in the mid-1950s when he was so young, he always managed to attract the best musicians to be around him.

Elvis was REALLY healthy here. Prime time NO DOUBT. Prime lasted until about 1973. Starting in 74 you could see him gain weight. However Elvis was never really FAT. Most of the visible weight was some scary levels of inflammation. His colon was 3 TIMES THE SIZE that it should have been. His heart was enlarged too. Elvis was 6'1 and probably never weighed more than 240 at his absolute worst. Maybe not even. So we arent talking the Human Beat Box from the Fat Boys here. Elvis JUST GOT GRAVELY ILL. And being who he was, HOUNDED by the press. He just couldnt go to the doctors like a normal human being. his immense fame put him in contact with the wrong hanger-ons that were there to collect a paycheck,,,, they killed him.

I don’t know what previous videos you’ve seen yet, but Elvis was very fit in this 1970 time period. He worked out with expert karate instructors. He did have a dependency on prescription drugs for many years. He would take them to sleep after shows, then to wake up before shows. He was enabled by his doctors, and the staff around him. This was before the time of the Betty Ford clinic and strong regulation against prescription drug abuse. I always recommend if you are interested in learning about Elvis’s history to try and explore his performances chronologically. Thank you for sharing!

Elvis was born in 1935, came to stardom in 1956, had a 23 year career and died at the age of 42 in 1977. This is a cover of Paul Simon's famous hit, and when Paul heard it he said "what am I suppose to do now, after Elvis did it". this performance was in 1970. Paul recently said "I took my son to see Elvis Grave at Graceland and weep when I saw it" His effect on music and culture was what everyone tries to reproduce. I would like to say to all the Elvis impersonators, stop, please you are doing more harm to Elvis. Elvis was given prescription drugs by his doctor he never did street drugs. He gained weight? Here his weight was 167 lbs here on a 6ft frame. What are you watching? Elvis really didn't get the weight problems until the last 3 years of his life. Thanks

I learned that both Elvis' mother and father had Native American Cherokee heritage going back generations. I guess that's where he gets his color. They also had European, Scotland, Ireland, German. His identical twin brother, Jesse Garon, was a stillborn. His health he inherited from his Mom's side. Heart disease ran in their side of the family. When he gained weight, the heart disease had started, there were signs of fluid. He died at 42 years of age from a heart attack, his mother died from a heart attack at 46. If he were alive today, he would have just had his 89th birthday. I enjoy your reactions and the way you want to find out things, not just rush through, "let's get to the next one".👍👍👍

BRO, From Minnesota's biggest ELVIS fan I say THANK YOU for responding to your ELVIS fans' requests. Just a comment, he had inherited health issues from both of his parents. And since his twin brother died at birth, drew him closer to his mother. She died just around the time his career was taking off, and unfortunately the doctors were only too quick to prescribe pills to sleep, and to wake up. His music career was too short, but he left us some legendary memories to remember him.

I like the question you are asking, Elvis did not have a singing lesson, when he was at RCA he produced all his albums and let someone else take the cridted for it, he was a pill addicted that started in the army on upper and downer but his voice never let him down, yes he did make over 740 songs knew about 90%of them. Thank you for your reaction

If You want to learn more about Elvis,
I'd Recomend the Documentary the Searcher and The 2022 Biopic Movie
E L V I S, It Did take Some Artistic Licence but overall it was a pretty accurate Depiction of his Life and Career IMHO.
Elvis Began to have some health problems in the "70's" but unfortunatly he hired a Doctor to go on tour with them and he began to prescribe meds, at first sleeping pills and Anphedamines and then As Elvis's Health problems increased the Doctor gave him Pain Meds and he eventually became addicted. After Elvis's Death in 1977, the Doctor was stripped of his License to practice Medicine in a Court of Law, for over prescribing dangerous levels of drugs to his Patients.

Prescription drugs! He had insomnia and that's how it started! He was born in 1935. The last four years of his life was hard on him! He had some medical problems and personal ones too. Not to mention, he never was allowed to do what he really wanted to do. Like go over seas, act in a serious movie! He was just worked to death with the same thing over and over! Yes he was over weight in the very last years but none of us cared and his voice was as brilliant as ever!!! RIP Elvis we all love ❤️ 😍 💖 you forever ❤🎉❤!!!

