Well done! Very inventive. In 2022, to get rid of the last of my debt, I set myself the challenge of living on £5 per week. For most of the year I suceeded and so the debt was gone. I also cooked on a stove top and used the oven only once per week to cut down on the electricity useage. Keep going - btw flatbreads are a life saver!
Not 3 meals a day, then...or any drinks, except tap water? Was there enough food for breakfasts? A total of £10 a week could provide some fresh fruit, tinned sardines, more cheese, as well as bread for breakfast toast and lunch sandwiches.
You are obviously a natural cook who knows how to make the basics from scratch. A skill which many of us, me included , don’t have but saves so much money! Really enjoy your videos they give much inspiration 😊
A few years ago, my son was in chronic pain. I started making EVERYTHING we ate from scratch, in order to cut down on additives, preservatives, etc, and seed oil. Even basics like bread, tomato sauce, mustard, mayo . We were in lockdown at the time😂. Apart from health benefits (?) it's astonishing how much I've saved.
You could probably get 2-3 egg fried rice with carrot, spring onion and paprika chicken seasoning and the have banana wrapped in flatbread for breakfast.A fabulous effort as usual.
I don't know how you come up with your ideas! Super creative! I've been on my budget journey since March now and I've paid off over 1k of debt already (I'm on a super low income) so really proud of that... I'd love to save a bit more on food shop my cooking creativity is a zero 😂
As someone who is an unconfident cook, on a mission to become more comfortable in the kitchen, this has really inspired me, honestly. It's the thinking outside the box bit that I don't seem to naturally have.. piecing things together to make a meal. You have it in spades and I can really learn something from your videos. Thank you!!
This is the first budget video thats actually inspirational. Whilst Id need fair more veg vs no flour or rice, the inginuity of your meals is fantastic.
Absolutely brilliant ❤ well done. For £10 enabling you to buy a small quantity of meat and some blackberries foraged from local hedgerows in July, dandelions picked in the garden for both tea and essential vitamins in the leaves, a visit to any local allotment will likely generate a few freebies to take home too. Brilliant video !

Yeah, same goes for Australia. E we don’t have those super cheap out of date sections in supermarkets any more, so it’s just a matter of looking for whatever’s cheapest. And no hedgerows, though it’s spring, so dandelions are young and tasty.
these are great to watch, especially as a struggling uni student! love the inspiration for the cheap food ideas. just a suggestion if its something you would be interested in, rather than cows milk, you can get soya milk for about 50p per litre! my favourite is the unsweetened kind from lidl as the aldi ones split under hot temperatures. i only use it to make my coffee less bitter in the morning with a few evening drinks such as tea, so the whole bottle lasts about 10 days usually. it just works out better financially for me but i know some people arent a fan off soya milk. great content either way, excited to watch more!

You could do flat bread pizza. Blizt some of the tomatoes into a puree & use the mozzarella & maybe some of the seasoning or spring onion or herbs. Whatever you like really. I've never liked porridge, but thought about rice pudding as a breakfast with fruit & places like Norway have it as a breakfast. Your strawberries won't take years to produce fruit. You need to feed them & your tomatoes, if you aren't doing already. (Sorry, I don't know how much you know & I'm not a professional myself, but have grown them in the past) You can get tomato feed quite cheap from B&M or home bargains & it will do for all your herbs, strawberries & tomato plants. @@TheBudgetFoodie Aw bless you😄 I didn't know if you already knew or not. Try not to burn the flat bread if you do make pizza. I did some in a frying pan & then put it under the grill to melt the cheese & cook everything on top once the bottom was done. My friend does them in the air fryer. I've not tried them in the oven, but guessing they should work ...it's only the same as an air fryer🤷♀️ Have fun
Never heard of shortcrust pastry with just lard. I love making shortcrust and usually do half butter, half lard for savoury things and just butter for sweet things. One thing i would definitely get on a budget challenge is gram flour (chick pea flour), good protein and just add water (and seasoning if wanted) for delicious wraps.
