What travel dive bag would you recommend to fit spearguns, long fins (approx. 39 inches ), wetsuit, and all the other necessities of spearfishing. I love your enthusiasm for sustainability. If we all do our part the world will be happier and healthier. the selective nature of spearfishing never ceases to amaze me. " Take what you need, not what you can have."
100% and I couldn't agree more. I appreciate the comment! I love my mako backpack. It's durable and fits everything perfectly. All the gear you listed and then some. If you can ship to the states shipping is free over $100. Otherwise, to Canada, it's pretty expensive. www.divingsports.ca sells the same bag under a different manufacturers name though. So a few options!
Love the video, nicely done. Maybe you could explain your reasoning behind limiting the ling to one per person. I kind of feel that if I were to go on a charter, spending all that money and CO2 to get there, I'd want to retain my legal limit. Certainly if you can get in the water once or twice a week, one fish is lots, but if it's more of an annual trip, I'd want to get that fish vacuum packed in my freezer so I can enjoy it for months to come. Certainly the regular fishing charters aim to get their customers their legal limit and nobody feels bad about it. I know sustainability is very important to you, so I look forward to the reasoning behind it.
We take a maximum of 4 people. The possession limit in the area is 6. If each person harvested their limit on a two day trip we would be removing 24 Lingcod from the various reef. Anglers have a lot more depth to play around with but the majority of us who spearfish around here don't push 15m. That still leaves a lot of coastline but we don't want to put pressure on any of the areas. I'd have a hard time sleeping plus we want to lead by example. I understand what your saying but I'd rather bring home 1 Lingcod than 0. And if people don't follow best practices that will be the case.
Beautiful video, I really enjoyed it! As Matthew J. said the dark spots might be mating related. I've read that during mating season the males can go dark. I've never actually seen it myself.
Possible. I've seen the same thing on the females though. If you go to 7:08 on this video you can see an example. I've only ever seen that on greenling from this general area. th-cam.com/video/SoIonlotnhg/w-d-xo.html
Excellent trip. If people are unhappy with spearfishing charters it's because they are unaware of how selective it can be. More a sign of jealousy than anything else. Mike.
I think people are just protective of their area which I can appreciate. But at the end of the day we are running a tight ship. I think we are the only charter is Canada who doesn't allow participants to limit out. Plus, if someone wants to hit some remote reef off the west coast VS hitting East Sooke for the 50th time I consider that a win for the ecosystem. Again, it's all about spreading out and exploring imo. I don't even bother spearfishing in heavily populated areas anymore. To much pressure as is.
I use a 75cm. Most people do around British Columbia. Powerful enough for some range if the visibility is good and the fish are skittish but not to much power for hunting in rocks. It's a good overall size.
It depends on what province you live in and salt vs fresh. Many provinces prohibit spearfishing but it's fair game in British Columbia. Freshwater here is heavily restricted and we can't spear salmon but overall it's open season.
Very Good ! 👏👏👏👏🤜🏿🤛🏻
Thanks bro!
That was a wonderful video thanks for sharing it with your group ..
No worries! It's fun documenting all that stuff and a nice memory to have down the road.
Welcome back. Great conditions, beautiful, and amazing scenery. Congrats on the charter and they must be very happy with there experience.
Thanks man! And I believe they did. Couldn't have gone any smoother! Cheers
These spear-Os... Are heroes! Love the beautiful footage and selective harvest.
Haha thanks man!
Thanks a bunch for the footage, I had an awesome time with you guys on this trip. -Simon
Cheers man. Happy I finally got around to the editing. The Bermuda trip put me way behind haha. Thanks again for coming along man that was super fun!
Loving your videos! I miss the ocean
Thanks! I miss the ocean too and it's also been a few days. I feel for the landlocked ocean lovers. Hope you're reunited soon!
Love the music.
Cheers! Finding some good music is half the battle.
getting excited for all this i just got my self a whole kit ,picking it up Monday
Oh that's awesome! Super exciting. Be sure to grab a GoPro next! Haha
@@PNWSamson got that already :)
Fun!!!! to think I did not watch this video finding out I already commented. 😂
Great viz! What a fishy spot!
Yeah man we had some Steller conditions!
I still don't get people being mad about a spearo charter. Think of how many more fish a hook and line charter boat takes with 6-12 anglers.
Yeah man, they slay for sure. And don't hold back on their limits.

@@PNWSamson Thanks for the information. When you fly places and want to take your gear what travel luggage do you use to do this?

Another well put together video!
Keep them rolling!
Thanks bro! Just posted another haha
These videos are so interesting. Keep it up man! 👍
Cheers man, and I hope to!

I think the black mark means the greenling made a pirate mad.
Haha we'll go with that!
I think the dark spots on the greenies might be mating related. I’ve seen some fertilizing clutches in the past weeks
Possibly. I've seen the spots on males and female but that does seem possible. Cheers!
Loved this buddy!
Thanks bro!
i from brazil! nice video man....so, how do you use outfit? 5mm? water is cold in canda?
Awesome man! I'd love to visit Brazil. Thanks, happy you liked it! It's cold man, we dive in 7mm suits most of the year. How about you guys?
I saw a saddle on one of those tuna...
Haha I saw a bucket and a list!

What size gun are you shooting with mostly?
I use a 75cm. Most people do around British Columbia. Powerful enough for some range if the visibility is good and the fish are skittish but not to much power for hunting in rocks. It's a good overall size.
Were you gutting the fish in the water?
All over Vancouver Island. I try and go everywhere.
Hold on I thought spearfishing was illegal in Canada?
It depends on what province you live in and salt vs fresh. Many provinces prohibit spearfishing but it's fair game in British Columbia. Freshwater here is heavily restricted and we can't spear salmon but overall it's open season.
