    I think I saw red lentils in your cupboard. You can make a very filling stew with them. I put red lentils, tin of tomatoes, carrots, onion, seasonings like chilli powder, garlic, ginger and enough stock to just cover the lentils in a big casserole dish. Cover with foil and whack in the oven for about 30 minutes until the liquid is almost absobed. I stir in frozen peas and sweetcorn near the end of cooking. You could freeze it in portions to pull out when you dont feel like cooking. I sometimes add cooking bacon to it as well or left over meat from a roast. Its delicious, stick to your ribs comfort food.

    Hey, I have a little life hack for testing if your eggs are still OK to eat. If you put them in water and they sink they are fine to eat, if the float to the top they are bad. Hope this helps 😊

      Yessss!! Older eggs develop air inside them, so the fresh ones always sink.

    👍🏼The way to check freshness is to put your egg in water. If it floats, toss it.

    You could fry off cabbage and bacon and onion and potatoes or make potato cakes with those ingredients.Also you could buy a full chicken and make soup, curry and a roast dinner. A good thing for colds is the ginger, lemon and turmeric. Another thing to help soup is get a piece of brown paper and when your sweating off the onion, garlic and carrot and celery wet the brown paper a bit and place on top of the veg so they carmalize and get brown and get a good colour and flavour. You could also make an upside down cake with the peaches by making a sponge on top.

    Dumplings would normally be made with suet as the fat and a much firmer texture dough you can roll into balls using your hands.
    Eggs in the UK are always good for a week after the best before date. If they are stamped with a lion mark as most are then they have been produced to some of the highest food safety standards in the world.
    Other countries have very different standards so there are bound to be many comments questioning if they are safe to eat.

    • @kjking66

      I do drop dumplings like the ones you did..add just a bit more flour and salt, make sure to cover the pot for approx 12 mins. I also make a firmer roll into balls type as well. 😊so many great ways to try. You can use lard as well

    • @CeridwenEdwards-mu2rw
      @CeridwenEdwards-mu2rw หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheBudgetFoodie yes i have made them with lard, beef dripping, duck fat, goose fat, butter etc... when i don't have suet to hand. I tend to chuck it in the freezer briefly then grate the fat. The taste and texture differs slightly from a traditional suet dumpling which always have a very light and fluffy texture.
      I also use suet for pastry sometimes, great for roly poly puddings (with savoury or sweet fillings) but also for a different texture for pies and pasties.
