Yo, 10 years ago when I first heard this I made sure to tell you you are amazing, but you already know this! I always return to this absolutely endless perfect performance to hear what I wanted to be. You achieved such a pinnacle of mellody and percussion, so there is no need to tell you you are there. Anyway, once more I am saying thank you for your art and passion to achieve this.

This video came out on my birthday and I'd just started playing guitar back then. It was such a huge inspiration that I started learning more and more about music. We're now celebrating ten years of this song (and my 27th birthday ahaha), I got a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, I recorded and released my own album and got my Master's in Music Education. This song truly changes lives.
@@jordanj9069 thank you ☺️ It's called Blue Times and the B-Side. I wrote all the music and performed all the instruments! You can check it out on my channel 😊
Laughed out loud when you started singing because I couldn't believe you were actually about to sing. How the hell can you even concentrate on everything you're doing with the guitar and still sing at the same time...? Incredible. Amazing song.
I rarely use the term masterpiece, since it's a watered down term people throw around carelessly. I found this song the year it came out and it planted a seed deep in my mind. Whenever I feel down, like the flower that seed grew into is withering, I come back to this song and it waters the soil, giving life to it again. It's a calm, beautiful but also extremely exciting song. To me, a masterpiece.
Remember when the video of the cover got so popular people started praising the guy who made the cover and he was like "wut?? I didn't write that! You thought I wrote that!?"
One of the most beautiful guitar compositions I have ever come across. In my honest opinion, you are probably the most original guitar player of our time. Your playing is so full of life and spirit, and what's incredible in my opinion is that, even though you have tremendous technical abilities, your music never strays into that "look at what I can do" territory, to which so many players succumb. I salute you, my friend. I am envious as heck, as well, but I am eternally grateful for the inspiration and the beauty you keep providing with your music.
Well said LicknRiff. In my opinion every tone or sound he does, he does to push the song and not his ego. And that is, what makes him great too. The song consists of unique melodies and harmoics that cover the unique technics.
@@renzo3939 dude what... lol. I love toes in but you know I think this is like beauty. Lol this is like the human experience. Idk m8. I Absolutely love both these guys' music. Holy shit man... I've been playing guitar for 11 years, seen all kinds of amazing guitar players in my lifetime, impressed by many, idolized a few, but this is the first time I've ever seen a guitarist incorporate constantly tuning and detuning keys in the MAIN riff of the song with such precision that the notes are not a single cent above or below the note.
TH-cam Comments Suck The detuning/retuning are made possible by the Keith Tuners (originally designed for banjo) which allow two preset notes per string. This is an amazing example of them being used on guitar. Clarence White, Waylon Jennings and others have used them too. Adrian Legg (UK guitarist) uses 6 of them!
Karol Vlogpl My comment had nothing to do with arguing about fingerstyle technique, which is quite fucking obvious. You jump in to point out the obvious and then top it off by saying "it's not that hard, I can do it, hold my beer" just to get attention? Calm down son.
Are you kidding me? This level of coordination is beyond my imagination. I haven't seen such an impressive peace of art in a long time if ever. Your brain must be an interesting companion.

people dislike because they can't relate. That's why they have something missing in their lives/souls or they're bitter and jaded having tried and failed to become artists thus not wanting to acknowledge uniqueness and naturally gifted/blessed people such as jon gomm whom are sharing love as oppose to spreading hate.
As I'm writing this, I'm still in loss of breath. This entire song is the most beautifully done and breath taking place of mind I've ever had. wow. very very well done.
This is how someone who learns music through self-discovery instead of books and teachers sounds at a competent level: unique and universal. When you forget everything you know and actually start searching for more and more pleasing ways to produce noise, you will eventually end up sounding both original and enjoyable..
There will always be a teacher, even if you're not asking for explicitly... Right now, this guy is our teacher. If you're offered a means of bettering yourself in some way, even if it's not the most convencional, make an effort to use it because the only one limiting us is ourselves
He learned music at a music college and I met him at the same college when he returned to do a masterclass there back in 2006ish. This guy is amazing but had plenty of 'books and teachers' along the way, nothing wrong with a 'real' education!
When you write something like this, you never have to write anything ever again and you'll still be one of the greats. This is beautiful, a contribution to humanity

PASSIONFLOWER By Jon Gomm "This song is about a plant I grew in my 10 feet square backyard in the Leeds inner city. I put the seeds in a tiny tub, but it grew like a Roald Dahl story until it took over the whole yard, then one day the sun shone extra hard and 100 flowers all went "Pop!" It was amazing, so I wrote a song for it"

You are indeed a true artist! I just listened to your songs on Spotify, and what a quality! Damn you set the bar high for everyone else, and the sound quality i crisp clear! You deserve to have 100x the plays you have now! Gonna follow your music and enjoying every moment of it🙏😊
Just wanted to let you know.
Have a lovely day! - your music made mine! 😉
I saw you play in the porter pub once in Bath 10 years ago. It was an awesome night and I spoke to you afterwards and showed you my Lowden O32 and you are a thoroughly nice bloke. Maybe you remember I have flaming dice on my neck and my friend Boo Perkins has his whole face tattooed he was there too 🍻
please put this version on spotify too! i love both but the fuzz on the guitar in this one is so good!
That’s so cool! What’s your album called!
@@jordanj9069 thank you ☺️ It's called Blue Times and the B-Side. I wrote all the music and performed all the instruments! You can check it out on my channel 😊