This was amazing! I think I’d be making one of those flatbreads into a pizza using the tomatoes and mozzarella 😍 very inspired, thank you for a great video.
Well done with the frugality week, great results. I don’t precook my pastry in my quiche, I use half fat to flour rubbed in for a base then put in bits of cooked bacon onion tomato, then 4oz grated cheeses and finally mix 2 eggs with 1/4 pint of milk n poor it over then cook for 30-40 mins; used same recipe since I did it at school lol. You have inspired me to meal prep again.
This is what should be taught in schools. How to make economical healthy meals since not every child had a great Mum like you who passed on her skills to you. (Meat is expensive and not always required - Have not eaten meat for three decades and I am still alive. Thank you for your effort to share all your cooking skills. Continue to grow your own herbs.
Very imaginative. Lots of good ideas, but my priority is to avoid white flour, and use organic spelt instead. It's more expensive, but tons healthier. Maybe something for some people to consider. Brown rice too has more nutrients. I grow most of my veg and also forage, lots of lovely berries around now. Bless you ❤
Hey Rechenda...that was ace!!😊 i love your videos, especially watching you being creative with recipes. In my weekly shop i enjoy seeking out the best value products and find that own brand rice and pasta etc are are a great saving with almost no sacrifice in flavour or quality...its all in our heads that knorr or uncle bens etc are better...just a little trial of own brand products with each weekly shop soon finds you making big savings, and i love that feeling. Cant wait ti see how everything turned out for you taste wise...those pasties looked lush!! 😊 Thanks, as always, for sharing. Love, Lou in Southport x
People fry with it too, is so braindead, low smoke point oil thats expensive and meant for pouring over salad or making uncooked dressings. People here have seen one Jamie Oliveoil cooking show and now they buy it to fry their bacon in.
Honestly u r a hero. So inspiring. Where was jack? Also sorry to hear ur mum passed.. I remember u filmed shopped with her 😢. On a positive I'm sure she would be so proud of u.... U helping so many people during the cost of living crisis.. U r great🎉
Hello Fellow Budgeter from southern Mexico on the Pacific side. When making stock the dried bits on the edible garden plants add flavor (every little bit helps) shame the potatoes had sprouted, potato skins also crisp up as you did the onion skins. All the best Jacques
@@TheBudgetFoodie Thanks for the kindly welcome. I'm glad to be of help. After 60 years of cooking, a bit of gardening, and a LOT of reading and experimenting in the kitchen.... well the brain is full and must be Milked (as John Milton Put it). when your first frost comes if you have a window in the kitchen you can keep the green onions going all winter. As one dies back I replace it with another one that has a bit of root coming out. Nothing wrong with relatively free scallions. Jacques Mexico
Hi! Have you thought about including dried lentils/chick peas into your shopping list in order to include more proteins in your diet? How about prices for lentils/chick peas in the UK? Both of them are very versatile and you can do a huge variety of recipes with them. (Salads, stews, burguers etc) Greetings from Spain!
