      Squirrels usually squirrel away pine cones for the pine seeds. I think they're edible cause of all the bits of pine cone litter everywhere. Like they pulled off the cone scales, chucked them aside, and ate the seeds.

    That green block you thought was plaster, is a block of polishing compound. You rub it on a spinning buffing wheel for polishing metal. Green is typically for polishing stainless or other semi-hard metals

    • @lyricwritertoo
      @lyricwritertoo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there, a bit off subject but maybe you know since you know what the polishing compound is. Our retirement purchase home came with a 90s Jennaire stove top. One side had only the grill thing. So we ordered another stove inset to have 4 burners. The only thing is the original is brushed steel and none being sold (whirlpool bought them out and supplies the replacements) is not brushed. Now its all marked. I didnt do it. A visiting relative used scouring pad on it!!! What I want to do is make it look brushed like the other side to hide marks but make match. Is that possible? Ive tried to look online but not found exactly how to do that and with what items.

    • @katiesoderling3596
      @katiesoderling3596 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@lyricwritertoo I don’t think polishing compound is what your looking for. That would just shine metal. I’m not sure what you’d need for a brushed look. That’s something done in a factory and I have no idea how it’s done.

    • @KingMidas1983
      @KingMidas1983 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@lyricwritertoo the easiest thing I would think of is to use a scotch-brite pad, kind of like the green one on a scouring pad/sponge. You'll want to find a maroon one that's more aggressive than green. You should be able to get sheets of it in the paint section of a hardware store near the sandpaper.
      Use the pad like sandpaper and slide it back and forth, giving a brushed stainless look. Pick up the pad and scrub a different spot so it looks more random. Just make sure you scrub it in the same back and forth direction.
      If that doesn't work you can try the dark green pads that are more aggressive.
      Hope this helps.

      @@karenkoe7096 These glasses are probably ancient, based on the wrappers! A bit of background: Zeiss was founded in Jena in 1846, producing mainly microscopes and other optical instruments. The company was very successful, even during the World Wars. After WWII, the original HQs were in the Soviet zone and all the equipment was dismantled and shipped to the USSR. Most of the senior staff was taken to the US sector of Germany though and re-started the company there. Carl Zeiss Jena was the name of the eastern branch, structured as a VEB (people's-owned company). The fact that the envelopes don't say VEB Carl Zeiss on them means that they're either pre-1950s or the VEB was omitted on export goods, both equally possible.

For example...those comics wouldn't have stood a chance if they had wetted down the dust first.

    Disorganization is catnip to the curious. I used to frequent a used books store in Pasadena CA. One day I went in and had to step around two large boxes or jumbled up books. Each box had a sign: "unsorted books - do not touch". I asked the counterman what that was about. He told me, "We are thinning the shelves. That's all the stuff we take out. It flies out the door this way and we don't have to throw anything away."

    Great video Alex. I find it a curious thing that most people on my street that own a garage, never park their vehicles in it. It seems that a lot of them, in my small Ontario town, only use their garages in the summertime to sit in, simply to relax, on a sunny day and chat with the neighbours. You can see that their garages are generally packed to the ceilings with “stuff”. It’s probably very common in older neighbourhoods.

    Those hockey skates sure bring back great memories. We lived next to a stream that froze over every winter. One Saturday morning when I was quite young my dad took me for a ride and to my surprise we went to a sporting goods store to buy skates just like those. Dad got a pair too, took me out on the frozen stream and taught me how to skate. Seeing those makes me miss my dad, he would have turned 100 on December 1st

    This reminds me of when I had to clean my dad's house out. 40 years of business records in the far corner of the basement. Heavy, banana shipping boxes. Took me an entire weekend to haul them upstairs for the shredding company to eventually destroy. I'm surprised I didn't have a heart attack.

    Loved this! Esso was in Europe when I was 7 and I have an Esso man hanging in my memory China cabinet! My Grandpa died more than 70 years ago, he was an Optomitrist and he and my Grandma would spend time in the Savannah Georgia area, Peoria/Chicago area and the Edmunton Canada area. They would deliver, retest/ test and fit glasses to the individual. They would keep spare lenses, some frames and misc items in each location. Communication included telegraph and telephone at the time if you wanted quick communication ( His name was E H Anderson, my Grandma was an O'Dell who I think had family roots around your area! Bertha died in the 1990s at age 99 and there are several pictures of me with my great Grandma Albertina O'Dell.)
