It's not just about testosterone. This movie has a really good script, acting and atmosphere. It's not some mindless violence, shooting and jump scares. You feel the dread around the group, as the predator could be anywhere, even listening to them. The fact that he wants to hunt them 1x1 makes it even more scarier.

The beauty of the movie is it’s all a game to the predator. It wants all the smoke. The more testosterone the better the adversary/prey for the predator. Shane Black is a really good writer/director.

That and the fact it ties into and around Native American and other ancient mythology about Wendigos, and Skinwalkers and that in the script these guys got nothing as to what it is and are starting to rely on superstition makes it a good scary story and action movie as Arnold of course takes a stand.

As iconic and memorable as the T-800 is, Dutch is easily the best character Arnie ever played. He isn’t just charismatic and badass, he is also extremely intelligent, very vulnerable and most impressively, he grows as a character.
Dutch knows strength and skill won’t beat the Predator. He needs to outsmart it. He gathers as much intel on his opponent as possible, deducing a lot of information on pure observation alone, and then uses the clever tactics to defeat the creature based on that intel. Even then, he isn’t perfect.
Most of Dutch’s strategies fail due the Predator’s own intelligence and ingenuity, which helps illustrate how much of a genuine threat it is, and such mistakes result in serious consequences, namely the death of his teammates. However, he learns.
With each defeat and each setback, Dutch gathers more intel. He learns from his mistakes. Even when he loses all his teammates and most of his supplies and weapons, he makes one last attempt to defeat the Predator. Not just because it is his only means of salvation, but because he finally knows what to do, he finally knows how to beat it. He takes what little resources he has and creates a battle plan that leaves no stone unturned. He’s so confident, in fact, he actually invites the Predator to battle with a loud war cry. The final battle commences and after a long, brutal struggle, Dutch ultimately, and deservedly, emerges victorious.
Arnie will forever be remembered as the T-800, but there’s no denying Dutch was his best role. He isn’t just a super cool, unstoppable killing machine, he’s a skilled strategist with relatable weaknesses which he learns how to overcome to improve himself. Dutch didn’t just serve as the movie’s leader character, he was a leader character. He was an inspiring warrior who could fight alongside his men, while at the same time ensuring they get out alive and inflict maximum damage on the enemy.
There’s a reason the Predator took off his mask in front of Dutch and not Billy, and this is the reason why.

I love the inherent strength of Anna's character. She's in a desperate situation and she's terrified but she's not weak. She's cunning and is a survivor.
I love the tonality of her voice when she tells Dutch her name when he asks. There's no uncertainty in her voice. She maintains unbroken eye contact and it's as though she's claiming an shoulder to shoulder position to him when she does so. He grants her the opportunity to graduate from prisoner to an equal and she jumps at the opportunity without hesitation. She understands that they all need each other to survive and that they need to work as a team.
This is how you write a strong female character. And this was in the 80s.

I love how during Dutch's realization, the camera tilts just slightly upward to show off the jungle. That movement with the music makes the jungle seem more intimidating; it's no longer just the setting and a backdrop of the film, but it's something to be feared and examined for survival now.

If you want to see something really impressive, a huge scene shot in one take, type in 'The Protector 2005 Long take', and watch that, its like nothing ive ever seen before. Theres one cut, which is about 5 seconds into the clip, and then for 4 mins the same camera just follows the guy up all the stairs while he beats people up, its insane. well worth 4 mins of your time. @@tacticalcrusader3709 to be fair the predator in part one killed alot of soldiers and green berets the fact it stalked and followed one cop I did like it a little because we start to learn more about the predators but the predator in part one killed hundreds of rebels enemy troops and more kinda seems ehhh like why would a predator hunt in a city there won't even be much challenges predators go after the ones that can actually fight and are trained but the one in part two just kills people that can barely hold a gun I'd say predator one was the best out of all predators went from actually hunting troops too the most deadlyest troops on earth too this one that goes after law abiding citizens gang members and cops.

So many people think this is just a mindless monster/action movie because of the garbage sequels. They are wrong. This movie is an absolute masterpiece. The combination of perfect music and the way they pan the camera around. The actors might not be Daniel Day Lewis but every one of them is 100% believable and none are simple caricatures. I honestly don't know what could have been done to make it better.

Given his size and density, the Pred was probably in excess of 400 pounds. The fact he could move through the trees was most likely a leftover from the original sleek design. Few tree branches could handle that weight, not to mention that when he made his appearance he was more of a slow hulk than a fast runner and jumper.

One of the best most intense on the edge of your seat movies of all time. I love Carl weather's but man in this movie his character was sneaky and ignorant. In this clip that's like what the 3rd time the girl said the jungle took a guy and Carl STILL thinks it's 2 to 3 men out there. And this was AFTER the predator avoided their claymores and flares to grab Ventura's body right under their noses! It's until he finally sees it in the trees himself.

All of a sudden the game changes. The vast jungle that they have been using as cover has been watching them all along and being surrounded by trees in every direction has completely exposed them. With nowhere left to run the only thing they can do is get the facts so they have something to work with and stand their ground to the best of their abilities against this unseen killer. Corner his team and you’ll see how dangerous they can be. That’s what Dutch is serving out.