Can also make hummus with chickpeas and today I roasted some with teaspoon of oil, salt pepper in air fryer (have jars canned from last year) and they are a great equivalent to salted nuts (we love them)
Very interesting - i love that you cook from scratch. A few years ago I started eating one High Protein meal a day - am only - my main meal consisting of :- a bowl of Root Veg' Soup, a large Salad with dressings + Cheese Fish or Meat, a slice of Olive bread or Pasta with Butter and a Dessert preferably with custard a piece of fruit & Matcha Green Tea or Rooibos Tea. Cooking once a day saves so much time and money allowing me to focus on other things. btw most people cut down to two meals a day. Eating early in the day means you utilise your food better and at night your body repairs instead of digesting an evening meal . Good luck with your endeavours ☯️♾️
Amazing! New subscriber here. Looks absolutely delicious. So inspiring! Tip for the mayo - I’ve made mayo before and I’m *pretty* sure it’s just an egg yolk with your fat. Can’t wait for more content 😊
Depends! We make ours regularly and use the entire egg because I hate having an egg white sitting in the fridge! You do need an acid though (we use lemon and vinegar) and it's about 1 cup of oil to 1 egg. 😊
Ive been binge watching too ❤ loving the content especially the clothing hauls and try ons x ive got no idea how to create a capsule wardrobe and i need to wear more colour xx
Another great video, thank you...and you should be proud of yourself you are very creative 🙏 Just a tip for anyone who may be interested or curious 🙂 Animal-based protein is very expensive and it's actually one of the reasons I went vegetarian 4 & a half years ago (never ever imagined I would!), was to save up money. And I just sort of stayed vegan in the end, and now save hundreds of pounds a year on my food bills which turned out to be good preparation for the cost of living crisis we are now in🤦♀😅 .....The cheapest (& healthiest) sources of protein are beans (chickpeas, kidney beans, etc), lentils, soy milk (no more expensive than dairy), tofu (you can find it much cheaper than meat and it's great if you learn how to cook it PROPERLY), nuts & seeds, porridge, wholegrains (rice, pasta, etc), and yes fruit & veg too! I buy a loose broccoli for example, and make multiple lunches with that & a simple tomato pasta👍 Even better if you're able to grow your own bits 'n' pieces! No need to freak out or worry about protein - I know society & the media fearmongers us about it but it's actually very easy to make up your daily requirement with 3 meals + snacks a day (only 45g avg for women if you're not an athlete😉). No judgement from me either way - hope this helps, whether you're vegan or vegetarian or a meat-eater or just keen on cutting down/saving, I just wanted to reassure anyone who was curious 🙂💚
I think you’re just fabulous!! I also think most us subs would want you to use whatever is in your home/kitchen including a little sugar or honey, salt etc. Just build one in the every other week haul or something like that lol it’s what one would do if we had to eat with such a low budget for any length of time. You’re mom would be so proud of the pastry🌸🌸
First time viewer. Very inventive. You are creative and talented.Long nails were distracting, though. Bit of a turn off in kitchen prep vids, or could just be my health care background.
Milk flour egg sugar makes pancakes/creppes. Can also add banana. Also good with rice in them. Flour egg makes pasta with some tomato +onion for sauce. Flatbread with some tomato and cheese can make a pizza. Egg milk herbs and cheese can make egg muffins. Great ideas. I really want to try similar since food is so expensive.
I've been binge watching you this last week. So relatable and raw. Your vlogs remind me of when jack Monroe started hers. Do you ever look at her recipes she ate cheaply for her and her son. Some recipes I still cook for my grown up son and I. I have nothing but admiration for you watching you navigate this.
I enjoyed watching you here it entertained me as well as educate me gave me ideas watching from Canada but was amazed that Tesco was so expensive as opposed to when I lived in Britain
@@isabellalucia7820 so you do not care about the poor hens welfare? Always worth paying more for eggs. Are you aware of the conditions the hens will be kept in?
Bit speechless after watching this video - it was amazing!!! So creative. Feeling really inspired now to challenge myself & try making some things. Thank you!
I came across this randomly and was intrigued and impressed. Iv always been a rubbish cook and I'd probably be sitting with those ingredients on the floor crying not knowing what to do 😂😂. You are so clever 😊
this looks ok for a week at a pinch but that kind of skimpy nutrition is not sustainable health wise, i must say in the present economic crisis no one seems to be getting their 5 plus a day but this is no way enough veges in this week and its lacking in fiber even with the beans, were apples not on special ?
Natural youghourt is versatile, mixed with milk & wholemeal flour and a bit of baking soda you can make Irish wheaten soda bread. Add on the side of spicy lentils for extra protein and calcium. Great film.
