Ok I can't emphasize enough how helpful this video is for a beginner bike diy painter like me :) Thanks! I've watched dozens of bike painting videos and when to sand (and why!) was always a really big mystery and pretty confusing :)
Cheers Mate! I was "Wet" sanding after every stage.. But when it got to clear coat i wasnt sure, your explaination made me realise and understand even if the 1st and 2nd coats of clear isnt perfect or there's imperfection.. i dont sand straight away.. i let it cure for 1-2 days.. But i wet sanded not dry sanded before apply 2 round of clear after.. is there a diff? Wish i saw this video earlier ffs.. respraying my cars bonnet/hood and boot cover.. I was sanding 3 hours on hood then primer 1 coat resanded dry 1/2 day then 2nd coat then resanded.. Took me 4 days to do it and my arms were numb and cramping for 1 day.. Cheers!
The upside with wet is that you continually rinse away the “dust” and it’s easier to see the progress, avoid sanding too far and that you get larger grains, dust that scratches the surface. Also “dust” free. 👌
I'm redoing my egg chair, not a bike but this is super helpful, tough not what I wanted to hear (as an inpatient Adhd gremlin). What grit do you recommend for supper uneven spray primer?
It’s consuming your time and patience. 😉 I would say 600-800 grit. To coarse and you risk to get scratches shining through, to fine and the adhesion will be effected. 👌
I paint on the logos and Graphics with stencils instead of decal stickers. Makes a much more professional and durable finish. They can be painted on directly on the base coat or in between two layers of clear coat. The first layer needs to be fully cured and sanded for the paint to stick. 👌
@@MYnextDIYbikePROJECT I agree paint stencils look very good but I am doing a restoration that uses oe water transfer style decals. Same process though?

Jason, when in the process of clear coat do I add my decals?

@@draftwood ah, cool. Ive never used those, but my guess is yes, either on the base coat or in between the clear coat layers.
Thank you Jason Statham!
