- 'I'm On Fire' by Mumford & Sons at the 3FM Mega Exclusive. Dedicated to 3FM-listener Jasper and his 50 friends and family members, the band played a private show at Tuschinski Amsterdam.
Jasper won this show by staying on the phone for more than 100 hours with Dutch radiostation 3FM. He did it for his girlfriend who lost her stepdad earlier this year. Mumford & Sons was the family's favourite band and their songs were played at the funeral.

There's a really beautiful story behind this gig let me tell you:
The radio station organized something called a line check. It meant that you had to stay on the phone as long it was needed to win.
The only thing was only one person could win. The person who won was able to bring along only 50 people.
The guy who won this gig stayed on the phone for like 140 hours straight which also meant he also broke the world record for most expensi... uhh I mean longest phone call ever.
The guy who won had a girlfriend. The stepfather of his girlfriend went to Pinkpop in 2012 and took a CD with him back home from Mumford and Sons. They all liked the music back home. Then the stepfather of his girlfriend promised him and his girlfriend "We are going to a Mumford and Sons concert one day!".
Sadly about a year and a half before this gig the stepfather heard he had cancer. One year later he passed away. The music of Mumford and Sons was also played at his funeral.
So wasting those 140 hours of his life wasn't much of a waste at all. He did it all for his girlfriend and her stepfather. He kept the promise but made it even bigger. And as he said with his last words of his long phone call "ONLY LOVE WINS IN THE END!"

Well I think it drops cause he tries to make a difference with the original note which was just a bit higher but much more dramatic and intense. Pity. In any case, good cover.

on man, I've loved this song for so long, first growing up in a house of springsteen fans, then becoming a mumford and sons fan, then hearing this performed at one of their concerts (acoustic, all around one mic), and now the recording is stunning.

What an arrangement, top work lads and that lower register Marcus is just sublime.
Brings me back to when I saw them perform this in Simcoe at one of the Stopovers. What a wonderful time I had. I always remember every time I see Mumford live.

one of the best songs on earth. they did it justice. i wish that lady put her dang phone down and be present like the rest of the audience. it was so distracting-- and truly embarrassing for her, having ruined the official filming of the song. i hope they banned use of phones for these performances from that day on. as for the literal rest of the lovely audience: thank you. seeing them really soaking in the song, fully present and respectful of the artists reminds me of the best in humanity.
