Genuinely a great deck tech. As feedback, I loved the talks through plays. So many deck techs or primers are just a list of combos of card inclusions without going over why cards are included. You guys really did a great job here. Can't wait for more.
I’ve been struggling with the “becoming the police at the table” problem you mentioned at the beginning of the video so much so that I just built kinnan instead. But after seeing woundeds decklist and listening to your break down I feel inspired to pick up talion again haha
Thanks for the deck tech. I have been trying different decks to see what I like. This was on my list to try. I am definitely going to sleeve this one up.
I briefly had a Talion control list in casual, then decided there was too much variance in numbers to reliably farm 1, 2, etc. despite extensive deck knowledge. This video has been great for polishing my Talion knowledge and I’m going to build it for cEDH.
I think my only disagreement here is not running city of traitors. Having another way to get to 4 mana quickly to get to Talion faster I think is worth going down on mana after you get Talion. If you get Talion out 1-2 turns quicker because you had that acceleration early is so strong. There are also plenty of games where I can get that t1 Cursed Totem or Weather Runestone against kinnan or Sisay because of the redundancy of having Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors. I understand there is a risk and you would rather it be Tomb so you can do Talion and then Sheoldred or what have you but, personally (obviously not an objective answer) I think having that acceleration redundancy is worth it and likelihood we draw out of the loss of the land is pretty high. Loved the rest of it! Great explanation on numbers, and giving new pilots some direction on the generic naming, explaining the loops, going over the crazy versatility of things like Sea Gate Restoration and explaining why not to use Dauthi. The number of times that folks ask about Sensei's Top and why it's not in the list in the Discord is pretty high, so maybe could have talked about why that's not in there alongside why Dauthi isn't in there. But we can probably just get some commands in the discord when someone asks hah. Again, loved it! Took me a little bit to make sure I was focused on consuming it. Great job!
So for the one ring hull breaker combo are they using two mana rocks to go infinite then casting one ring infinite times ? Then say drawing into bow master to infinite ping ? Just a bit curious as the line . It’s not as simple as one card right it’s like two mana positive rocks plus draw plus inf etb = win . Seems rife with ways to be interrupted .
Correct, you need to have two rocks that together net mana. It's harder to disrupt than you think, by that point in the game you should have a solid grip of cards to protect the win buoyed by Hullbreaker Horror. Yes it needs setup, this is a deck that requires the patience to set things up over time before the win.
@@ColorsAreACrutch ah split second is only cast spells and active abilities? I always thought it was anything on the stack! What are your thoughts on phantasmal image, kitesail larcenist and yawgmoths will? No yawgmoth for self recursion to reestablish board state after a wipe?
So naming 2 is the default, but do you name 1 if you have a turn 1 Talion on the play? I was thinking that vs Green decks, naming 1 is probably preferable too, since dorks won trigger on 2.
You need to have two of the cheap mana rocks (like Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Opal etc.) - one in hand, one in play. With Horror in play, You cast one of the rocks and then bounce the other one (floting mana from it) - this way You have loop to cast one, bounce other - and each time get extra mana. With ifinit mana, you can start to bounce other stuff on yours board (like one ring / bowmasters) and win the game.
Bounce Orcish Bowmaster, replay Orcish Bowmasters & ping an opponent for 1. Bounce Orcish Bowmasters, replay… you get the idea. Play The One Ring, tap The One Ring to draw a card, bounce The One Ring to hand. Play The One Ring, repeat and draw the whole deck and kill people however you wish.
With HBH in play, cast Mana Crypt, HBH trigger bounce Mox Opal, cast Opal bounce crypt. Infinite mana. Cast Bowmaster, bounce Opal, Cast Opal bounce Bowmaster. Repeat until everyone is at 0 life.
@jarv012 tap Crypt, float 2, cast opal bounce crypt, tap opal float 1 black, cast crypt, repeat 10,000 times generating 10,000 mana of all colors. End with opal in hand. Cast bowmasters, bounce crypt, ping a player, cast crypt bounce Bowmasters. Etc etc. -Max P
I tested Ertai, which is better than Amalgam because it can be used as a Hullbreaker outlet to draw our deck by repeatedly destroying Talion. It wasn't good enough and way too expensive at 4cmc -Max P
@@ColorsAreACrutch my brother is playing talion as well. One include he found that suprised me was sygg river cutthroat. Talion is 3 and a flier. It triggers way more than you think it would.
Can i start by saying I love this list and I love this channel. My own list looks quite similar. My question for the team, as well as the hivemind, pertains to Whispering Madness... could it be a win-con with bloodchief out? Pre-combat: everyone discards their hand and draws greatest amount, that is going to deal quite a bit of damage. But then ciphering it to Talion or a different creature would make everyone do it again after combat damage. Surely that would be game ending or close to it. Could that card be viable? Cheers and i appreciate the hard work and dedication to a killer list.
Is this deck better than Yuriko as a dimir damage over time deck? Seems like you get more card draw and better interaction but your damage is a lot worse.
In my opinion while Yuriko probably can do more damage over time, it comes with the expense of drawing less cards, and having to give up interaction density to run Yuriko enablers. So I obviously prefer Talion and think it's a stronger deck. But to each their own. -Max P
We are testing a couple cards, but I just played the deck in a tournament last week with only one card difference. Notion Thief instead of Ledger Shredder. -Max P
Yea... I also went into total control, with some stax pieces. Also, at one time, I had no combo wins, just to see if I could pull it off. I see your not running the rug of smothering, It's a mvp I'm most games, chips away at opponents while shutting down storm win attempts. What's the reasoning behind the choice. Curious as it's something I tutor for a lot of the time. As to lands have you considered takenuma in the land slot. Windfall vs time twister... well Windfall is IMHO a bit better, as it works with bloodcheifs and mnemonic, while time twister messes you up. And recursion isn't something this deck really needs, I run takenuma for some recursion . Cut consult you'll never look back. Oracle is like youbsa8d the weakest wincon in the deck, so free up a slot for something more useful like kitesail, it suprisingly works well. Was thinking of horror... will have to try it out. Thanks. Also your not running trzerret the seeker. With all the staxy artifacts and hullbraker getting some 0 drops might be fun. Also something to test out, chalice of the void on 1. You have few one drops vs you opponents, while talion on 2, your never missing out on advancing in the game. It ither they can't cast or you draw win win.
Do I stay up into the early hours to watch this video instead of trying to sleep? Yes, yes I do.
All of the Talion Gang out here getting those views up ASAP. So excited that you put this out!

