All Microtech does to keep the twang down on the Ultratech is a little bit of grease on the spring. Clean that grease off, it twangs. After the first time I cleaned and oiled my first Ultratech, it started ringing when operated, just like the cheapest knockoff. Turns out, the oil had washed just enough of that grease away to allow the spring to ring. Twangyness obviously isn't a great sign of quality or attention to detail, but a ringing spring doesn't necessarily tell you anything about the quality of a knife. I've found the best way to make almost any double-action OTF sound totally solid: take a twist-tie from a loaf of bread, cut it down to a little bit shorter than the spring, then just put it in from one end, so it sits completely inside the main spring. Works great, plus it doesn't wash away like grease can. My Lightnings and my Microtechs all make a very quality-esque "thwack" sound, without a hint of ringing.
You Tube sales folks like this gentleman often find great deals. Many of them are for real. Normally, if it's a good find for consumers the product gets a rush and the link is no longer available or the product is sold out. No skin off the You Tuber's nose, He got his cut of the action and moves on. Keep them coming. Sometimes we get lucky
A top tip for a clone that gets spring twang. A nice blob of grease on the spring inside do be shy you want it big enough that it touches the inside casing because that is where the spring is vibrating against, it stops it making the cheap sound 👍🏻
Yep, people are paying $400 for a blob of grease and thinking they’ve got something special. Sometimes clones and replicas are a bit unethical, but when companies can produce them for 90% less and get about the same product it’s the original companies being unethical imo.
Both of the knives mentioned are really good low cost OTF's. My kid has a Lightning Elite that I gave him for his birthday (which are now out of stock :( ) 2 years ago that he carries as a daily beater, and it's held up really well also.

The Titan twangs because there are duel springs that rattle together. I put a piece of folded paper between them and pretty much completely got rid of the twang and made it sound more legit.
“That’s not a Microtech bro”...lmao...these clones are getting pretty good..my first OTF was a $30 Lightning OTF..at that time I thought OTFs were more of an adult fidget toy than an actual useable knife..it has the same harmonics as your Titan.when you hold it in hand it is clearly a bottom of the line type of knife yet to my surprise,it has held up surprisingly well as my work knife..it’s cheap enough I don’t care if I break it,lose it or someone steals it..after having the Lightning OTF for a few months I decided to buy a higher quality OTF and that is when I found RavenCrest Tactical.at the time I wasn’t aware they were just rebranding DH Gate OTFs but I got mine for $70 and I don’t regret it because the shipping was much faster and it has a “lifetime warranty” so as long as RavenCrest is a thing,I can send it in if it ever messes up and they will fix it or send me a new one...I carried it for a while and I decided I had enough examples to know OTFs can be dependable knives so after watching a few Microtech Ultratech torture tests,I pulled the trigger and dropped $300 on a turquoise Ultratech with black blade and hardware,it has a drop point blade in 204p blade steel(basically an American version of M390)..she is a real beauty and it has the snappiest action...it’s a lot lighter than the RavenCrest which was surprisingly heavy..204p is far better than the 440c of the Lightning and RavenCrest..the milled anodized aluminum handles of the Ultratech is far better than the cheap painted cast aluminum handles of the Lightning and the cerekoted aluminum handles of the RavenCrest...so is the $300 Ultratech worth it when you can find much cheaper options?to me it is worth the $300 but I’m a knife collector.Ive spoiled myself with these amazing “super steels”...with that being said,I’m not a knife snob by any means and unlike a lot of people who own a Microtech,Benchmade,Guardian Tactical,Heretics,Piranha,etc I’m not gonna act like it’s my duty to shit on cheaper options just because they are made in China and aren’t authentic..the truth is,their are so great options available for much cheaper than Microtech,Benchmade,etc,etc and as long as you aren’t a brand whore you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a good OTF for under $100...I honestly can’t believe Benchmade has found any success in the OTF market,not because they aren’t made good but because they use D2 steel in the Infidel and then have the nerve to sell it for $400+...nothing against D2 but if I’m spending that kind of money on a knife it better have S30V at the very least...this Microtech Cypher clone this man bought on Amazon looks like a great option at just $35,in all honesty,I highly doubt you will find better at that price

