Welcome to our cooking channel Healthy & Tasty with Leena @healthytasty-ot7lc
1. Today is a special day.
2. After harvesting it was a tradition to offer a part of the harvest to gods.
3. All people in the paddy field get together and prepare a sweet rice. After offering to gods, all people in the neighborhood get together and enjoy the part of the meal.
4. This work is done by people who are knowledgeable in that.
5. Pure clean water from the well is used for this purpose.
6. Green gram is an important part of this sweet rice.
7. This work is done piously.
8. First, a pot of water is boiled to prepare the rice.
9. Cooking and all other activities are done by the males.
10. When water is boiling, roasted green gram is added. When green gram is half boiled, coconut milk and salt is added. Next the rice is added and mixed well.
11. To mark it as a meal prepared for the gods, some markings are made around the pot using lime.
12. Once the rice is added to the pot, a cover (mask) is tied around the mouth.
13. Cardomum, sulthana, dates, suger, honey and juggery is added to the rice.
14. A 'Pahan Pela' is made with decorations.
15. Gods are invited by blowing a conch shell.
16. Now its time for the prayers. Its 11.00 am. Sandlewood water is sprinkled around the 'kamatha' to clean it.
17. The offerings are made to Katharagama lord who is powerful in this region. The second floor of the 'Pahan Pela' is reserved for the mother earth. That is as a thank giving for the harvest given to us. It's a tradition to offer 7 varieties of fruits and 7 varieties of sweets along with the sweet rice.
18. 'Pahan Pela' is decorated with colorful and fragrant flowers.
19. After that, gods are invited by offering camphor fragrant smoke.
20. Smoke is offered to all 4 directions and prayed for prosperity.
21. The offering is divided after a prayer has been made to gods.
22. Before humans consume the meal, a part of the meal is reserved for all the animals in the nature.
23. Finally the meal is divided among all.
