As groundbreaking as the original version was, something about this feels so perfect. Like this is how it perhaps always should've been. The song has aged like a fine wine. Andy is a boss.
You are right. I used to have this on loop when it was first released on youtube and made a couple of gaming videos with the original as the background 10+ years ago. But this is my fav version out of all of his live versions including the original. This is how it should have been with the others as a cover to spice it up. Fine wine is the perfect analogy.
Same man. The original version was rough, but this one is magical.
I feel as they all tend to flow a little more freely nowadays.
The original was a fly-over song on the album, for me. I never took note of it. This, on the other hand....yeah this is what the real song sounds like
Because the intro groove now is much better. The original one wasn't my favourite. Now the intro is funky like in Ebon Coast. I love it.
I feel like he’s not just a musician playing an instrument. He’s more of a magical wizard summoning interdimensional tone fairies.
This is probably one of the greatest guitar performances of all time.
This will forever be a staple of acoustic guitar as a whole. This guy changed the game.
for sure
I thought it was a mere intro and he'd then start the song at the beginning but holy shit the transition from fingerpicking to his fretboard tapping, I did NOT expect that to happen so fluently, heart stopped for a moment, what a goddamn genius.
Dude ........its Andy Mckee
Stuff like that happens on the fly for him
he did the same thing in Blue Liquid Towards the End
This is his world
This Song was the main reason y i started to play guitar 14years ago
How lucky is that guitar to be played by Andy Mckee!
LockedInTheZoo his 15 grand greenfield
Didn't he help design that guitar??? Also the greenfield rylynn is on of his signature guitars by greenfield
This will always and forever be one of my favourite guitar tunes
Even years on with a little twist it’s amazing.
How technical this song is, blinds the amazing dynamics andy is showing us.
IT IS JUST MINDBLOWING how andy is expressing this song his song in his own way
Beautiful song Andy Mckee.
fucking love that andy always seems to say thank you with his head to the fret
I like how he started playing the guitar more traditional and slowly went into the finger style drifting that we all remember from a decade ago
That part @ 0:50 is beautiful. Man, such a simple and small part of a song that just takes me to a different place. I love this guy.
Oh my god!! This version is the best, just wow!
Try "fay ehsan drifting"
@@betmen2010 that's not even close to what Andy plays here.
Oh my God, what an amazing performer. Even putting aside the insane amount of skill and practice it takes to do this, it's still unbelievable. His touch is soft when it needs to be and very heavy when it doesn't, the dynamics in this song are just as gorgeous as the melody
This may be the most beautiful string playing I have ever heard.
Each time he improves this tune I think, This is it. It can't get better. And then he proves me wrong with a version like this.
I just saw him a few weeks ago, and have been a long time listener. This version is by far the best. What an incredibly gifted man...
Andy is the type of guy to put out a masterpiece composition and then find 10 ways to improve it immediately after. He makes it look so flawless and easy when he's up there doing his thing. Big time respect
I'll echo some of the comments here. I remember being taken aback by this song and Andy's style (even though I'd seen Stanley Jordan do this type of work YEARS ago) when I first saw it. It was nothing like I'd heard before. As others have said, this is an improvement over the original 'Candyrat' video. I say this because I believe that the fact that he is using an amplified acoustic makes a whole lot of difference. I find the bass notes much deeper and resonant while the higher notes are crisper and clearer. The vibrato he applies to the chords in the 1:56 - 2:10 mark are a nice little nuance that brings out just a little bit more in the melody.
Legend
I hope that guitar is at least 18 years old.
Brad Hendry
Damnit you got me there XD
omg...hilarious!
she is barely tone
Haha haha so funny so funny
Lmfao took me a minute
best version I've seen ...and that guitar sound just great
a true virtuoso being called that is the highest compliment any musician can ever attain.
the difference is he performs all this stuff and he makes it look so easy.
Keep coming back to this !
Love the slight shift from percussive to just the music.
For some reason I recognized he's wearing a Bob Ross shirt behind that guitar. I only know because I have the same one and recognized the text font. It says, "No Mistakes, Just Happy Accidents." Somehow fitting for Andy McKee
Me:
00:20 - hey, it's drifting! I love the song! nice version!
00:30 - I think i can play this version!
00:40 - Daaaammmmiiiiitt McKee!!!!!
Full of emotion and accumulation of thoughts.
That's an awesome performance of an awesome tune!
And man is that action low!