You are absolutely right! He did allow it to happen ! He would not stand up to Parker. Only one time and that was the 68 Comeback Special . It was supposed to be a Christmas show but Elvis did it his way and was the most watched show on TV for ithink that period of time! I don't have my head in the sand about Elvis! He made some bad choices but like he said, he was only a man! So therefore he was not perfect. But he was so good in so many other ways. We as long term fans accept him and love him, even with his faults! He was called The King of Rock for a reason by people all over the WORLD and has remained so for nearly 70yrs. I'm so glad the younger generations have started finding him and appreciate him. His is a legacy that will never be forgotten!!! Luv to Elvis forever ❤️ 💙

TWO health issues that are not spoken of as much as drugs (1) he inherited the genetic condition A-1 antitrypsin causing COPD/emphysema & began needing an inhaler to help him breath; at one point on his '68 special sit down segment he touched his throat & said hold it, i'm out of breath, wait a minute, but in typical Elvis fashion he just laughed & continued on; he had a bit of breathinf difficulty at his outdoor interview in Hawaii (2) he had painful glaucoma & mid-70's had emergency in-office eye surgery; the mega bright house lights & stage lights were hard on his eyes & began wearing prescription sunglasses out of need, not just to look cool. He sang every song, whether slow or upbeat, w-an amount of emotion & passion that came from his soul & his gut like no one else ever. You'll need to locate some good legitimate documentaries to learn about his life. This one th-cam.com/video/CrJ1c9tm-C0/w-d-xo.html is about what he did for charity that was never highly publicized. Thank you.

It came out not too long ago that he also had EDS. It causes multiple health problems at one time like the glaucoma and bowel issues. It also comes with constant ongoing pain. The dr who wrote a book about it is the only person who had access to all of his medical and autopsy reports because he testified at Dr. Nick's trial.
Unfortunately back then doctors didn't really know what EDS was abd the testing for it hadn't been invented yet.

I don't know which dr. you are referring to but there is on the web very lengthy detailed info by a dr. including charts of everything in his system; also included is the fall he had cracking his had on (if i recall correctly) the bathtub causing traumatic brain injury (TBI also known as STBI severe traumatic brain injury) w-effects both physical & mental that it can cause over time. Elvis used a lot of energy & emotion even during rehearsals. If you're interested, watch Elvis's rehearsal of "Polk Salad Annie." In doing so, you will also notice (if you've not already) that Elvis 'conducts' everyone on stage with a backward look, side look, differing movements of his hands, etc. Elvis didn't follow the band's lead; they followed him. This was also true when he was in the recording studio. Aside, this clip is from Elvis's "Elvis On Tour" concert that was taped in 1970 in Las Vegas. One of his other videos you watched "If I Can Dream" was from the "Elvis Comeback Special" which aired in 1968. Elvis was considered to be at his ideal weight of 170 lbs at 6'1" during the taping of "That's The Way It Is." The video clip of rehearsing "Polk Salad Annie" is here: th-cam.com/video/hv6Epy3pjUc/w-d-xo.html

Get to know a little about him at a rehearsal session --"In the Studio 1970" th-cam.com/video/gm6aW8sJsjg/w-d-xo.html ; be aware that Elvis has more than one version of his songs -- each version is different -- he never did the same thing 2ce, never repeated himself, so when someone makes a suggestion be aware that there are 2, 3 or maybe 4 other versions, some may be better quality. Comparisons are interesting: "Jailhouse Rock" the rehearsed choreographed version from his 1957 film th-cam.com/video/MfrC8PAQtlg/w-d-xo.html (3:28 min.) & his free rousing stand up version from the '68 TV special th-cam.com/video/87N6Qa0D7KY/w-d-xo.html (1:50 min.) -- short enough so you can do one then the other & see the difference in how he changed & evolved over 11 yrs. Btw, the films dancing was choreographed by Alex Romero who was never given credit, w-input from Elvis & the great Gene Kelly (most people think Elvis choreographed it all himself); Romero also choreographed Elvis in Clambake, Double Trouble & Speedway. Thanks.
