Does anybody know?...Back in the 1980's the country radio station would play this song but there was more instrumental music and the singer didn't pause with the music. I believe it was Leroy Van Dyke but I can't remember. I thought that version was the best but i can't find it on TH-cam.
Ok so at the Calgary Stampede is a really fancy art auction. Big names are selling their pieces. People show up in tuxedos and are sipping Champaign. Faye and I show up after the go-round just for fun to see what all fuss is about. They were not going to let us in because, well, you know, I smelled like horse and had on jeans and boots, still had my spurs on. Anyway I showed them my contestant badge and they let me in. Beautiful artwork, omg. bronzes, one of a kind painting. etc. Show time, LOL, someone forgot to hire an auctioneer for art. So at the last minute the powers that be went to the local auction barn and hired the local guys to present and sell the art. As you know, this kind of art sale is fancy Dan, no loud talking, wiggle a finger to bid, etc. The two auctioneers show up in their best western attire. Cowboy hats and all. Now I can see the faces of the crowd and Faye and I start to giggle then laugh out loud. The first piece comes up on the stand and the guy starts just like the man in the song, By now Faye and I are having a happy fit at all the hoity tutties in the tuxes and long dresses. The guy is slapping his hog stick on the counter and hollering, give me X, Give me Y. You get the picture. Bottom line the auction was a bust for the stampede but great for buyers.
After hearing this, I had my buddy listen to it ..... Amazing vocal performance.