Another thing you could do with the pastry you could make a kinda of canzone pizza with the tomatoes, mozzarella and onion it's kind of a closed pizza.
You are amazing, i’m going to try this, as living on my own is expensive and you tend to waste food so i’m going to be very frugal, keep up the great work🥰🤗
Love this…. But seriously, if I needed to spend less, I’d be ditching the nails and upping my protein purchases! Besides, your own nails are lovely! Xx
Thanks for this, the first of your videos I have seen! The first time I tried eat for £1 a day, I decided not to include hot drinks. It went ok, but I also used a few bits of food I had in such as one egg and took it out of the allowance. My lasting memory is that I was so pleased I had enough veg left to make soup for the last meal and didn't have to eat the awful tinned budget veg soup! But I haven't been able to face tinned mushy peas since, my diet was a bit stodgy that week. I gave up the next attempt as my local supermarket had run out of cheap beans and cheap rice, and the idea of tinned carrots instead of beans failed. No veg by weight in my local supermarkets. I agree with all your reasons for doing it, and you have made more effort with cooking than I did. Inspiring! In fact, as I speak, the cheap tinned potatoes I have been meaning to use up are roasting!
6:05 Cheap olive oil costs 7 quid at Tesco? You can get a 250ml bottle for £3.30. Or else you could buy a litre of veg oil for £1.99. Otherwise you could buy a pack of butter for £1.89 and use that for both frying and spreading on bread/toast.
Well done! Very inventive. In 2022, to get rid of the last of my debt, I set myself the challenge of living on £5 per week. For most of the year I suceeded and so the debt was gone.
I made a pizza! And it was glorious
Or, better, scrounge the old/rotting veges from the supermarket / forage vegetable matter and compost your own plant food.
Yummy gram flour sounds fab x
That was so impressive and really interesting to see. Absolutely brilliant effort. Well done 😊❤
Thank you! X
This was amazing! I think I’d be making one of those flatbreads into a pizza using the tomatoes and mozzarella 😍 very inspired, thank you for a great video.
Sounds great!
Sounds lovely wish I had some bacon this week x
@@TheBudgetFoodie well u did amazing with what u had
@@TheBudgetFoodiecan you buy some crunchy bacon bits (when you see some cheap) which should keep a long time as are dried and in a jar?
❤wow great ideas thank you so much inspirational. Will be making my own rolls thank you and pizza base asive lots of strong flour and yeast
Wonderful! X
Awww nice. This was fabulous. Atomic shrimp vibes, I do love a budget food challenge.
Thank you so much 🤗 I love shrimpy x
This is what should be taught in schools. How to make economical healthy meals since not every child had a great Mum like you who passed on her skills to you. (Meat is expensive and not always required - Have not eaten meat for three decades and I am still alive. Thank you for your effort to share all your cooking skills. Continue to grow your own herbs.
thank you xx
Well done. Very inventive.
If you use pantry staples and price them pro rata then you will have greater variety.
Good idea x
Very imaginative. Lots of good ideas, but my priority is to avoid white flour, and use organic spelt instead. It's more expensive, but tons healthier. Maybe something for some people to consider. Brown rice too has more nutrients. I grow most of my veg and also forage, lots of lovely berries around now. Bless you ❤
Oooh I shall order some xx have you tired buckwheat flour? X
Thank you Lou! Xx
Absolutely brilliant!
Btw the olive oil dig £7000 a bottle 😂
Hahah it’s crazy right?! X
U r great🎉
I know I’m so sad about mum. Jack is still about! Will try to film him later xx
@@TheBudgetFoodieoh you have been incredibly brave Sweetheart. So brave. I am so sorry for you. 😔❤
Clever food ideas & probably a lot healthier than just buying pricier food items that you just put in the oven. Great video & had to subscribe 👍
Thanks so much! 😊
I'm absolutely astounded at how much food you bought for £6.90. Fabulous job!!!