This felt like a coaching session and I love it!
Awesome deck tech. Great info, depth, reasoning, and pacing.
Love it guys. Will be making some adjustments to my deck off the back of this 🤙

Great deck tech guys! Keep 'em coming🔥🔥
Love the deck tech, excited to see more in the future! A ton of great insight.

@@ColorsAreACrutch Super fair!
That was so nice! Cool Deck. Ob next pls ❤
And what are your thoughts on substituting time spiral for time twister, time spirals probably too expensive?
Awesome video
Any consideration for harbinger of the seas? I've tried it in other control decks and really like it.
Liked and commented for Talion algorithm
Good stuff! Thanks!
RIP Daurhi. One of my favourite cards but I can’t argue with this logic

What is the reason for not playing mine crank to combo with blood chief ascension?
Mindcrank is a dead card on its own that happens to feed opponents’ Dockside Extortionist & Underworld Breach.
How are you getting a bounce effect with hull breaker on a trickbind when trickbind has split second?
Triggered abilities from the casting of trickbind Will still trigger. So if I have HBH in play, and cast trickbind, I get an HBH trigger
@@ColorsAreACrutch ah split second is only cast spells and active abilities? I always thought it was anything on the stack!

How does hullbreaker horros works with orcish or with the one ring?
Bounce Orcish Bowmaster, replay Orcish Bowmasters & ping an opponent for 1. Bounce Orcish Bowmasters, replay… you get the idea.
Play The One Ring, tap The One Ring to draw a card, bounce The One Ring to hand. Play The One Ring, repeat and draw the whole deck and kill people however you wish.
Can someone explain to me the Hullbreaker Horror loops in this deck?
With HBH in play, cast Mana Crypt, HBH trigger bounce Mox Opal, cast Opal bounce crypt. Infinite mana. Cast Bowmaster, bounce Opal, Cast Opal bounce Bowmaster. Repeat until everyone is at 0 life.
Make sense. I didn't understand why Opal was played either. Thanks for the reply!@@ColorsAreACrutch
But opal just gives 1 mana how can you recast orcish bowmaster infinitely?
And how does the one ring combo with HBH works?
@jarv012 tap Crypt, float 2, cast opal bounce crypt, tap opal float 1 black, cast crypt, repeat 10,000 times generating 10,000 mana of all colors. End with opal in hand. Cast bowmasters, bounce crypt, ping a player, cast crypt bounce Bowmasters. Etc etc. -Max P
Have either of you looked at Overcharged Amalgam or is it too much at 4 cmc
just too expensive
I tested Ertai, which is better than Amalgam because it can be used as a Hullbreaker outlet to draw our deck by repeatedly destroying Talion. It wasn't good enough and way too expensive at 4cmc -Max P
Do you guys do this for other commanders?
Considering the line of needing to kill Talion before going for the Thassa + Consult line, why is Phyrexian Tower not in the list?
lands need to make our colors

People will put Dauthi in their deck instead of watching this video

Have there been any changes since this awesome video?

Would Tinybones, the Pickpocket work in this deck? He seems to get value later in the game.
I know this comment is late but I really cannot afford a 11k deck is there by chance a way to make a deck that is under 100$ for talion?
Not that is cedh, but you could build a casual list for sure
I just am getting into mtg and Talion by far my favorite card I just don't feel comfortable splurging so much on it yet. @@ColorsAreACrutch
