    The trapbar was invented, patented and trademarked by Al Gerard, a competitive powerlifter. It is named after the (upper fibres of the) trapezius muscles, the muscle it was designed to train, with shoulder shrugs.

    I have a trap bar just like this one from Wright equipment. It's USA made and I picked it up on clearance for $170. The knurling is pretty weak (maybe that's why it was on clearance) but overall it's the exact same design. I specifically wanted THIS exact design for several reasons. It's a tank. Zero whip and can handle anything you throw at it. It's easier to store. The open ended trap bars have a thicker profile and ones with the raised handles even more so. It's rackable. The Kabuki bar is not rackable the Eleiko is but $800 for a trap bar is ludicrous. I never used the raised handles, and even if I wanted to emulate that effect I would just use it off of blocks. I love the simplicity and utility of this type of trap bar.

      There is definitely a reason that these types of trap bars are still made. It's a solid bar with plenty of sleeve length

    Bells of Steel has a new open ended trap bar that I’m considering. It’s $250 shipped.

      I’d be interested in testing it out. They make decent specialty bars

      They have Very short sleeves though

      That’s too bad. This is the second BOS bar I’ve heard of having this issue

    Great review Kurt. I’m thinking about getting this bar since I don’t need the higher handles and this would be much easier to store. My biggest concern is the tilting issue you talked about.
    Do you consider that a major issue? Do you still find some tilting even when you hold it centered and lift carefully?

    • @TheKurtlocker
      @TheKurtlocker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you grab the bar centered you’re gonna be just fine. My feedback to rogue was to put a knurl break where the center of the bar is to be a visual indication to the lifter for center of balance. I marked mine with a paint pen

    Great video. Do you have a specific recommendation for an open ended trap bar that isn't as expensive as Kabuki?

    • @TheKurtlocker
      @TheKurtlocker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t really shopped around for a more budget friendly option. I know coop at garage gym reviews has done several reviews though. I plan on acquiring one in the near future but have several things occurring that carry a higher priority at the moment

      Did you ever end up picking up an open trap bar? I know Bells of Steel and Giant Lifting make relatively cheap ones. Vulcan’s is a bit more expensive but still less than Kabuki.

    Anything rogue is overpriced!

    • @TheKurtlocker
      @TheKurtlocker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We are going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Some things definitely are, others are simply more expensive.

    • @aerowenn433

      If they were overpriced, they wouldn't have been in business very long. By definition they can't be, given how well the company does. The market and consumer decide, and they disagree with your statement. Rogue makes a higher tier of quality; you generally get what you pay for.
