As a greyhound owner this is all very accurate! I'll also add that they smell really good - no doggy smell at all. & their fur feels like velvet and they don't shed too much. They're so sweet, silly and gentle but can be a bit stubborn.
My family has owned about 17 greyhounds and fostered another 20. There was a big fenced in field we would take them to called the Greyhound Playground. We would watch up to 25 Greyhounds sprinting around the field!
I love my rescue greyhound Ellie to bits. She's 7 and I've had her for 4 years. She just got diagnosed with endocarditis in her aortic valve and given 3 to 6 months to live. Devastating. It's not all bad, she's getting unlimited treats and steaks for dinner now, she's loving it. Give Magnus a hug from Sydney Australia!
I had a rescued Greyhound a few years ago. Utterly beautiful character, full of love and affection, dumb as a post at times, but always made my life full of laughter, love and cuddles :-) One thing I did notice was that they pile on muscle mass when fed properly, so a strong lead/collar are needed for walking them after a while :-) My wonderful Trevor had his own couch, as he took up the entire length of one when he filled out, so liked his comfort. He was a champion sleeper, too, able to fall asleep within the blink of an eye. I miss him every day, and cherish the memories of our time together more with every passing day. Beautiful video, beautiful dogs. Very good family dogs, which most people don't realise. Give them some love and regular food/walks, and they will repay you with so much love and fun than you could possibly believe :-D
Can I ask, how did you manage with the pulling? We’re in talks with a local rescue to adopt an ex-racer, I’m concerned I won’t be able to hold him as I’m 5’3” and have arms like Mr Burns, really want to consider him though as he seems a lovely chap, but I really do need to be able to walk him by myself without my partner.
@@victoriabridges1944 I found that just gently tugging back on his lead worked at first, as he was still scared of me, but after a while, he just took to being almost glued to my leg, happy to just be out with me, and able to sniff in the bushes as we walked. It just happened naturally over a short period of time. It's the same with my friend's dogs. They drag him around like a rag doll, but as soon as I take over the leads, they quiet down and walk beside me.
I had one before. You should know that because their waists are so narrow, their intestines aren't as large as say a Lab or Golden or German Shepherd. This means they cannot hold it as long between poops as other dogs so you may come home to a surprise on your floor. Something to be aware of. Don't blame the dog.
I can speak from experience about GREYTHOUNDS......they are the most beautiful sentient souls. I've had greythounds for the last 15yrs, absolutely love the breed. I'm recently bereaved of my black hound KIDDO, he was the love of my life. I will adopt again, I retire in a few years so will wait until then (or I will try to). I still go out at weekends with our hound group and get my greyt-hound fix there. I would thoroughly recommend a GREYTHOUND AS A PET.
Aw makes me miss my greyhound so much. He died of bone cancer a few months ago. I adore greyhound quirks (except his waking up to go out at 3 am every morning for 8 years!) 😆
One of my rescues was unusually tall, even for a greyhound, so when he got the zoomies, he'd cover the entire room in about one and a half strides before having to reverse direction. And while greyhounds are explosively fast, they are not necessarily agile, so it was really a comedy display when he did this.
Watching this greyhound video while my grey is sleeping next to me. I m so happy to have her in my life☺️ hope more people get to know how wonderful and sweet they are
I've always had greyhounds since l retired. As an airline pilot it was impossible to have any pet. But the day l stopped travelling the world l fulfilled my dream of getting a greyhound. But l got two..... Great company for me and for each other. This video is a perfect description of these children that never grow up.
Wow, if only more dog breeds were as chilled out as greyhounds. We are going to a greyhound rehoming centre to adopt one. We currently have a collie so hopefully they will get on ok.
We love our Greyhound Elmo... he is a big quirky loving boy. Everyone should have a Greyhound, I know we always will. Elmo has never "roached" unfortunately, but he does sleep in many goofy positions. Thanks for this channel... Hope to visit Scotland some day. Cheers from Kentucky.
Lovely video and a relaxing watch. We're on our seventh Grey now and everything you said is true about this wonderful breed. It's amazing how we spend a lifetime making beds but can never get their's right!