@templategaming275 your a fool to think that
This man could pinch a diamond into dust with those fingers.
Fun fact, diamonds are actually quite brittle. They are however extremely scratch resistant, but still more brittle than you might think.
@@Potatis1337 I actually didn't know that. Wow lol thanks for the facts.
I dedicate this song to my friend Brian Keen, he introduced me to Jon Gomm many years ago now, RIP Brian!
Laughed out loud when you started singing because I couldn't believe you were actually about to sing. How the hell can you even concentrate on everything you're doing with the guitar and still sing at the same time...? Incredible. Amazing song.
Jon uses every single part of his brain.
The secret is that he doesn't concentrate on it; he lets it flow through him
And he sings too! Sweet jesus!
That was my thought when I first heard him. As if his playing wasn't impressive enough.
I wonder how he keeps the beat
I Think vocals are overdubbed...there is a high vocal part and a low vocal part. Am i wrong?
@@degreplayspiano I think he runs the vocals through an octave pedal here.

To me, a masterpiece.
and it’s wrote after a plant too. damn.
Samesies, except you lashed out the poetic articulation 🤣
Same here :)
First heard this when it barely had a few thousand views and I come back regularly, what a masterpiece.
Remember when the video of the cover got so popular people started praising the guy who made the cover and he was like "wut?? I didn't write that! You thought I wrote that!?"
Playing 2 melodies + drum beat + awesome singing = Jon Gomm. Simply amazing~!
Valerian Aldo + bass
And bending the pitch! Crazy
+ dancing
My non musician mind i just wonders HOW!!! And loved it.
He needs nothing else to make a full harmonized song, what a *genius*
One of the most beautiful guitar compositions I have ever come across. In my honest opinion, you are probably the most original guitar player of our time. Your playing is so full of life and spirit, and what's incredible in my opinion is that, even though you have tremendous technical abilities, your music never strays into that "look at what I can do" territory, to which so many players succumb. I salute you, my friend. I am envious as heck, as well, but I am eternally grateful for the inspiration and the beauty you keep providing with your music.
You please make 'thousand years' by fingerstyle lesson.please
Well said LicknRiff. In my opinion every tone or sound he does, he does to push the song and not his ego. And that is, what makes him great too. The song consists of unique melodies and harmoics that cover the unique technics.
tosin abasi is more original imo
@@renzo3939 dude what... lol. I love toes in but you know I think this is like beauty. Lol this is like the human experience. Idk m8. I Absolutely love both these guys' music. It's hard to say who's what. His music is more methodical and rhythmically insane lol tbh. Idk. John's music is like more tribal and earthy idk how to explain. But both are musicians I'd strive to be more like. Hope you see the depth of this song.
i have the "look at what i can do" attitude. lol. Its the source of my fire.
The most encouraging and discouraging thing I've ever seen. Fuck.

It's just art, man.
This guy is seriously so unbelievably talented. Enjoying this piece of art for the first time.
Yep, that's the beauty of having absolute pitch.
Akis Mylordos He flipped my mind with that one too.
Akis Mylordos Thats fingerstyle Percussive its not hard but you need how to slap or something else
Karol Vlogpl My comment had nothing to do with arguing about fingerstyle technique, which is quite fucking obvious. You jump in to point out the obvious and then top it off by saying "it's not that hard, I can do it, hold my beer" just to get attention? Calm down son.
“You can’t be in a band with yourself”
John Gomm:”Hold my beer”
He could even hold his beer while he plays!
@@BereGoar lmao tru

This video was posted almost 10 years ago and it's still one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. I absolutely love this song so much, and the video really shows how much passion was put into it. What an incredibly talented human. 12/10 every single time.
Hard to believe that some 'people' have had the audacity, nay, the blind and deaf ignorance and stupidity to thumbs-down this incredible talent.

He's using Eb, G, F, Bb, G, Eb (From low to high)
@@sandipanroy2202 It's not correct, what I see it's Bb, G, F, Bb, G, Eb. Besides, you reversed the order of the strings - correct is Eb, G, Bb, F, G, Bb. Because the low string is the thickest one.

I couldn’t have said it better myself, well done dude
The art this guitar has been created into could not be factory replicated
Don’t be in awe of the guitar. Full stop. It’s got nothing to do with the guitar.
people dislike because they can't relate. That's why they have something missing in their lives/souls or they're bitter and jaded having tried and failed to become artists thus not wanting to acknowledge uniqueness and naturally gifted/blessed people such as jon gomm whom are sharing love as oppose to spreading hate.
I hope that guitar is 18 years old.

Every so often I come back to this video and am amazed all over again.
This is how someone who learns music through self-discovery instead of books and teachers sounds at a competent level: unique and universal. When you forget everything you know and actually start searching for more and more pleasing ways to produce noise, you will eventually end up sounding both original and enjoyable..

It was amazing, so I wrote a song for it"
