FM really didn't deserve to win, and while I don't particularly like The Crew, it sure was a damn sight more polished than FM was, even now. Hell, if EA Sports WRC was nominated, I genuinely think it would have blown them both out.

I’m a diehard veteran forza fan, have played the past crew games, but didn’t get around to motorfest. But I can confidently say motorfest should have EASILY won. It’s actually outrageous how possibly one of the most broken and unfinished games of this year won. But it’s most likely “oh nice graphics.” And then they voted that.

Honestly this isn’t just a problem for the racing genre, it’s spreading across other genres as well. We have the people who buy and defend these broken games and their opinions out number ours
Everyone knows that the Game Awards are a joke.
Last year's own Game Awards were only tuned in due to the Player's Voice War between Sonic and Genshin, and also to tune in on the kid who nominated his Rabbi, Bill Clinton.
But the worst part is that the big companies don't care, and look at the profits of being branded a title, and games like Motorsport can easily fool those who don't know the finer details of gaming.
It's like putting a bunch of old people as judges in a kids dance contest, and one group gives the most mediocre performance ever, but they throw confetti, and for the judges that's enough to give a high score

While Cyberpunk had a horrible botched launch. That game at least had a great story, world and SOUL underneath the massive mess.
2022 GOTY for me... yeah 2020 dec release, but I refuse to consider it a release. Anything before 1.6 (Edgerunners update) is just an overpriced early access. 1.3 is where they got my vote of confidence that it's gonna be patched good...so bought physical half price, but not worth my time until 1.6, haven't played a single minute before that, one of my best gaming choices.
Forza on the other hand is like the AC Valhalla of racing games but even worse... soulless corporate mess.
TCM I'm not touching, 'cuz thank God I'm not in the Ubisoft ecosystem. However it's general appreciation on YT makes me concede that would have been a worthy winner for general public.
Me personally would likely prefer EAS WRC once I get to it in half a year or so. Of the nominees F1 and Hot Wheels 2 look decent, but they are only eternal backlog limbo levels of interest at the moment.
The Crew is another big mess too.

Yeah, racing genre is not about sport only, its also about fun, so here is also alot arcade games, i think into SPORT category should been placed only racing games which is are name themselves like "Racing Sims" or even "Arcade" "Simulator" and "Sports" should be separated on these three own categories

I was so upset when I saw FM take the award for the racing game of 2023. With all the issues, glitches, missing content, and lack of gameplay in the game, why anyone thought it deserved this award still beats me. Clearly, it won because it's a Forza game and not because it's actually good. Absolutely disgraceful...
It’s got a great gameplay loop for starters. Yea, I’m weird, I like it better than the gameplay loop we had in FM4, but going from practice to race, plus receiving experience for doing a good job is very satisfying. The cars are extremely responsive and control great (silently judging Motorfest for its god awful handling). It’s a great looking game (less relevant I know) and the progression of modifying cars, to my own surprise, is just incredibly satisfying to see your little baby boy slowly get tuned up as you race the world together. I’ll admit, it’s not a game for everyone, it should not have launched so broken on PC, and the always online requirement is stupid, but there is a genuine audience for this game, it just wasn’t for you, and that’s fine

Even the Forza subreddit was asking "WTF is wrong with game awards". Then again, we know they have been off for years. Something the PS subreddit finally realized this year, after Spidey not getting anything in his 7 nominations.
If BG3 and hifi didn't exist SM2 would have had a chance. BG3 is on another level though. I haven't experienced an rpg on this level in what feels like 20 years.

And also I genuinely like Forza Motorsport better, I dunno I just feel like it smashes GT’s current gameplay loop to dust (also latest GT7 update somehow removed aerodynamic grip, making Daytona impossible to drive correctly on, and I’m salty)
No I would say most of the awards this year were actually genuinely deserved from an objective standpoint. Alan Wake 2 is a masterpiece of a story-driven linear game and BG3 is a masterpiece of an RPG.
However, I could not say the same for categories like racing. Voting should be split 50/50 for judges and outside voters IMO.

Some months ago, a Santa Monica writer said that TGA is just literally a popularity contest, if there is just a big name in one category, it probably's gonna win, no matter the state it's in, it only changes when that said big game has an HUGE, overwhelming negative reactions (which is exactly what happened to Cyberpunk for example), sadly the race community is not that big for them to care that they literally choose the most broken game in that category, that's the harsh reality
I've been with the Forza franchise for 18 years, since day 1.
FM8 didn't deserve to win. Hot Wheels got robbed, Motorfest got robbed, WRC got shafted by not being nominated. Ride 5? Lego 2K? MotoGP? TT Isle of Mann 3? Fucking F-ZERO 99! We had HEATERS for games (maybe not 2K's mtx) but it went to the wet fart of the genre right now.
You just reminded me that F-Zero 99 came out this year - and it totally deserved to at least be nominated. It's a lot of fun.

Fan-voted awards aren't the answer. Have a look at what happened at last year's The Game Awards for the Players' Choice award, where Genshin Impact and Sonic Frontiers were among the frontrunners (ultimately, Genshin Impact would go on to win it).

