Lucky day for that first rockfish! Its wild, you cant really tell underwater when theyre swimming as a school but theres serious size differences in those groups of rockfish. Gotta be slective tho while still considering the "BOFFS"
We live on Island and love to snorkel and scuba dive...but the truth is that we've done neither here around the Island, only tropical places. Was this Tofino area? This is something we'd love to get into!
This is not Tofino, but the island has lots of good diving/snorkelling all over. Lots of great spots on the east coast of VI and also the gulf islands. Check out the Facebook group Freediving BC it’s a great resource for info on diving locally and finding dive buddies. Also happy to answer any questions shoot me a dm on instagram 🤙
haha thank you! I bought that grinder for like 15 bucks from some guy on fb marketplace! Got it just to make a coffee montage but it still works great considering its from the early 1900s😝
Great edit! Wow, I'm not getting reincarnated as a black rockfish anywhere around you! Having a professional chef to cook up your catch on the beach, that's living the life!
Hey there 👋🏽The most practical reason is that it’s easier to do it in the water, saves you a mess if you were to do it later on, or indoors somewhere. Second reason is that while you spend time on the surface gutting and cleaning the fish you are ensuring to get more than a good breathe up - when you’re doing drop after drop looking for fish, say you’re doing minute long dive, you would have to make sure to rest and breathe up for 2 minutes to make sure you’re getting your O2 and CO2 levels back to normal. Those 2 minute waits can get pretty boring just floating there twiddling your thumbs 😂 So when I catch a fish I’ll notice that it will take me like 4-5 minutes to clean the fish, making sure you have enough O2 and expelled all the c02 buildup for a safe next dive. Another couple of reasons is the overall quality of the meat, there’s a lot of bacteria in fish guts. And lastly but also important is returning organic material to the reef so that it goes back into the food chain. Oh also it could serve as chumming the water to draw more fish in. Sorry for the essay, I hope that answers your question😊
Hey that’s cool and all but maybe don’t show where you go just out of respect to people that lives here ...to not blow out the spot. Little safer if you freeze your fish first if you wanna eat raw rock fish bud ..... little wormy 🪱
That was awesome. That one black rockfish took the spear for his buddy. That was comemorable!

@@WatermanSurin true man. But then the bottom trawler goes by and scoops up the entire school. 😒
So cool seeing a big fish mouth from the view Ethan showed. And the colours underwater were amazing 😍😍
Beyond words. Love watching it man!

Bet that waters a little chilly.
it sure is! Not too bad with the wetsuit though. You feel it getting colder the deeper you get for sure.
fishing great but ... where you get that coffee grinder? great video!

hahaha.. yeah It was pretty great :P
O snappp you gut it underwater too! That’s intense lol I just bought a spear fishing knife. Haven’t got a chance to use it yet
Newbie here. Why gut the fish in the water? Keeps it fresh?

@@WatermanSurin Appreciate the detailed answer, thanks. Coherent reasoning, I'll do the same when I get in the water.
Bigfoot on get yo ass
