I had the JBL 29" woody. It was a good gun but under powered. I've tried many different guns and so far the Pathos Sniper 75 is my favorite. Super accurate and small enough for hole hunting but powerful enough for some distance shots when needed.
Hey, just wondering what fish you shot at 9:30? Is it type of rock fish? Also do you ever see pacific cod while diving / spearfishing around Vancouver Island? Thanks! Love the videos!
That was a dusky rockfish. They are pretty cool looking while up close. And I have not, they are a really deep bottom dwelling fish. Apparently they live in large schools so to bad. Would be nice to see one! And cheers man!
You can but they don't keep well. Plus I bring all my seafood home from Vancouver Island. It's hard to bring a cooler full of Urchin home in a cooler. If I lived on Vancouver Island I would eat a lot more of them.
New subscriber here, your videos are awesome man. I was wondering if spare fishing would be legal in fresh waters as well? could you share a source to learn about the regulations? Thanks 🤩
Thanks!! Yes/no. It depends on the region and what you plan on harvesting. On Vancouver Island it's a no go and on the mainland only burbot (in some areas) and carp. It's pretty restricted. The salt water is where things open up a little more generously. Have you seen the DFO regs video I made? It's pretty dry but I go over most of the salt water regs
dude great video, i have a recommendation for a place you could go to for spear fishing, if you go to puerto cove and walk on the train track for 10-15min you will see a couple of spots on the rocks, my dad and i go fishing there all the time the bite it crazy out there but watch out for tides because as soon as the water lowers the water becomes really murky. but i wish you the best of luck
Thanks man! Unfortunately LingCod and rockfish were overfished around Vancouver so they have been off limits since the 90's. There populations are still struggling around the lower mainland. Salmon are off limits to spearfishing as you can't identify the species and size while underwater. So that pretty much only leaves Greenling and Flounder on the menu for spearfishing around Vancouver :(
Hey Chis, Please, see if it is possible to make a video how Luca makes his guns. I think it'll be interesting for a lot of people. Just a food for thought. Cheers,
Ahhhhhh congrats on baby no.2 On that note when do you think is a reasonable age to start teaching spearfishing, with the next generation? As parents of the next generation, teaching sustainability and a balanced approach to life, in a time of chaos is challenging, but so rewarding when your kids understand how food works. Cheers b thank you l, for my pwn fix. Awesome sauce of a video. Keep up the great work, thanks.🥐
Hey man thanks for the comment. I would get them started ASAP. Spearfishing has been the way of life for some villages for thousands of years. In some parts of the world, children start diving for food around the same age they learn to walk. I want to get my kids into harvesting and freediving around the same age haha. I might not let my daughter hold a loaded speargun but a spear pole would be a good place to start. Read this article, children can adapt near perfect vision if you get them to open there eyes underwater while they are young. @@PNWSamson thank you for all the info. My kids love to swim and find food, a trait I that is naturally passed on I believe. Having the ocean so close, we are so fortunate. Cheers, thank you for all you do in supporting sustainability and clean ups in the areas you visit. We need more forward thinking people like yourself. Keep up the great work😎
Another great video! I feel like I was there and I'm not ever wet, cold, or sore!
Haha thanks. Happy I gave some good perspective!
Great video Chris!
Thanks!
Great video as always man!
Thanks dude!
Congratulations on ur guys second baby!
Thank you! We are getting pretty excited!
What size and brand of wooden gun are you using. Did you switch to the pathos sniper 75cm since this video?

Great stuff as usual. Are you allowed to scoop up those uni (sea urchins)? Here in Japan they are a delicacy and pretty expensive.

My brothers birthday is march 1st 💯👌