i have a titan otf, and ive had it for a few months, its a great budget EDC knife, i got mine from grindworx- i work where you're using your knife everyday, and its held up great, it may not be high end but its worth what its price is, you cant always expect $100 out of $35, but its still a good reliable knife
Ironically, I've been curious about OTF's for a while and purchased the same model before seeing your review. As a basic OTF or clone, I really like it. I thought the review was good and interesting, but might would be better if you could go into why it makes the "Twang", and possibly economical models versus cheap don't waste time or money clones. The only thing that concerns me with the clone is the strength of the blade and how sharpe the clone blade actually is or how shape it comes right out the box new
It really depends on what you get I bought one that would shave and dropped it chest down on a piece of plywood and it stuck. But a couple down the road the otf blade pushed in and would not function. Its all about what batch you get
Most of these clones are in 440c stainless...you can sharpen them up nicely but the edge retention of 440c leaves a lot to be desired..as for strength,as long as it has a decent heat treatment,the locking mechanism would probably break before the blade itself...with that being said,some of these cheap OTFs have a much better lockup than I originally expected but if you want guaranteed durability in a high quality OTF it’s gonna run you $250-$300...go watch some Microtech Ultratech torture test videos,the torture test videos are what finally sold me on Microtech though it was still hard to drop $300 on it but I don’t regret it
I bought a Titan and yeah it does feel garbage. For one thing, it's heavier than it should be for it's size and it feels too thick for it's size. I also bought a Clone of the Lightning and THAT clone felt better in my hand, the switch is more flushed and fitted better

I have decently strong hands and never had a problem I have 6 clones and they’re all difficult …ther3s a good reason for that, you don’t ant that blade firing in your pocket…it’s like a built in safety ….that being said I’ve met a lot of people (grown men ) that had a problem firing it with ease and seize had to use two hands… the remedy believe it or not is simple…most found it much more difficult to retract than deploy …so we firgured out that making it easier is as easy as using the side of your thumb and get better leverage on top of the switch…hope that helps

Burke Wills if his Benchmade has a twang it must be a knockoff..I’ve never owned a Benchmade OTF but I’ve handled all their OTFs with the exception of the mini Infidel and none had the cheap twang sound..Benchmade makes a great OTF though I still prefer Microtech mainly because Microtech uses better blade materials than Benchmade offer in their OTFs..it drives me crazy seeing Benchmade charging $450 for the Infidel (their most popular OTF model) with a D2 blade when Microtech’s cheapest models the UTX-70,UTX-80,Exocet and Ultratech all come in Elmax,M390 and 204p..all these Microtech models come with far better steel options and all of these can be bought for $300 or less...Benchmade charges $350 for the mini Infidel with D2..they released the 10th anniversary special edition Infidel in S30V but that was a limited run

Im not trying to sound like some morally superior douche nozzle, but i personally wouldn't buy any knockoff knives simply because i consider any company or entity thats willing to steal someone else's design that they worked hard to make to be pretty slimy. If it comes down to cost there are a ton of real tested brands who make products that are far and beyond a better bang for your buck.
Unfortunately not legal in commifornia. But , not a fan of cheap knockoffs anyway. Majority of the value should be in blade steel quality and build. However it's pretty sweet that people that want an OTF for fun that don't want to pay a lot of money, because most quality OTF's are pretty damn expensive (microtech etc), can have one that doesn't suck and seems to be pretty well put together at least.

You can get the Microtech Exocet or the UTX-70 Cali legal edition with the 1.9” blade...I guess some people are ok with that but 1.9” blade is just too small for me..I honestly don’t like carrying a knife that is under 3”...them Cali laws are ridiculous,the government should’ve never been given so much power,on both federal and state level

Microtech just came out with an OTF under 2", which would be legal in CA... just an FYI.
