I’m surprised no mention of Hazel’s Brewmaster! That card has lead to a significant increase in Devoted Druid combos and a dominance in golgari win conditions
Talon gates is such a cool design. It's a cool land with a cool effect that is powerful enough to be worth using while not powerful enough to go in literally every deck. I sometimes wish it was standard legal because it would probably be fun in pioneer or modern.
So a fun little bit about Edge of Eternity: one of the racing teams in aetherdrift (basically the in-universe explanation for factions tied to color pairs) is the Guidelight Voyagers, and it seems like they're basically searching for the story hook to that set (the last paragraph is the important one, skip to it if you want): The Guidelight Voyagers are an uncanny collection of automatons captained by a single mind: a machine that calls itself "Mendicant Core." The automatons of the Guidelight work like limbs of a vast intelligence, united together in the singular purpose to transit the planes of the Multiverse in a repeatable method, varying their approach with rapidity to introduce new variables to their controllable baseline in the hopes of finding a way back to their homeworld. The Guidelight first appeared during the opening of the Omenpaths, emerging onto Avishkar shortly after the Phyrexian invasion. They found the plane acceptable but were disturbed by their arrival there. The Omenpath they transited through essentially opened around them and deposited them upon Avishkar. After a period of wandering the plane, Mendicant encountered the Grand Prix. Under Mendicant's guidance, they deemed the infrastructure of the race to be a perfect iterative field for them to attempt their audacious plan: transit the Omenpaths and hope they recreate the conditions that brought them to Avishkar-only this time in reverse-and return home. The Guidelight Voyagers were able to compete in the first Ghirapur Grand Prix, finishing as a solidly middle-pack team employing reliable, if predictable, strategies. In this edition, though, the Guidelight has revised their plans, attempting new and unpredictable methods of racecraft. Something about the race has changed. Though the other teams don't know what that is, they all understand that the Guidelight Voyagers are searching for something at the edges of the Grand Prix.
its interesting how you guys talked about duskmourn at the beginning cause i recently got back into magic a few months ago after trying initially years ago in like 2017-18. Bloomburrow is what really pulled me in but i think duskmourn has a lot of cool things you can work around with, granted i am in casual commander since i am still learning more every week when i go to my card shop to play but shows like yours teach me a lot! Love the content!
Vexing bauble shuts off a great deal of the fast mana and lion's eye combos. Its valuable in shutting off major prolific threats beyond the free interaction spells
23:16 **EDIT** I'm wrong on this one. Definitely can stifle or Trickbind the activation to put it onto the field. My bad. The ability to activate Talon Gates and put it onto the field bypasses the stack since it's from a private zone (hand), meaning you can't counter putting it onto the field. The ETB phase-out ability can definitely be stifled or Deflecting Swatted, though.
It does not bypass the stack, you reveal Talon Gates as part of activating the ability. See the final ruling for the card on Gatherer where it mentions the ability being on the stack. "When you activate Talon Gates of Madara's last ability, you must reveal Talon Gates of Madara from your hand until that ability resolves or otherwise leaves the stack. If Talon Gates of Madara isn't still in your hand as that ability resolves, nothing happens."
@adubiousnotion5118 @russTheBu5 you guys are right. WotC included a ruling in the release of the card that said that revealing the card is part of the activation cost, and therefore can be interacted with. My bad! In practice though, I'd definitely say that stifling the ETB is better, since that means that player can't just do it again
It does feel really nice to include one in my Dimir deck. On average I can turn 1 fetch into it to help fix my next draw. At best it synergizes with my Commander if I play it right before I attack. The fact that they're fetchable makes them so much more playable than say the Temples.
Valley Floodcaller with Doubling Seasons in a blue/green deck is fantastic. I have an Ezuri, Claw of Progress deck that shocks people when I get that engine going. I also use a similar engine in my upgraded Tyranid deck, and it slaps hard. By turn 5 I regularly have 25+ power Broodlord with clamavus and doubling season out if the cards go my way.
as a Green (Yisan and sometimes Grist Hulk) player, my top 3 cards of the year are colorless/lands. hahahaha 1 - Marvin, Murderous Mimic 2 - Talon Gates of Madara 3 - Shifting Woodland
Something I think they didn't mentioned but I believe is amazing is the six-shifting interaction. Both peaces on board makes every six trigger a menace
I'd love to see you guys discuss color pairings and who are the best in each pair/wedge again. Especially once we go back to Tarkir, I love the Sultai wedge personally and I think Tasigur is a secret OP pick
