  • Cherry shrimp are the second most bought shrimp in the world with the number one spot going to the Amano. They are delightful little invertebrates who need a stable and mature aquarium, but are much more tolerant of conditions compared to some other shrimp varieties.

This is the best cherry shrimp introduction video on TH-cam - comprehensive, engaging, and accessible. Very well done.

Started off with 5 yellow fire shrimp and 5 bog standard shrimp in a heavily planted 15 UK gallons aquarium. Now, having never added any more, they have indeed multiplied to hundreds and far from being just 2 colours have a rainbow of colours. Many of the brown ones have the fire yellow stripe along their backs. But the most amazing thing is that there are blues, reds, blacks, rilis, yellows, greens, whites as well as clears and browns in there. Occasionally I dip in randomly with my net and remove some, but only into my 37 UK gallons low boy community tank. Some of which do survive the ravenous appetite of my paradise fish and guppies and endlers.
Love the content of your videos! Your channel is one of the most informative. Thank you

I was just looking around on the internet since this is going to be my first time keeping a cherry shrimp (or color variation of that variety) tank. it's an 8 gallon and I got two gold shrimp and one blueberry shrimp there today. I have some zoo med tablets to drop down if i need to, but i have so much biomatter on my plants currently i think they'll be good for now. Tank is a 8 gallon top fin waterscape that cycles through red, blue, yellow, and green Led lights. I am thnking about getting three more gold or blueberry shrimp when i get paid next if i have the funds for them, since I don't know what gender the ones i got were.
Thanks again for having such a great video.

Very good video. Enjoyed it tremendously. I enjoyed the information and the photography. I look forward to your next video. Glad I subscribed a few months ago. I have cherry shrimp in a Fluval Spec V 5 gallon tank with Ember Tetras, 2 or 3 Amano shrimp and 3 pygmy Cory's. You should see how the whole tank jumps into action when I dump in newly hatched brine shrimp. I'm planning on setting up a 7.5 gallon tank to start a colony. Thinking of using chili rasboras or exclamation point rasboras as tank mates.

I really wish I could be one of those lucky enough to say breeding them is easy 🤣 Great video though. I am still waiting on them after quite the learning curve since I am new, finally got steady PH of 7.6, all forms of Nitrogen read 0 because all hail frogbit 🤣 Temps 25 C KH=107.4 and GH 161.1 There is plenty of algae and biofilm thanks to my slowly decomposing grapevine branches I collected from trimming them last year before winter, and I even tried catapa leaves for fun which in all honesty I feel may have benefits but to compare to grapevine leaves they seem to do nothing since my shrimp were going wild on grapevine leaves. Hell today I even tried some alder cones which tinted the water most visibly, making that rotala bonsai pop even more, but hopefully it will help the shrimp figure out how to breed. I wish I knew what else to check, but I do have 2 ottos in there, 3 kuhli loaches, 3 hillstream loaches which may be bad according to all the things I heard for breeding even if they seem to coexist very peacefully. Unlike many people I dont have heaps of plants or established tanks to throw my fish in to see if it solves the breeding problem. Thanks though for the video, maybe all I need is to find a way to introduce a type of cyclops in there for food like i saw in your video 😅

Another great video Lauren. I find them quite hardy. Not as delicate as people think. I do breed and sell them. Amano shrimp are perfect companions for them. I have Cherry shrimp in a community tank. These are the low grade ones so not to bothered losing them but they are breeding fine. Plenty of cover and plants is a must though.

New keepers heed that last bit of advice:
Make sure your tank is ::well cycled:: before buying them. Shrimp already are very sensitive to transportation and could have little shrimp heart attacks due to shock so don't give them even more to worry about with the water not being ready. I know it's hard to wait but it'll be better for everyone.
Cycle the tank, test often, lots of plants 👍

I have some in a 3 gallon tank, I got them yesterday and 1 of the shrimps had babies. I’m a beginner but I think I can do it. Don’t recommend what I’m doing though, the tank has only been running for a week and I only added bottled bacteria to help cycle. I have tons of floating plants to help filter the water

Curious if your shrimp all survived.

@@mr.breeze7907 so far everything has been great. I got 13 adult shrimp 2 died, 1 the day after arrival (molting issues), the other recently (no idea what happened I only saw it after the snails started eating it). As far as I can tell all the babies are alive and healthy. I see molts all the time so no issues yet though I do overdose the tank with aqueon shrimp minerals just in case.
The floating plants definitely play a big part on their survival, I took the risk of not cleaning them off before adding them so they’d have a good source of biofilm (downside is they are too long to see much and I have serval species of microfauna and detris worms but it’s not an issue).
And I do weekly water changes with a turkey baster and jugs of water i pre dechlorinated, they don’t seem to mind that the water isn’t warm when it’s added in.
I feed them everyday day except one day I feed them instead of skipping so it’s 4 days a week. The eat fluval bug bits (they absolutely love that stuff it’s the only time I see all 11 of them), goldfish flakes and now spinach. Also I have Indian almond leaves in a bag and alder cones at the front for the babies.

A warning for people like me who only have one aquarium: RCS multiply like crazy ;) even in a tank that doesnt have many fish and is not overfed.. shrimp wont stop reproducing and they always find stuff to eat in an aquarium. You need a solution for when you have way too many.
