How to Add Wireless Apple CarPlay to 16-19 Toyota Prius w/ CarABC (Radio Removal/Install)

- My 2017 Toyota doesn’t have Apple CarPlay, so with the help of this new CarABC module, I’m able to add it. This also supports Android Auto, mirror, and USB playback (mp4, mkv, mp3). I also show how to remove the radio and reinstall with dashboard trim for similar model 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 2021, 2022 Toyota Prius.

Based on this video, I bought a CarABC unit from Amazon. Following the instructions in this video, I was able to install this unit in my 2017 Prius, with no trouble at all.
I'm very happy to say, that it works great..! I'm now able to use Android Auto in my Prius. Thanks for posting this video..!!!

Does your Prius have the Navigation with a screen about 7"? Mine is like the one in the video just the screen itself is a bit bigger. Asking because i ordered one for mine. Should be here Friday. Hoping it works
@@tlcj3838 Yes it's about 7". I know Toyota makes a larger one, I don't know if the carabc will work with it

Big thanks for the video! Due to your video, the installation was really simple, though I have the Euro pre-facelift version of the prius, that differs in some tiny bits. Initially I was only a little bit "shocked" by the low Resolution. Of course it's caused by the display, but I never noticed that before as I didn't use the screen much. Greetings from Europe, Austria.
I just installed my module from carABC for my Toyota ch-r but all the menu looks a little different except for me main menu. I can’t use wired connection CarPlay. When I select CarPlay connection. It only says to activate Bluetooth and wifi on my phone. Weird… Also after a while of use, the screen starting bugging. I mean there was a kind of blinking lines in the middle of the screen. May be I’m working in an old firmware

Were you able to identify whether, when you use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, during a call, which microphone is enabled? Whether from the stereo or from the cell phone?
i havent figured that out yet
In my case it still uses the built in micro. Made a test call today and did place the cellphone a few meters away from the car and closed the doors. The opposite could hear me well.
It is good to hear it works, but it is hard to justify for the price. At $400, I can replace it with a proper head unit or add a portable carplay/AA display.

@@bobchan1666I just bought a car stereo off aliexpress for my Prius and it has an OLED screen…. It also works with all my wheel controls and backup camera. It was 88 dollars….

Update: I just installed it few days ago and can confirm that it works in mine, Fujitsu Panasonic radio none-entune version. It’s perfect but resolution is not.

The Quality sound only change using the “aux” and device? But if i return menu and Connect to the original bluetooth system radio is always the same original sound quality? Althoug carabc is connected?

Thanks for this video. This is the first one I've seen connecting this device to a Toyota radio that looks exactly like the one I have in my 2017 Corolla LE. My factory radio also doesn't have "Home" or "Apps" functionality so I was worried that it wouldn't work. I honestly don't know if mine is Entune 2.0 or regular or whatever. So this video tells me that I should be able to use this in my Corolla?

Nope, you'd have to play music through CarPlay

I tried to install the same box from CarABC for my Toyota CHR. I had a bad experience. The screen was randomly scrambled while using carplay. Make it unusable. I’m waiting for a replacement box but i hope that isn’t a general issue..
Yup still using it and it works. Sounds like a bad connection for one of the plugs into the AV part...or overheating?
Hi, does the radio (digital radio, DAB) still work after installation? Toyota CH-R 2019. I read somewhere in the comments that you don’t have radio anymore after installation!
Radio works but not at the same time as CarPlay audio. You can only do one or the other

Has anyone tried this on the 11.6 screen with Entune and JBL sound system? I have a 2018 Prius prime and would love to have CarPlay. I have yet to find a solution for this useless screen. Thank you in advance for any insight.

I have Prius 19 LE that has no Entune, would this work? Also, would it be possible to use the inbuilt aux usb by using an adapter instead of throwing the usb in the glove box? Pls suggest a good one if there is any.
I purchased one today, so I can try it out and see if that works. If not, I'll just use Bluetooth to make it wireless CarPlay

I have tried this on my Prius Prime 2019 without Entune and it doesn't seem to work. I can't get it to connect wirelessly without the Entune

my reverse camera does not work if the radio is in factory mode, I have to switch every time to car play mode if I want to see the camera image, yours do the same?

Does your Prius have the entune system? I have a 2016 Prius 2 WITHOUT entune, and I’m not sure if I can install this on, but from what I can see yours doesn’t have entune either, right?
Yep that's correct, I have a 2017 Prius 2 so this should work
AFAIK Prius 2017 have the Touch 2 system. I have a Prius 2018 which I'll install pretty soon this CarABC module.

It's not as sharp as my phone, but it's readable. I use Spotify and Google Maps daily, and find those readable/useful.

So far no, it sounds great. EQ can be tweaked too. I set the far right and far left bars up just a smidge and it's where I want

Odd. Spray some air compressor/cleaner on the connections to the radio
@@EdwardInTX I have the same problem with a 2017 Toyota Rav4. Cleaning the connections doesn't help. Flickering original screen and no way to access the item menu.
what is a password for bluettoh?
just a pairing code that one device shows to verify to the other device to confirm it's the right one