Back to the past time...still amazing to listen
One of my favorite Guitarist.
was so damn lucky to see andy perform live in scotland was browsing for tickets to see who was playing live just out of bordom then i saw he was playing never bought tickets so fast in my life
This takes me back. Thank you for the wonderful music and memories, Andy.
Many fingerstyle guitarists out there. But as far as I know Andy McKee is the best.
Beautiful!
This version of Drafting is the best I have ever heard until now.
Check him out live if you ever get the chance to. It's even better in person.
What a performance
blessed
Legend as always ❤️
This guy is a LEGEND!
This is pure magic! Never gets old
That was mesmerizing.. Brilliant performance
Bloody incredible
Andy.... where do I start with this tune. It took me about 3 years to learn how to play it properly and I've been playing since I was 5. I took this tune to a local gig down in south Wales called "the last Friday club" in Cymaman, Aberdare. This was when I was a university student and knew nothing about life... and the people there appreciated this song no end and to this day is has remained so close to my heart. What a song and thank you Andy.
I love the evolution of this piece!
Best version!!
amazing. I really love this version.
Brilliant 🥇
Such a good version of this classic! Was great to see in Copenhagen the other week, Andy!
I've listened to this song since Andy's first version, and to see how much he has tweaked it since the beginning is amazing. He has put so much into this song and is such a talented musician. Props man.
This guitar is lit...as always
I love this introspective version ♥
Drifting changed my life and the perspective of how I took it. It's just amazing!
It's a great one to learn too if you're up to the challenge!
awesome!!!!
love this version without the opening taps...also love how a song is never finished; Andy's songs always seem to evolve with new grooves, taps, subtleties over time, when you watch newer versions they're always a little different...great stuff
The melodies are orgasmic. 👏
I love this song thx andy
heavenly
some people are just born to play guitar.
I still come back to listen to this. just beautiful
update I still do
Master !!!!!
This is like an acoustic version to the acoustic version. 👍🏼
come to Brasil!!!!!!!!!!!! We love you.
I saw a lot of people covering this song. But no one was able to play as well as Andy McKee
what a man..
Nobody in the whole world will achive playing that song with the passion you put in it. That´s why that is consider the most difficult song to play.
Matias Gabriel Melo so true
is it?
I always thought it was one of Andy's easier songs, but I totally agree with your first point.
Woww❤️
Es un grande
Amazing!!! This is my favorite version. It's the most convincing music piece I have come across.
Loved it.
Does anyone have the tabs for this version??
If you do then please send me.
Thanks
why isn't he drifting the way he's known to drift?
This is like one day mom makes some awesome dish and you ask for it again and she gives something else that you regret to have swallowed in the first place! Going back to that old video of his!
fantastic, some modifications needed on my version now
NICE
I've been practicing this. It's quite challenging.
At first I was disappointed because I thought he wasn't gonna play it the older way. This was great 👍
Wow....
Someone could tell me who is andy? Cause i'm so amazed
that sequential thre finger pulloff at 1:56 is masterful
still killing it. love this guys style. :)
OH My Godness
Good afternoon I've been playing the guitar since I was 11 now I'm 64 I am truly amazed how you are a great musician and the question that I have is that what tuning do you use mostly to play
🌸
Come to Viet Nam. I like this verson. Thank Andy....!!!
Those chords he plays during the intro remind me a lot of MJ's Human Nature. I really love this recording though!
My eyes: I got it!
My hands: No you don't!
DADGAD
The new intro sounds nice, I need to figure it out
Guitar was perfectly in kee.
It’s the Samwell Tarly of guitar!
Could almost be titled, "Drifting Part 2".
I want this version tabs
이 버전 악보 받고싶다
T O N E
Tabs for this new intro somewhere???
Started learning this a few years ago but then forgot about it. Took it up again last week. My biggest problem is getting the volume out of my right hand tapping. I've got a great guitar and my action is really good but for some reason it is tough to get sound out. It's like he either has a really good guitar or very strong fingers. Probably both.
Some of it is the equipment. He uses a pick up calld the KandK pure sound mini. It can help balance everything out a bit. Other percussive fingerstyle guitars use a blend of piezo and a magnetic coil pick up situated in the soundhole
It's the fingers! You just gotta practice to strengthen your muscles and build some calluses!
What tuning is this?
(I know Drifting is played in DADGAD, but I can't play with regular tuning to this version)
Alex Attabipour Drop halftone
lyrics please
He switched the tuning and key in this version im pretty sure. Anyone know what tuning or key this version is played in?
C# G# C# F# G# C#
Is there no sheet music for this version?
Yeah.
It's a tree.
😀
