I dove Your Favorite Fishing Spot - Vancouver Island, BC #fishing #pnw #britishcolumbia
2024 sure went by fast, the years keep on zooming by faster and faster. Oh well, just more the reason to live it up while we can. Fred invited me out with a group to go dive Porlier Pass, which is a high currant passage between Galiano Island and Valdes Island in the southern Gulf Islands. The visibility wasn't anything to write home about, but the diving was amazing regardless. Lingcod, rockfish, scallop galore, and some crazy swim throughs. I also found a nice mussel bed and did a solid cookout on new years eve!

I Found your Fishing Tackle - Nanaimo, BC #pnw #fishing

I often have a list of potential dive spots just waiting to be scratched off. Not often do those dive sites pay dividends, but the odd time, I strike gold. I finally explored Rocky Point, in Nanaimo BC after years of procrastination. I was told it would be a good spot for fishing lures but I didn't think the diving would be nice so I put it off. Thankfully, not only were the rumors of fishing g...

      Depends on the area. Around Vancouver it's closed 365. Some places in British Columbia the season is from May 01 - Sept 30 and other places from April 01 - Nov 15th. Yeah, I heard Washington is pretty tight when it comes to spearfishing specifically. I believe the season is longer for anglers right?

    I don't like the 360 footage either. I shoot a lot of 360 with X4 and the GoPro Max. Let me clarify - I don't like the 360 footage as you have shown. But what I do is crop in and take the composition and framing that I like - and render a video that way. Then, unless you tell somebody it's 360, they think it's single lens footage because you have eliminated the pulled out, dizzy 360 look. I prefer to select for my viewer, what shots I think are the best. But if I post 360 on TH-cam, TH-cam doesn't let you pull out anywhere close to a globe yet one can (with their mouse) rotate around the 360 to what they want to see. Nothing is dizzy about that because the framing is forcibly cropped, assimilating a linear to wide frame angle (that's changed by the center mouse wheel).

    • @PNWSamson
      @PNWSamson 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, definitely some trial and error involved. I appreciate your feedback and perspective. I think the quality reduction I see when I crop underwater footage is due to the low light conditions in our dark green ocean. I probably dive in some of the toughest conditions around. I don't notice the quality reduction as much if I film above water. I posted one 360° clip. I like to edit my videos with music and tell a story. With the insta360 software, you're very limited to what you can do with 360° exports. I don't want to invest in Adobe.

      @@lukejolley8354 sanitary closures are usually around industry, marinas and waste water treatment plants. I likely wouldn't be harvesting in proximity to them even if they were testing. But yes, the DFO err on the side of safety. There are still many open areas outside of the lower mainland.

    Further inland, I find that fishermen are often losing more lures to the large amounts of tangled line than they are to the snags. Especially withe braid since it breaks down so slowly. I never use line that is too strong for me to break by pulling hard, in this manner it usually breaks at the knot... when one is forced to cut the line it results in massive tangles in the water, that aren't good for anyone.

      Yeah good call. I did a cleanup off the ucluelet pier once. A bunch of dock lines had fallen off the dock and were resting on the bottom. We found tons of squid jigs that must have been snagged on the ropes. I'd imagine braided line at depth would be doing the exact same thing. Apparently they do make biodegradable monofilament. It's a little more expensive and has a shelf life but you can get a solid year out of it. Seems like a good idea.

    Your video is editing is fine. Especially in the context of picking up lures. Good little montage, action clips. Personally think the overall tone is a good. I literally jumped from my tv to my phone to comment don’t beat yourself up. (Positive feedback? Ewww right?)

      Haha thanks dude! I appreciate the positive feedback. Maybe I just don't find editing the clean ups very exciting. It seems my audience feels otherwise. Apparently there is a niche for fishing lure diving haha.

    So if you care so much why not remove the more hazardous harmful line and not focus on only the valuable lures. 🤔

      @@benjaminaxselholm in that video, I removed a drone, plastic bag, lanyard, fishing net, a broken fishing rod and over 60 lures from the ocean. Many of those lures had a plastic film over them. I also grabbed a bunch of fishing line. Many lures had broken off at the knot but I grabbed as much line as I safely could while solo freediving.

    Cool , jigged up’s net once . I’ve always felt bad about loosing lead jigs in the ocean

      Nice! That's a pretty solid catch. And yeah, me too. It's crazy that virtually every lure out there will inevitably be on the bottom one day.

      Imagine what the bottom of Porlier would look like? Or spots greater than 100'. Those spots would never have been cleaned. Crazy!