Around 14min when they’re talking about Seedborne Muse and VFC, the untapping ability with a flash enabler. This is what Elsha of the Infinite does with Unwinding clock. It’s basically seedborne/VFC at home lol
The new hotness for Glarb is to run Dosan and Malevolent Hermit to give you that protection while casting your doomsday or cracking your pile. Come back Dylan. Trust the frog.
As a suggestion for the channel, each year, update your top 10 lists with the new cards of each category that come out. Easy update video: It doesn't have to be long just long enough to get the new list.
Stella's ability targets the spell she copies. If you counter the spell that she's trying to copy, that card gets removed from the stack and put in the yard. It's no longer the same game object as the one she was trying to copy, and her ability will fizzle.
I've won several times with Stella Lee by casting a free counter spell in response to my own wincon, then copying the wincon infinitely in order to win before the counter ever resolved.
I've used Talon Gates to great effect to sneak my Commander into play or go for a win by phasing out a Drannith with it. And it only costs me a landfall.
High fae trickster really makes me interested in the Neoform decks as just being able to, even if its not something you always want to do, to neoform into trickster just sounds bangin Also Enduring vitality and that whole cycle with neoform is something I think is a shame doesnt have a home it feels like, as being able to neoform it in response to the few permanent removals for it, and then it just returns as an enchantment and u get to bring a 4cmc (high fae, displacer kitten, sheoldred, notion thief, etc)
If a copy trigger targets a spell on the stack and the spell gets removed, why doesn't the copy trigger fizzle? Did I miss something, cause if the trigger still goes through I feel like that doesn't intuitively makes sense.
Sorry for spamming the comments but I have a question about the innistrad remastered set coming! Is Meathook going to be pre banned for standard when it drops or do you think they may unban it due to power creep?
The day that Cameron says no rank is the day Dillon yeets himself out a window. NO RANKING NO PLAY TO WIN! Thems the rules. I don't make em, I just make bad jokes about them.
@@jamieritch3668 I mean you can drop the Talon basically for free if you have heliod flipped and a cost reduction of 4. So it's basically a "free" ability once Heliod's flipped. it's not really free.
My favorite card of 2024 is probably Kaito. It’s def not even close to the best and it only goes in one deck so I get why you didnt mention it. It’s a hella fun card though.
What do you think could be done to escape midrange hell? I know the bans weren't for cEDH, but imo they've made it much more stale, the best decks stayed strong, and so, so many fringe decks fell away. Feels like Rhystic Study - the Format atm. Stax is kinda shitty, and there's one turbo deck (Rog/Si)
i freaking hated the innistrad block. mostly just didnt like the flavor. i know, i know. zombies vamps werewolfs are for old books lol i might be a little bias we just came from new phyrexia. bro. some of the best flavor. all in universe. no one for one comparisons. not on a design level anyway. those cards still make what magic is and is good from this era. they have been chasing that high ever since. and the mirridin beseighed block came off the back of zendikar. off the back of conflux. im starting to get depressed lol now innistrad, did not have the problems that seem to have been happening for years now. the sets actually worked. u could play fun games. there were not an abundance of extra products. extra products r good and bad. so i do agree with u, looking back. innistrad was good. just not my favorite. standard used to be great ! money sink ;)
I’m surprised no mention of Hazel’s Brewmaster! That card has lead to a significant increase in Devoted Druid combos and a dominance in golgari win conditions
Oh yeah!!
Casual bleach reference dropped, it's ok Cam I heard it
Cam knows the heat that was Hueco Mundo
Badass reference!
I showed that line to my gf. She smiled.

The year of our Glarb 2024
I guess Delney would be the nonland card from MKM that's seeing a reasonable level of play
Delney is a great one too!
Mockingbird is also one of my favorite flavor wins
Also, end of the year, great to see you guys agreeing on a top 5. Keep that energy up next year, fellas 🤟

As a die hard Stella Lee player, I’m so glad she is getting the recognition she deserves
Same!!!! I love my girl Stella!!!
She amazing, got to 2nd place in a 63-player tournament
As a PGH resident, I appreciate the Kennywood sweater and your overall love of coasters.
Phantom's Revenge is in contention for best coaster in PA!
Thank you dudes for making great content, ive listened a lot this year and learned a lot. Im excited to see what playtowin brings in 2025

I've been enjoying Shifting woodlands in my mothman deck, I tend to get my combo pieces for food chain pretty easily.
I think its so cool you guys let patrons in your videos. Shoutout to play to win, you guys are awesome

PlayToWin has become the new Simpsons
That's so horribly offensive, calling them "new Simpsons". New Simpsons sucks. Old Simpsons is based

I don't believe this is true. The ability is very similar to ninjutsu, which you can also stifle. Not that it really changes much tho.