Thanks so much! 😊
Hello Fellow Budgeter from southern Mexico on the Pacific side. When making stock the dried bits on the edible garden plants add flavor (every little bit helps) shame the potatoes had sprouted, potato skins also crisp up as you did the onion skins. All the best Jacques
Great tips and welcome Jacques x
@@TheBudgetFoodie Thanks for the kindly welcome. I'm glad to be of help. After 60 years of cooking, a bit of gardening, and a LOT of reading and experimenting in the kitchen.... well the brain is full and must be Milked (as John Milton Put it). when your first frost comes if you have a window in the kitchen you can keep the green onions going all winter. As one dies back I replace it with another one that has a bit of root coming out. Nothing wrong with relatively free scallions. Jacques Mexico
Great to receive your brain milk haha x
Hi! Have you thought about including dried lentils/chick peas into your shopping list in order to include more proteins in your diet? How about prices for lentils/chick peas in the UK?
Both of them are very versatile and you can do a huge variety of recipes with them. (Salads, stews, burguers etc)
Greetings from Spain!
That’s a great idea my Spanish resident friend ! X
Can also make hummus with chickpeas and today I roasted some with teaspoon of oil, salt pepper in air fryer (have jars canned from last year) and they are a great equivalent to salted nuts (we love them)
@@TheBudgetFoodiesorry meant to say, can also do them in oven
Interesting!
Amazing! New subscriber here. Looks absolutely delicious. So inspiring!
Tip for the mayo - I’ve made mayo before and I’m *pretty* sure it’s just an egg yolk with your fat.
Can’t wait for more content 😊
Oh doh! My bad xx welcome to my channel and I hope you enjoy my budget food adventures xx
Depends! We make ours regularly and use the entire egg because I hate having an egg white sitting in the fridge! You do need an acid though (we use lemon and vinegar) and it's about 1 cup of oil to 1 egg. 😊
Never thought of crisped onion skins! Too bad no vinegar for your slaw. Great job for full meal planning.
Ive been binge watching too ❤ loving the content especially the clothing hauls and try ons x ive got no idea how to create a capsule wardrobe and i need to wear more colour xx
You can do it! Xx
You could do jam tarts with the left over pastry, they keep well and it's fruit! I love listening to you, I'm gonna try on £7 a week!
Great idea!! Xx
Also mincemeat x @@TheBudgetFoodie
You are so imaginative. That was brilliant. X
Super!
Another great video, thank you...and you should be proud of yourself you are very creative 🙏
Just a tip for anyone who may be interested or curious 🙂
Animal-based protein is very expensive and it's actually one of the reasons I went vegetarian 4 & a half years ago (never ever imagined I would!), was to save up money. And I just sort of stayed vegan in the end, and now save hundreds of pounds a year on my food bills which turned out to be good preparation for the cost of living crisis we are now in🤦♀😅
.....The cheapest (& healthiest) sources of protein are beans (chickpeas, kidney beans, etc), lentils, soy milk (no more expensive than dairy), tofu (you can find it much cheaper than meat and it's great if you learn how to cook it PROPERLY), nuts & seeds, porridge, wholegrains (rice, pasta, etc), and yes fruit & veg too!
Great video😊try shopping every other week with 14pounds❤
Great idea!!
Thank you! Ok good to know xx I am craving coffee so bad
@@TheBudgetFoodie I bet! I’m coffee girl also🌸
You are amazing! Great imagination and cooking skills
Thank you so much
First time viewer. Very inventive. You are creative and talented.Long nails were distracting, though. Bit of a turn off in kitchen prep vids, or could just be my health care background.
Fair x
Milk flour egg sugar makes pancakes/creppes. Can also add banana. Also good with rice in them. Flour egg makes pasta with some tomato +onion for sauce. Flatbread with some tomato and cheese can make a pizza. Egg milk herbs and cheese can make egg muffins. Great ideas. I really want to try similar since food is so expensive.
Sounds great!