This just says too me that developers can lie to you about a product and say things like built from the ground up and the most technological advance racing game ever, and unmatched visual fidelity, then release the product to the public showing a half-ass effort, with significant bugs and glitches so much so that the game shouldn't have been released in the first place, and still win awards! WTF is the gaming industry coming too?
The Hot Wheels Unleashed Organizers will be coming after the people running The Game Awards.
Trust me, the Organizers have the unholy tech to turn humans into Racing Drones like in the AcceleRacers movies. They've been doing it since the first Hot Wheels Unleashed and now they'll do it again to those who deserved it as they've reduced the adult population to near endangered species-level.
They need to re-evaluate the voting aspect and the people who voted which games online.

I've been a huge fan of racing games, but I've been into more of a unique style of racing games( NFS, FH, The Crew titles, etc.) than the more original, traditional style of racing games( forza motorsports, f1, etc.) I do still like the OG style of racing games, but now these days more people want something different from the racing games and 3 of the games in this category fit that criteria for a unique racing game. That's just my opinion.
I am absolutely fed up of Forza being rated so high for doing bare minimum. When other studios are actually trying their best and producing interesting games. It's fine to have preference but so many Forza fans still claiming it's the best thing out there.
What pisses me off is that since Motorsport won against more deserving games like Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 and Crew Motorfest, casuals that don't care about racing games are gonna look at the former thinking THAT'S the "golden standard" for racing games going forward. Which it sure as hell isn't judging by the community's response.
Turn10 is gonna look at their award knowing full well they def paid the judges off. Because after they won? THEY'RE not gonna care abt Motorsport anymore because they'll think they've done enough with it. Why put any more effort into actually improving your buggy shitfest of a simcade if you've taken home the award for best game in the racing category?
If you're TGA, giving the most broken game your best sports/racer award over the polished titles like Motorfest and HW Unleashed 2 shows that it's not just rigged, you're literally REWARDING the bad games for doing below the bare-fucking-minimum. In one evening they managed to uplift all the bad games that won their categories, and then DE-VALUED the overall BETTER games that didn't.
I wanted HW Unleashed 2 to win because it made the most sense. Major improvements from the original, more game modes, a sticker editor, more cars and so much more that i could argue makes it the de-facto arcade racer, if not THE best racer of 2023 period. But TGA finds Forza Motorsport to be much more racing goty material cause of brand recognition? Why should a franchise like that be REWARDED for churning out garbage that is just downright riddled with crappy AI and even worse bugs and glitches that would make Cyberpunk laugh? Especially when you have the other nominees that are far more polished, playable and just outright feel & look good to play? WHY reward Forza for the opposite of that?🤦♂️

Misleading trailers, the same AI as previous iterations, missing content that was shown in the trailers, an incredibly bland “campaign,” constant softlocks at launch, constant bugs that caused progress resets, incredibly inconsistent performance on PC despite having the recommended hardware, inconsistent graphics quality, bland and corporate art direction and style, the game literally refusing to boot up for some, car models from multiple generations back still being used in this generation, car interiors even being missing, lying about bug fixes when most of them are STILL not fixed two months into launch.
This is RGOTY? We will never beat the mid allegations at this rate.

It's wild that these big companies, studios, labels, awards, influencers etc just make it more and more obvious that they dont care about us. 10% is what we're worth? After making all these companies rich? And this is way beyond just video games. There's too many "how tf did that one win? Why would they go that direction after all the feedback from us?" moments and people keep talking about a "disconnection". Nah. It's about time we seriously just do our own thing and from gamers-by gamers award shows like that are the perfect step forward. We are the ones in power once we all come together.
I love racing games, going all the way to the F Zero days or tuning your Pike's Peak Suzuki to break the sound barrier in GT. Doing the endurance races in GT3 A-Spec and discovering Pagani, which I had never heard of at the time.

When forza is considered the be-all and end-all of racing games these days, it's a joke, I look forward to the days when there's a variety of racing games to check out and love besides Forza again on the mainstream.

ngl, I can't even give a opinion on FM cuz I couldn't play without the map disappearing from up under me, it crashing, or me not being able to import my designs/decals from other forza games. I guess that's enough said.
whats funny is that at release forza horizon 5 wasn't in its best state and they won the exact same categories as fm8

I would say that The Crew MotorFest should’ve won, I really like that game.
It’s like the judges raced a lap in each racing game with controller. And based their vote on 5 mins of play. Or they got paid off
Uh racing is a sport, don't know why you say you don't think it should be categorized as a sport.
Especially for full-time Racers you have to be physically fit an Endur awful conditions like the weather the Heat.
Believe it or not you actually have to drive the car right on the right racing line even if you're just going in circles you got to know how to hit your apexes come into the turns right and come out of the turns.
It's not like sitting in your car at home just casually driving down the road so yeah in that regard racing is a sport.

Motorfest shouldn't even be in the nomines at the moment patch-notes to fix problems, but only manages to make the game worse. ubisoft customer support doesn't give a flying fcuk when it cones to customer support . I bought forza motorsport completed 1 race then deleted the thing, another £100 up the swanny
Well this was basically a participation award just for being there because we all know the crew should have won. This is why I stopped taking Geoff’s award show seriously years ago.