I found a grey hound 2 years ago, she was very thin and was on the start of leishmaniasis. I hadn’t meant to keep her but she is such a lovely girl and she loves my other animals. She’s like a mother hen, my cats sit with her and my other two dogs love her. She’s doing really well and I’m just amazed how easy going she is. I always thought they would be so much hard work. In Spain where I live there are so many of them dumped. It’s not always easy for the shelters to find them homes because like I said they think they need lots of exercise and looking after - which they don’t. They just want to be loved 🥰. Xxxxx
Our 10 year old Whippet boy died last month unexpectedly. I would love to get another dog when we are ready. I keep getting drawn to adopting a greyhound or 2. Watching this video is like watching my Jasper! 😂 We live in the countryside and we have some amazing places to let them explore freely. Thanks for the video. Made me smile. 😊
I've had my greyhound Lana for nearly three months now, and she's been an absolute pleasure to own. She's friendly to everyone, even cats, she's very calm with other dogs, and she's basically the best friend I always wanted.
I grew up with two rescue greyhounds. Moe was from New England and Tabatha was from Florida. To this day, Moe was light tan is still the most muscular greyhound I've seen. He had hindquarters like a thoroughbred. My black female, Tabatha was way more slender but actually quicker than moe. Every night, both would grab their beds and take em upstairs every night on command and whine until they both were covered with a blanket. I will rescue my own greys one day.
@Colin Dooley Greyhounds aren't rescued, they are retired. They are never in any danger. You may have a hard time adopting a greyhound because there is a shortage of greyhounds because the tracks in FL had to close and there is only 2 remaining tracks still racing in WV. There are waiting lists in every adoption group so if you plan on adopting, get your name on the waiting list now at your local adoption group.
Myself and my girlfriend our adopting a retired racing greyhound next weekend. I was already excited, but this video has somehow made me even more excited! 😍
Magnus has the most fantastic smile especially when he is sleeping upside down! I had always wanted an ex racer but because we had a cat, the Greyhound Trust advised against it. However, we were able to adopt two rescue greyhound puppies from them. Their mum had fallen pregnant out of the registration period, so she was put up for rehoming along with 6 puppies . They are a bit of a handful, as all puppies are but they are gorgeous loveable beautiful and very intelligent dogs, now almost 9 months old. They are great fun and boy do they run! ❤️ The Greyhound Trust at Dudley have been fantastic 👍😁
The company has stopped making the snakes, which is a shame as it is a great treat dispensing toy. for what i have read some dog owners were not happy as the head did not take much of a beating. Magnus is not a toy destroyer so it works great with him. besides, the head part is not really important. it is the body as that is were the treats are and that part is very tough and durable.
Thanks for your kind words. did not plan on making so many, but I kept getting requests from people online and person to make a few more. Glad they helped you in your decision making process. Hope you felt they were real and a fair representation of your experience in adopting a greyhound.
This channel was what helped us finalise our decision to get our lovely boy, Lark. He's been with us 6 months now and oh my gosh we couldn't love him more. He started out so nervous and has come so far! He even managed the stairs last week for the first time! He also is very considerate of my bad knees and always keeps pace with me when we walk. I have truly fallen in love with these gorgeous, gentle giants and a big part of it is thanks to this channel and all the wonderful info you provide! 🙌
We've only had our beautiful greyhound 6 weeks but I wouldn't be without her. She makes me laugh & smile everyday. While we were waiting for her to be ready for us to have her, I spent hours watching your videos of Magnus, he's just gorgeous ❤️
Love Magnus and Scout! Reminds me of the three retired greyhounds I've had over the years, they're great companions. They are the Garfields of the dog community!
I came across your videos totally by accident when we were looking into getting a puppy. Thanks to you and Magnus we are now going through the adoption process with the Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary and we cant wait. I cant believe how misunderstood these dogs are by people, me previously included
Got my hound from the Greyhound Adoption Center in San Diego, California. They rescue tons of greyhounds from the Agua Caliente Racetrack in Mexico and other places
My boy Quince passed away a few months ago and this made me upset in the end but loved every minute of it, thanks for the post, ps I'm getting a new boy soon just finalising the nitty gritty then my heart will be full again
So sorry for your loss. They are special creatures. Its great to hear that you are getting another. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.
We giggled and awww’d the whole way through this video. Having a grey and a lurcher, every one of these attributes is bang on the money. This is a fantastic compilation! Thank you so much for making this!
How nice to see another Video of these two lovely Greys....Scout has changed a bit she is such a lovely Lady....my big Boy Balou is still adjusting after 2.5 Month with me....biggest Problem he is very scared of every other Dog that is not a Greyhound....most of the Time i try to find some empty fenced in Fields to train him, sadly there are no dog Parks around here and my back yard is to small for him to stretch and run.... but i agree with all your points why adopting a Greyhound is just the best Thing.....how long did it take you to have the freedom to let Magnus run of leed and be sure he would come back ? Take care, Dagmar from Germany 🤗
We have a gated private park near us with high enough fences for Magnus, so he was safe enough to be off lead there. We also practised recall in the park too. We did this before we let him off at the beach. We always make sure we have an enclosed place to take him.
