The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

been a while since I played but it shouldn't be that expensive for either gold or magika.
try doing only 100 maybe 95. make sure the duration is 1 second. I cant remember if destruction leveling helped. pretty sure I used black soulgems and filled it with humanoids
You can also grind destruction by making a weak drain life on yourself repeatedly.

@@noxflo897 Funny enough, there were a decent amount of ancient Atmorans and Nords that were practitioners of arcane magic during that time period. I believe even some of the Companions used magic as well to help along with their conquest. Also, the Thu'um itself is a form of magic, so funny enough the point still stands.
Cold Lightning9 Not only that but Tsun calls lets you into Shor's hall if you say you are the archmage. Apparently wizard were once highly respected in Skyrim and called "clevermen"
@@Mars20231 Pretty much cements the point that you need some grasp of magic to accomplish a noteworthy great deed in the TES verse. Many of the souls in Sovngarde were Mages or Tongues, other notable warriors were blessed or had a strong, enchanted piece of weapons and gear. Many of the ancient Nords were even decent at magic. That one guy, can't remember the name, where you had to help that Dunmer get into his tomb on Solstheim. He was a Nord and was described as a genius in the Enchantment school, even becoming strong enough to manipulate and corrupt the mind.
It really shows you how stupid minded the current Nords are being. They don't even understand that they're talking down to and disgracing many of their ancestors that paved the way for them with magic. It's no wonder the Thalmor are having a field day with manipulating them against each other.

Just download the Dragonborn DLC and find that one Black Book where Hermaus Mora gives you the option of gaining the ability for your allies to be completely immune to all of your attacks. Problem solved.
@Human Resources I've used console commands for for resurrecting the dead. The spell is quicker, and more handy.

I really wish destruction were more nuanced in Skyrim. All we get is the fire/frost/shock magics and nothing else, and I really miss the spells that would make foes become weaker to elements, or that simply drained their atributes. It allowed me to make a less flashy destruction mage in the previous games. Not to mention how underpowered this school (and magic in general) became

@@Randy_Flamethrower There are mods, true enough, but my point is that the Destruction magic we get in game doesn't do justice to what is seen in lore, or in the previous games. Much was removed, and few novelties were added. I just think the next TES installment would benefit from a more fleshed out variety of Destruction spells
Making a enemy weaker is cool and all but shooting a ball of fire seems to me more practical.
Why not make an enemy weaker and fucking annihilate them with the fireball instead of just hurting them

A cool and memorable location to add in a future elder scrolls would be a sanctuary/hospital for mages who suffered from magical accidents to go to. So you’d meet mages who are permanently invisible or burned or turned into an animal ect ect; basically the possibilities for interesting characters would be endless. I think you could also help some of them become normal again through practice of magic and research. Kinda like quests or how new Vegas required you to have supplies or a specific medical skill to help people

Get anything destruction magic is the face of Magic. It could be considered possibly the easiest to learn the hardest to master. Any mage can learn how to use ice fire and lightning. It's possibly also the easiest to prepare yourself against unlike the other schools of magic. You can wind up harming yourself just as much is harming others.
Pretty much. No matter what discipline you take in the schools of magic, every single respectable Mage has at least a decent handling of Destruction magic.
Complete masters of Destruction have been described as utterly disintegrating foes with a wave of the hand, turn people inside and out, and splitting the ground asunder. Definitely the most useful of schools for a good reason.

OG Haze what about alteration? With illusion you can turn dreams into reality, but to literally change the world around you to “turn dreams into reality”? You gotta admit that sounds pretty hard to master. Btw still love the heck out of the illusion school of magic though :).
@@elric7415 I mean alteration's possibilities are limitless. Someone with a more scientific approach to the world could easily learn to use alteration to change the chemical makeup of the very atmosphere around them, turn a dry field into a field of freshly seared animal flesh ready to be cut and served, it could allow someone to create a castle with a snap of their fingers, or alter the user's physiology in order to be able to live in any environment.
The applications are varied and useful in day to day life as well as combat, but hey fuck me its only armor and gold for the game's purposes.

You mentioned drain health spells around ^:00, and that's how I played oblivion. You can set a 100pt drain enchant on a weapon for 1 second, and that's more health than a lot of enemies. The game thinks that 1 second of drain health is weak, so the enchant is cheap; but it's an instant kill. Put it on a fast attack speed dagger, and you cut through everything like butter.

Magick was awesome in Morrowind. I had a custom spell that paralyzed everything in a wide area while also applying insanely op amounts of damage. It was basically a city busting spell.

They are at once polar opposites, yet somehow there is some overlap. As is the nature of all dualistic relationships. Please keep the philosophical content coming, I love it so much.

The disease part of Distruction magick fascinates me. It may be not good for direct combat, but if you want to hurt people slowly and without confrontation is great. It can be very subtle.
STILL Restoration is my favourite category of magick.

I enjoyed these videos regarding the schools of magic, and I'm disappointed they've all been covered... I hope you make a couple similar videos regarding alchemy and enchanting, styled in a lecture like these ones. And Possibly move onto other skills.