I remember doing this when it was all I could afford in 2016, living in a B+B. Potato's, bananas, porridge, tea, milk, pnb and bread was lifesaver.
Yes all the classics xx I will follow you! D
Hi can u do a video on the foraging as I only do blackberries and apples pears but would love to do more thanks.
I will check her out! Thanks so much for taking an interest in my vids x
Wow that's amazing ❤you should have your own program on TV
Just found your channel and am really enjoying it.
Welcome aboard!
Excellent! You gave me a lot of ideas to cook! Thank you.
I'm so glad!
Love watching your videos! ❤
I'm so glad!
I enjoyed watching you here it entertained me as well as educate me gave me ideas watching from Canada but was amazed that Tesco was so expensive as opposed to when I lived in Britain
Congratulations! You've gained a thousand subscribers in 24 hours! 👍👏💝

Wash your hands ! Your nails are loaded with bacteria.
Oh I wish you would put all your recipes online in an app so I can just have a look before shopping to see what I need or a book. This is brilliant.
I need to do this! Xx
And banana rice pudding with banana rice and milk yummm
So good
I never seen your vlogs before i really enjoyed it fab
Glad you like them!
Late to the party but the eggs - 😭 i would rather go without them than support the poor hens without any room to move.
It’s true :(
That’s her protein though. She couldn’t do this without it. Just the beans isn’t enough.
@@isabellalucia7820worth spending a little bit more on the eggs
@@isabellalucia7820 so you do not care about the poor hens welfare? Always worth paying more for eggs. Are you aware of the conditions the hens will be kept in?
@isabellalucia7820 Beans are enough. No need for eggs.
Bit speechless after watching this video - it was amazing!!! So creative. Feeling really inspired now to challenge myself & try making some things. Thank you!
Go for it!
Mint leaves boiled with potatoes are nice
Ooh love that tip x
Yes my Mum always did that. 😊
I came across this randomly and was intrigued and impressed. Iv always been a rubbish cook and I'd probably be sitting with those ingredients on the floor crying not knowing what to do 😂😂. You are so clever 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Haha xxx
this looks ok for a week at a pinch but that kind of skimpy nutrition is not sustainable health wise, i must say in the present economic crisis no one seems to be getting their 5 plus a day but this is no way enough veges in this week and its lacking in fiber even with the beans, were apples not on special ?
Yes it seems to be lacking nutrients I couldn’t get apples on the budget x
My nearest Tesco is an express store over 30 mins walk and it is very expensive.
some of us have to do this every week, every month, no end in sight.
I know it is an eye opener for me that’s for sure xxx
But then pay for power to cook this on. 😢
Natural youghourt is versatile, mixed with milk & wholemeal flour and a bit of baking soda you can make Irish wheaten soda bread. Add on the side of spicy lentils for extra protein and calcium. Great film.
Oh wow!! Xx
Carrots-12 pounds ???? lol
Whoops!! 12p
I think she meant 12p Haa.
??? Wow thought South Africa 🇿🇦 is crazy 🤪
Haha yes and olive oil £7,000!
U could've used just the egg yolk for the mayonnaise which would be thicker... and used the egg white to bind the burgers
Ahhhh
that's amazing, so cool to see how you made it go far! You could put a scrambled egg for protein in the last dish
Great idea!
You did an amazing job! Some of that fennel in those plain flatbreads would have taken them to the next level!
Thanks a bunch!
Another thing you could do with the pastry you could make a kinda of canzone pizza with the tomatoes, mozzarella and onion it's kind of a closed pizza.
When I was dirt poor - I lived on tinned tomatoes, cheese and milk and pasta. It all depends on how you mix it.
Ooh interesting x
You are amazing, i’m going to try this, as living on my own is expensive and you tend to waste food so i’m going to be very frugal, keep up the great work🥰🤗
Thank Pauline! You can do it xx
Apparently tinned potatoes are amazing! Well done with your efforts too. The home made veg soup sounded amazing x