Aww just a beautuful boy❤ We have a Lurcher called Buddy, he's a Greyhound X Bedlington & he's just like Magnus goofing around & 'Roaching' 😂 & sleeps with his mouth open!! So loving & kind just like your Magnus❤ thank you for sharing Magnus with us. Much love to you both❤❤❤❤
I just love your videos of Magnus and Scout! Watching them always makes me feel good when I’m having a tough day. Thank you for sharing your wonderful Greyhounds with us on TH-cam! Please make more!
I have 2 galgos (one of which looks exactly like Magnus) 1 greyhound And a podenco They are so gorgeous, so full of love and especially the galgos , are so feisty and funny. They love thier walkies and they are the food and snuggle monsters. Although one of my galgos (The Magnus looking one) is very talky and loves his food. Thank you for this video ❤️❤️
Greyhounds are lovely dogs. They do however need a muzzle in the event of them going into any public place where cats or smaller dogs may be. They do have a compulsion to go chasing (and catching) smaller, furry things. I grew up with collies...all fine until they see sheep. Collies have a desire to herd even if they have never been a working farm dog. All dogs have their "issues". I like greyhounds though - a lot! I think that it's sad that so many ex racers need homes.
Same here, I am also not sure if it should be a greyhound or a whippet. But at the moment I am working full time and I don´t want the dog to be alone for so long so I will only bring one into my life if I have enough time for them
Magnus reminds me so much of my BFF's recently departed Ipo. She adopted her to be a service animal to help because she is blind in one eye, Ipo took to the job of defending her blind side like she was born to it. Ipo was so sweet and loving and goofy, oh so goofy 🙂 Watching this video made me miss the sweet girl who greeted me like a long lost friend every time I visited.
I love how racing greyhounds have retirement plans and be happy with people who want a dog, to rest and enjoy the rest of their lives Its a win-win situation for everyone
"Aww but Daaad!! I want to chase the Robot Lawnmower!!" I've wanted a Greyhound for over 25 years, and never been quite in the right situation to actually have one. In my previous home I wasn't eve allowed to have a dog, and now I can, I keep getting out voted by other members of the family! LOL. Don't get me wrong, now that we have a dog, he's lovely and I wouldn't part with him, but he's the yappy, over-excitable type you talked about in your video. I long for the quiet calm, lazy, cuddly Greyhound!
awwwww!!! Magus was smiling at the end of the video!!! It be so cool if my greyhound does that LOL, mine just wants the hug to be over and pulls away xD. She enjoys a hug from her bed instead AHAHAHAAA.
Beautiful. Thank you. Lovely to see them off leash running. I’ve heard it said that you cant let them off because if they pick up a scent of a critter they’ll run straight away for miles. Always helps me with my mutt to have a pocketful of treats! Makes me very magnetic 😊
Thank you so much for your videos. I've followed your content for a while and super excited to adopt a greyhound of my own. I recently moved from Canada to the UK, so I look forward to joining the UK greyhound community. :) Thanks again!
Getting ready to start fostering Greyhounds. We’ve adopted two in years prior and have missed their companionship and decided to foster now. Of course, we fully expect to foster fail at some point, which is a good thing in that regard!
Fostering not only helps the adoption group(s) ... they also cover the initial expenses and should provide you w beds, crates etc..also, it allows you to experience life w greys --the perfect fit always shows up!!! ❤
Picked up Eeyore on Sunday last week. He is nearly 7, he raced four four years 147 races, 29 wins. He is doing really well and is very gentle. Just starting to play. He was terrified at first, lots of panting and gulping. I am a reiki therapist so he gets reiki every day! Loves it. Thank you so much for your information
Your Eeyore sounds lovely! We got our Rainy this past March. She had been racing in Daytona Beach. She adjusted pretty quickly and is so gentle and loving and loves everyone she meets. I wish you many years of love and happiness with your new fur baby!
Thank you so much for this video!!! I’m finally moving to a place where I can own a dog and have been researching what would be the best dog for me and my lifestyle. I want to rescue a dog and this video was very helpful! 💕💕💕🙏😇
Thanks for watching. Glad you liked the video. I have made a few other videos about our greyhounds if you are looking for more. All the best with your research.
