From someone who has a 12 yr old greyhound - like all dogs, NEVER EVER leave, trust your dog &/or children alone with each other, never leave them alone no matter how placid your dog is. A rule in my home is if she is on her bed leave her alone, even awake on her bed leave her alone.
Greyhounds are wonderful dogs. Here in Chicago I see quite a few folks walking their retired greyhounds and you can just see what nice dogs they are and how well they bond with people.
Just got my first grey .he is an ex racer,I'm so in love with the relaxed nature of this wonderful breed.always had GS and there hard work compared with greyhounds.i want to foster someday, and help as many as I can
Dunno what the situation is with Greyhound retired racers available for adoption in the UK, but in America the number of dogs available has really dropped the last couple of years. COVID caused the racing tracks to shut down faster than they already were, racing Greyhounds isn't what it used to be. I'm looking to adopt another dog because my last one passed in the last year, but the Rescue groups tell me greyhounds are few and far between these days. Same in UK?
I had a greyhound who barked more than our other greyhounds we called her (Betty the guard dog),she would bark she would especially bark at our neighbor one day we caught the neighbor banging on the fence to get her to bark at him. Betty was a real character she would make us laugh 9 out of 10 times when she would stand and stretch she would fart she had gas most of the time
Greyhounds are wonderful dogs, elegant and gentle BUT, they cannot get along with cats or other small animals....! I have adopted 4 Greys from Ireland. Greyhounds are sighthounds; wery used by hunters and are PREDATORS, so please BE MORE ACCURATE. Never ever off leash and never close to cats or other small animals ( EVEN SMALL DOGS or, believe it or not, hedgehogs).
I found this video 9 years after it was made & am waiting for the RGT to match me with a dog.
