Bill Duke sold this movie, hands down. His delineation of an unseen unknown enemy was amazing

Ol' Painless. I always liked how the plasma caster is a cool inversion of the mini gun. It's got an ooky mechanical noise, it kills instantaneously, it's some very far out, high technology and it is total overkill for going to fight in the jungle.

I love how not one member of the team hesitated to open fire along side mac. They heard their boy shooting and came running to back him up.
If you listen, Mac yells Contact. That means he has engaged a confirmed hostile force. To my knowledge, this is 100% the way it would have gone down.

What I appreciate much about this movie is the manifestation of true warrior soldiers mantra. They call each other by name. Rank is insignificant because they are brothers - beyond shape, status, and color. Why can't we see through the perspective of the characters. Definitely a classic.

Don't know y critics dismiss this as a mindless action movie! It has great acting, an awesome story, and a great cast...probably the hottest, the manliest group of male actors ever assembled 🤩& a gorgeous heroine. Arnie looks his best in this movie.

Movie did a good job to show you these were hard men. top tier. And to show how each was surprised to see fear in the other. Fear was not familiar to them. Those long pauses to show one sensing the fear in others, and then realizing he should feel fear.

@JustDeplorable it is a military procedure if someone start shooting and shout contact the rest will do the same. especially in the jungle where visibility is limited.
That was one thing I pointed out the first time I saw this lmao I was like, nobody asked questions they just opened fire, homies.
What a scene man I just love this scene.
Dammm...for me that would have sent alarm bells ringing when Dutch asks Mac what happened. "I saw it" not " I saw him or them" combined with the look of fear and fright on Mac's face on what he has seen its left for the rest of the team to only imagine what he witnessed.
Still a great film after all these years.
This is the brilliant thing about the writing for these characters. We see a great example of the relationships between them in this scene; they don’t know what they’re firing at, but they don’t question his judgment, they get there in seconds to back him up (this shows how prompt and reliable they are, how much they care about their friend and fellow soldier) and just open fire. I also love how realistic this scene is, because the characters actually run out of ammunition unlike most action movies where it seems like they have an unlimited supply. *Predator* is a terrific movie and it deserves all of its recognition.

One of the best scenes on film.When Bill Duke picked that mini gun up and layer into that thing's ass .Awesome!!! Saw that movie in the theater when it came out and when he opened up with that mini gun,the damn floors shook.

I remember the first time I saw this scene, I was big into halo at the time so pred's active camo just blew me away, then the eye flash. That just shit my whole self, still gives me chills watching it.

Why did the Predator go after Blaine?
I always wondered that.
Then when i grew up i realised it is because Blaine had a mini gun. He posed the biggest threat. So the Predator didnt want to risk at all. Just blasted him with the cannon. Amazing movie.
You’re absolutely correct. Blain was all alone and carrying the Minigun, so the creature would logically target him. Unfortunately, his plan went awry when he missed the first shot and then Mac got there in seconds, forcing him to run. If you notice, the creature used two different blasters on Blain; perhaps he panicked when the first one missed because now Blain knew he was there and so quickly scrambled to blow a hole through his chest and make sure he couldn’t get back up. This is another testament to the great writing, showing that the creature was smart and tactical but at the same time not infallible.

scene was supposed to show it making errors. that it isn't perfect. the spear was supposed to decapitate him.
spear misses and it almost gets killed. it isn't a flawless killing machine. more animal than human you can outwit it.
Look closely, it's intact.
The blast would've been more wider if the pack blew up, the shot was made at an angle that entered just below his shoulder blade and burst out of the chest, the entry point is always smaller than the departure.

Interesting thing is that cloaking technology is being worked on. Could you imagine, in the future, the first enemy squad to encounter a soldier in cloaking gear? Would probably have this same reaction.
The same reaction already happens in war time without cloaking gear...get a squad panicked enough wandering through enemy territory.
I remember back in 87, when it came out on DVD, I was excited to finally watch it, I never was more excited to see a movie like this, all time great on my list