A Greyhound might just be the answer for me! I've always had dogs and cats at the same time but have downsized to an apartment and thought it cruel to have a dog here and I'm not keen on small energetic dogs, cute as they are but not practical for me here in this small space even tho I'm happy to do a couple of walks a day. Plus the barking that small dogs do! I'm wondering how a Greyhound would be living with cats. Can you ask Magnus what advice he can give me on cats. Thank you.
Some Greyhounds can live with cats. you would need to get one that is cat tested. Neither Magnus or Scout could live with cats as their prey drive is too strong.
@@rubytuesday5412 not entirely sure why, but spanish greyhounds (galgo espanol) tend to be cat friendly, even though they are also racers. They look a little different but have very similar personalities to british greyhounds.
My Thurston was actually afraid of our cat at first. It really depends on the individual grey. He loves to chase squirrels, though. By chase, I mean he bounds around them in circles like a big goofball. The only thing we have seen him be aggressive towards is opossums.
Thank you for this lovely video, I too had a weep at the end, because they are such special dogs. I find my Madge (racing name Devils Magic) is very bright, and is also very independent. She has her own double human bed to sleep on, in my spare room, and sofa downstairs, but she will come and sleep on my bed when she wants to. She prefers to play with her toys on her own, and we are getting there with the cuddles, after 3 years of adopting her. She loves everyone and all dogs. She sleeps a lot, but enjoys her walks, and is always up at the crack of dawn for her first walk of the day! She is terrified at getting her nails clipped though, which is a real issue. If anyone has any useful ideas on how we can overcome this, then I would be most grateful. She has been sedated at the vets to have them cut, but it was still a big issue for her? We always walk on the roads, but that does not wear her nails down, as we are not running. I am 66 years young, so I can jog with her for a bit, but am limited! She gets to have zoomies with a friend's dog in a field where I live, once a week, as I do not have a garden. I would not be without her. xxx
I truly believe, the Greyhound was Gods gift to Mankind. They are just so full of Love.
They are great dogs. Thanks for your comments.
Yes yes and yes
Yes, and all dogs are in that sense!
100%

Can I ask, how did you manage with the pulling? We’re in talks with a local rescue to adopt an ex-racer, I’m concerned I won’t be able to hold him as I’m 5’3” and have arms like Mr Burns, really want to consider him though as he seems a lovely chap, but I really do need to be able to walk him by myself without my partner.

I love when Magnus puts on the afterburners at the beach and leaves that other little pup in his wake. effortless acceleration. Sensational.
It is fun to watch him do zoomies
When the other dog got close, it’s only because magnus let him

I think the "rabbits" used in racing are mechanical, which would explain his fixation on the lawn mower. Beautiful dogs, and lovely temperament.

Love that you're still doing this. Your videos were definitely a factor in us deciding to adopt our ex-racer and we've now had him for almost a year.

Beautiful hounds! We have two also and they are the best! Magnus' markings on his back look like wings.
They do look like wings. Thanks for watching
Love Magnus and Scout! Reminds me of the three retired greyhounds I've had over the years, they're great companions. They are the Garfields of the dog community!
They are great dogs. Thanks for watching.
I came across your videos totally by accident when we were looking into getting a puppy. Thanks to you and Magnus we are now going through the adoption process with the Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary and we cant wait. I cant believe how misunderstood these dogs are by people, me previously included
Really glad the videos helped to persuade you to adopt a greyhound. They are great dogs. All the best with your adoption.
Got my hound from the Greyhound Adoption Center in San Diego, California. They rescue tons of greyhounds from the Agua Caliente Racetrack in Mexico and other places
Thanks for sharing. helpful info for our viewers from California.
So cute how curious he was about the lawnmower
you have a really beautiful dog
Thanks for your kind words. He is a special pup.
Yeah, he was like, “What the...?”
Thank you so much for making this!
thanks for watching. Glad you liked the video.
Love your videos. We have two whippets and two greys, all on their backs with feet in the air asleep at the moment.Sighthounds are wonderful dogs.
That's quite a sight to see. Great dogs
Can you advise Carsten B. (above) about whippets?
@@helenb6399 what would you like to know?
@@jeannettesquire7298 Carsten B above wanted to know about whippets (see newer comments).🔝
Much love to you both❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. Glad you like the video.
Beautiful. Thank you.
Thanks
@@magnusgreyhound You're welcome.
I just love your videos of Magnus and Scout! Watching them always makes me feel good when I’m having a tough day. Thank you for sharing your wonderful Greyhounds with us on TH-cam! Please make more!
