    I would also suggest that criminals would be using this to not only steal your car, but also know when your car is not at home, so they could break into your house when your car is not at home.

    People laugh at me for putting my steering wheel lock every time I park. I tell them, “if you’re in a rush to steal a car, are you going to go for the one that has a visible item you’d need a heavy big tool to cut or are you going to go for the sucker parked next to it with nothing on it”
    Now if they really want your car, they’re going to get it no matter what (when there’s a will there’s a way), but that extra time they’re taking to try and take it, someone might spot them or you might make it back in time.
    It also helps to drive manual knowing most people don’t know how to anymore 🤣

    • @stephenpike3147
      @stephenpike3147 2 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      Spot on and a very wise move - its a very effective and cost effective deterrent, you will always have the last laugh. My cheap autolok (handbrake to gear stick clamp in my manual car) saved me losing my vehicle. The potential thief smashed the key barrel of my drivers door (that was 50 quid to replace), opened it, saw the lock, kindly closing the door and moved on to take some other poor devils car, the police told me they had taken several that night in our village. Moral of story thieves usually want easy pickings with minimal effort and risk on their part.

      There is a sizable number of violent criminals being let out of jail lately. Also in some places thieves are permitted to steal and totally get away with it if it's under a certain amount money or value (like under $100 or something?). Stalking is a punishable offence too you know. You could get sued even if the person turns out to legitimately be involved in criminal activity. If they can prove you have been sitting out for hours in parking lots trying to stalk on people and tracking their activity in a private space, such as a parking lot, you can end up losing lots of money if the person is spiteful and wants to draw out a legal process for as long as possible to dry out your pockets in legal fees. People will try to financially ruin you if it comes down to them doing years behind bars. Be careful.

      The legal system doesn’t have much bearing on whether people become criminals or not, the fault lies in failings of other systems. I am not excusing crimes or saying that the criminals should not be held accountable, but a lot of people become thieves because they feel that they have no other options and they need money badly. Idk where you are from, but in the US, there are many stories about people stealing to feed their families, or to get enough money for medicine like insulin which is ridiculously expensive. And there are stories of people who rob a place and take a few dollars, then sit and wait for the police to come arrest them because they want to get the free food and shelter that jail provides. I read an article a while ago about a man who robbed a bank and was glad to be going to prison because his wife would get a life-saving surgery for significantly cheaper.
      The legal system works exactly as it is designed to, it is all the other systems that make criminals. Underfunded schools, underpaying jobs, exorbitantly high prices on healthcare and houses, both rent and mortgages. Meanwhile the police in most counties across the states receive a lion’s share of funding, and places like libraries, schools and homeless shelters continue to get cuts.

    When you find the AirTag before pulling out the battery, you can put it at the top of your iPhone’s NFC Band, (the same area that uses Apple Pay at Retail Shoppes).
    It will then flash up a screen that will link you to the Serial Number of the AirTag AND the last four digits of the Trusted Phone Number on File to the Apple ID of who originally registered it to themselves so it can work & track in the first place.
    So you can screenshot that and do not disconnect the AirTag yet so they aren’t aware and get the local law enforcement involved and they’ll get their ass.
    Also the Find My App for the person being tracked shows a full dash and red dot tracking system of where they were followed; so take a screenshot of that before tacking out the battery when the AirTag is found.
    Also take a picture of where the AirTag was on the vehicle before removal for more hard evidence

    This is good advice. Additionally: if able, purchase a vehicle that has tracking tech and/or engine disabling tech. Newer Priuses and other hybrids and EVs, for example, will automatically shut down if someone attempts to drive them without the key. Even if someone were to hotwire the car or hack the key, there are added features you can get to make sure your car shuts down if you are not behind the wheel. A stolen Prius will slow to a stop wherever it is if it gets too far from you. It will also automatically call the police for you if you opt for that setting/service, and you can track your car with an app if someone manages to override your car's anti theft system. You can also trigger the alarm from home and it may cause the thief to abandon the vehicle.

    Someone tagged my truck, I noticed it, immediately knew what it was, and left it on there. When I got home I attached my truck to my trailer and set my cameras to alert me for all movement. Dude jumped out of a car at the end of the road, walked down the cul de sac like he was just out for a stroll. Car waited at the other end by the park. I snuck over behind a big oak tree like 5 feet from the car in an old halloween costume when he was at the other end of the road. He walked up to it and had a tool in his hand. When he got like 3 feet away I jumped out and screamed as loud as I could “I WILL EAT YOUR FACE!!!” I’ve never seen anyone get more scared and run faster in my life, and he was heavy. I took the AirTag to the large traffic light at the main intersection and used a small foldable ladder to stick it like 10 feet high. I can only imagine what they looked like if they tried to find it.
    The video is useless bc I was on the other side of my truck and trailer that blocked the cameras, all you saw was a blur run by lol. That part was disappointing.