My favorite destruction magic move is the combo of a very powerful fortify destruction potion and lightning cloak. Clears a dungeon out almost immediately, turning everyone to ashes.
I would say that the schools of destruction and restoration are one and the same. You can use "destruction" magic to burn a log, in which process you would create new matter, a feat more usually associated with restoration. In turn, when using restoration, one could argue that to heal injuries, one would have to break down cells (destroy) to re-arrange them into healthy tissue. In both cases, one has played with the forces of life and death.
Now, in order to cure diseases we would usually employ the restoration school of magic. Wouldn't killing pathogens be considered a destructive process?

I love the deep understanding and subtleties of Destruction. Destruction, paired with Restoration, can be thought of as deconstruction and reconstruction. But as one mage in the Bravil Mages Guild hall said "And lets face it. Blowing things up is ever so much fun!"
Destruction and alteration too, i cant help but think that a more scientifically minded person, thrust into the dream that is tamriel, would be capable of pulling some full metal alchemist level and beyond magics.
of course, then again... if they were thrust into the world of the elderscrolls and they KNEW it wasnt real but also that they were, would that mean that they just spawn in with CHIM?

Destruction magic is one of the most underestimated schools. By that I believe it to be vastly underutilized due to it generally being used in an overly straight forward way.
Most use it to simply ply elements and and other forces to inflict damage. Where I believe there is clear secondary uses for most of the spells. Most clearly; the elemental spells stick out.
Fire could be used both for utility in cooking, camp fires, and the coderizing of wounds. But could also be used as a power source via heat for steam powered machines.
Cold has the utility of preserving food aswell as regulating one's temperature in hot environments.
And Lightning has the most obvious utility of Electricity for power, but could also be used as a form of restoration, by reviving the recently dead.
I honestly think it's a failing of most games that you don't see more repurposing of destruction type magic for non-combative needs.
Late comment, but that also shows a flawed categorization of the schools as well. Each school has spells that go out of their school definition and said school definition has a broad overlapping definition.

Great video. I'd say that the advancement of destruction as a school would be hindered primarily because its initial aspects are so useful and applicable to the needs of the mighty, powerful, and well monied.
I just thought about something. Sure you could say that that lack of spell variety in Skyrim is just a shortcut or whatever but what if the real reason is because of how magic is treated in Skyrim? Magic is shunned by most people so there simply isn’t many skilled practitioners to teach a variety of spells. Would also line up with previous games as well.
Whenever I play a magic-user (i.e. all the time), I try to level up Destruction and Restoration in tandem with each other. As you said, they're equal opposites. These two are the toughest skills to level without cheating, though, so I almost never succeed without abusing a cheat mod or console command.

Fudgemuppet, can you make a modded build based on the Redguard Sword Singers?
Try these mods: a bound sword mod, the redguard knight armour, imbued weapons, imperious races, andromeda, ordinator, immersive weapons(for the cool looking scimitars), Redguard knight shields(or something like that), the warrior's ki.
I thought they had already to be honest with you. You might what to look up their past vids I'm pretty sure they have. But I could be wrong.

Destruction, Restoration, Enchantment and Conjuration are the main forms of magic I like to use in Skyrim. Along with sometimes using alteration.

SKILLS: Heavy Armor, two hand, restoration, archery, sneak.
MODS: Vampire Lord perk overhaul, werewolf perk overhaul, heavy Nightingale armor.
Backstory: Basically he was a solider in the imperial army but always wanted to be a vigilant of stendar. After his service was up, he decided to make his way back to the land of his ancestors. Caught at the border, he eventually reenlists in the imperial army. Finds out he's Dragonborn, and kills Alduin. Unfortunately his time in the war has changed him and killing Alduin has darkened his heart even more. Vampire Lord/Werewolf hybrid is the way to go.
SHOUTS: Animal control, detect shout, storm call, and summon dihinivahr which will become soul tear.

I like the idea of a Star Mage, a mage seeking your harness the power of aetherius via directly manipulating the energy from stars directly. That would be a top tier caster on the level of many Archmages from various magical orders. It might even be that one must be on such a level to pursue Star Magic to begin with. Hey man great video. Really agreed with a lot of your points. One point of advice though when it comes to the books in the game if you see v. 4, v. 5 etc, the v means “volume” not “version”
....But somewhere in Apocrypha, the ashes are reassembled into documented form, the secrets and potential of not only Destruction Magic still live in the infinite library...
Here's a freebie no mod build idea for ya. The houndmaster. Character that uses animals to fight for him..... mostly dogs. Maybe he's a werewolf as well.... or maybe a vampire that uses death hounds. I image an archer cuz he's a hunter. Maybe he uses traps.... I like the idea of poison traps. It would make sense because he heals his dogs as well because he loves them more than most people. Make him super scruffy because he lives outside most of the time.

My first character was a destruction mage. Got boring after a while. This time, I'm playing an immortal restoration/1h tank who still gets sent to the stratosphere by giants.
Off topic but I think in TES6 restoration spells should cost much more magicka because in oblivion and skyrim you can basically spam them though it shouldn't be like in Morrowind where magika doesn't recharge at all without resting.

Hey fudgemuppit I have a thought about elder scroll VI the plot will probably be in my opinion something to do with bringing back the dwemmer. That is because hammer fell has dwemmer ruins plus no one knows what happened under red mountain so they could still be out there somewhere possibly biding their time. Remember the line in the dragon born prophecy "when the brass tower walks and time is reshaped..." The brass tower never got the chance to walk so that has not happened yet. Please do a video on this topic.