Thanks for watching. Glad you like the videos. Will try and make some more soon.
Beautiful greyhound
Thanks for your kind words.
I have 2 galgos (one of which looks exactly like Magnus)
1 greyhound
And a podenco
They are so gorgeous, so full of love and especially the galgos , are so feisty and funny. They love thier walkies and they are the food and snuggle monsters.
Although one of my galgos (The Magnus looking one) is very talky and loves his food.
Thank you for this video ❤️❤️
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.
I want a grey so bad, magnus is magnificent 😁👍 and hahaha I'm curious about that robot lawn mower as well
Thanks for your kind words. The mower was interesting.
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment
😅
I love these dogs Seriously considering a greyhound or whippet for a company as I live on my own Magnus is stunning 😍
Thanks for your kind words. Glad you liked the video. They are great dogs.
Thanks for sharing your story. Sounds like a great dog. Glad you liked the video.
I love my baby Jet so much. He's my little love bug and jester !
They are great dogs.
I love how racing greyhounds have retirement plans and be happy with people who want a dog, to rest and enjoy the rest of their lives
Its a win-win situation for everyone
Glad to be able to give Magnus and Scout a good home
Sweetest dogs
Thanks for watching..
Yes they are great dogs. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.
awwwww!!! Magus was smiling at the end of the video!!! It be so cool if my greyhound does that LOL, mine just wants the hug to be over and pulls away xD. She enjoys a hug from her bed instead AHAHAHAAA.
Magnus is super affectionate. he wants constant hugs and rubs. Scout is very different in this aspect and probably similar to your girl.
Beautiful dogs
Thanks for your kind words.
I have italian greyhound, he's the best companion, real family member. ♥️
Beautiful. Thank you. Lovely to see them off leash running. I’ve heard it said that you cant let them off because if they pick up a scent of a critter they’ll run straight away for miles. Always helps me with my mutt to have a pocketful of treats! Makes me very magnetic 😊
We tend to only let ours off lead in enclosed areas. it is great to see them run.
Loved the video, thank you for this, I plan to adopt a greyhound once I can move out and get my own place and this was a great help
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for your videos. I've followed your content for a while and super excited to adopt a greyhound of my own. I recently moved from Canada to the UK, so I look forward to joining the UK greyhound community. :) Thanks again!
Thanks for watching. Glad you like the videos.
They certainly are, wonderful beings
They are!
They are great pets but also great characters and will have you adoring them and you’ll be their pet.
Thanks for sharing your experience with Greyhounds
It’s true! They’re magnificent animals. So calm. I’m always kissing mine on the head and giving her an ear rub.
Thanks for sharing. they are special.
Love our current 3 greyhounds ❣
Ravan, Ranger, Bitzer!
They are great dogs
My greyhound Quinn just does a fast run around the yard!!
I’m the only owner in my entire county that has a greyhound!!. 😊🙏🇺🇸
Thanks for watching.
wow I suddenly have the urge to get a Greyhound 🤩
I can understand that.

A beautiful video, and so true. I miss my Heather 💜
Thanks for watching. Glad you liked the video.
Getting ready to start fostering Greyhounds. We’ve adopted two in years prior and have missed their companionship and decided to foster now. Of course, we fully expect to foster fail at some point, which is a good thing in that regard!
All the best with the upcoming fostering. Thanks for taking care of these pups
Glad you liked the video. Hope Eeyore settles in to his new home quickly.
Your Eeyore sounds lovely! We got our Rainy this past March. She had been racing in Daytona Beach. She adjusted pretty quickly and is so gentle and loving and loves everyone she meets. I wish you many years of love and happiness with your new fur baby!
The background music choices in this vid were way better than usual, good job man
Thanks
Thank you so much for this video!!! I’m finally moving to a place where I can own a dog and have been researching what would be the best dog for me and my lifestyle. I want to rescue a dog and this video was very helpful! 💕💕💕🙏😇
Thanks for watching. Glad you liked the video. I have made a few other videos about our greyhounds if you are looking for more. All the best with your research.
Love my sweet greys. Wanted them forever and now they have me.
Thanks for sharing. They are great pups

"...and then up like a shot..." Beautifully timed!

Thanks for the heads up Magnus.
Lovely greyhounds!! We've adopted 2 in the past. One day we'll adopt a 3rd. Special sweet loving darlings!!
Thanks for watching. They are great dogs
I would not be without her. xxx
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with Greyhounds.