    If not already pointed out in comments, the Android App (by Apple) only makes you wait 10 minutes (not 20 minutes as stated in video).
    You have to be in range the entire 10 minutes, it will then allow you to turn on the speaker to emit an alarm so you can find it faster.
    The more savy criminals know this and they manually deactivate (destroy) the speaker in the device so you can't easily find it.
    If they take time to hide it well and deactivate the speaker, it can be considerably more difficult to find the tracker. At least you know its there and you will be able to find it eventually.

    These were used to track whenever my husband was going to work to stock Magic cards. They always knew exact time he would be at the store. He had crowds surrounding him anytime he went to each of his stores. Always the same people. One time he had week vacation and I went shopping with him with our kids and that same crowd surrounded us. Was scary. Eventually crowds got so bad, one of the stores filed a complaint against him for informing customers (which he wasnt doing). His boss followed up later and informed us about these trackers people were using to track some of the other employees. We didnt know what these trackers looked like so he used his other vehicle that he never drove and went to work. No crowds surrounded him that week. It was an airtag being used in his other vehicle.

    • @5PYZ3R
      @5PYZ3R 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      In that case, there's two different thieves you may need to consider. Crackhead joyride thieves that will steal any car, who don't know shit about cars, drive it around and leave it abandoned somewhere. You're right, by the numbers this kind of thief probably won't steal a manual.
      The other type are thieves that specifically target cars for stripping parts. 90's hondas are particularly vulnerable because of their performance potential (which means there's a much wider market for restoration and used parts). Most Honda thieves have modified Hondas of their own, manual is literally no concern, it's preferable because nobody wants automatic transmissions for a performance build.
      So if it's a 2005 then it's not a double wishbone suspension car like the 90s which makes it less desirable, and if it's an economy trim you're probably safe. But a manual k-series engine car such as a Civic Si is still an easy overnight payday. If you have a Honda relevant to tuners like I do, you have to treat it as if specialized thieves are literally hunting your car. It's 1000x worse. Manual transmissions are still a huge part of car culture young and old

There was a good friend of mine that didnt want to go out with a guy she met and she made it clear to him...turned out...he was a very very very bad guy...he used these "air tags" to stalk her, damage and breakinto her vehile when she was at work and broke restraining orders from 5 different countys...long short..he used these to follow her from her work...and ended up pinning her truck to a telephone pole and then ending her life with a fire arm...these are very serious and also a serious envasion of your personal whereabouts and personal privacy... so. GET THE APP FOR YOUR PHONE AND USE IT...SERIOUS STUFF...GOD BLESS US ALL!

    Thank you for this great public service ! Actually, ALL insurance companies should also advise their customers about how to help their clients deter car and other personal property thefts like you did here ! I am aware of a poor cancer patient in Montréal who had his car stolen 3 times and the worst it happened on days where he had to go get cancer treatments or see his oncologist specialist ! They stole his car within seconds during the night. Talk about the epitome of cruelty here ! They finally figured out he had a tracker hidden on his car ...it was removed, he parks the car elsewhere now and he got a steering wheel bar lock and the issue was solved. . .

      They won't because you already touch it so no point wasting time. Finger printing are mostly used on deadly crimes to add more for their cases to make impossible bond.
      Theft is more like if they know who is, they will just keep adding the value of the item was stolen to your case. Once it reaches to a certain point and worth it. Police department can set warrants and have bounty hunters. Either way. Reason they do that by the time you go to the court, the city has more weight to jail you up with bunch of years and do an impossible attorney to fight it. So yes it takes years to catch a criminal.

Not only has it spoiled people and made them lazy, I also believe technology plays a huge role in the decline of our populations mental health and emotional state. The more “advanced” we get, more and more people become mentally ill in one way or another. Nature has designed human beings to thrive in the natural world but instead we struggle in an artificial one. Just look at the tribal people in the world, like the Masai for example, they have zero technology yet they’re all very happy and stress free. We consider those people primitive yet they laugh at us and our ways.

    I’m glad Canadian police are being proactive, educating the public and actually help. About 6 months ago, someone at a shopping mall placed an Apple AirTag in my son’s stroller. Stuffed in between the frame and cushioning. My iPhone alerted me to it shortly after we left the shopping mall. I drove straight to the police station (Phoenix, AZ) and they didn’t want to take any action. They even asked me why I was there bothering them. I found the AirTag, pulled it out with a pair of pliers and left it in a trash can at the police station.
