  • I found an old Slavia 618 air rifle, in my attic, that belonged to my grandfather. The rifle didn't work, so I fixed it to the best of my ability with the available tools. Screwdrivers, hammer, hot glue, a welding machine, silicone spray and some elbow grease.
    The rifle works even though the welding is not great but with how much space I had to weld it's more than satisfactory. The leather seal was fried because of the welding so I replaced wit with HOT GLUE which works surprisingly well as a sealant, at least for those couple of test shots I did.
    How much hotglue did I use? I think 1 and a half stick, 1 stick being 10cm long. Then I spun the piston around until the glue got cold to the touch and I roughly molded it with my fingers to the desired shape.
    I cleaned the rifle body with some soapy water and a toothbrush but I don't think it made any difference as the gunk buildup was quite heavy. Lastly I used some silicone spray to lube the rifle body and the piston.

    I rebuilt a beat up Slavia 618 recently. The seal was gone, so I removed the old one and made a new seal from genuine leather to match the original. There is no screw where the seal goes, but the only satisfying solution I found for that is "tapping" the hole to create screw threads. After that, I was able to squeeze the leather piston seal in and secure it with a screw (which is most common in old air rifles). It shoots great now. Hot silicone doesn't hold over time, and I doubt it's good for the housing, since it shreds and melts with heat/friction. As for the broken metal part in your example, if I were you I'd weld it from the top after removing the top rivet and drilling a hole through the thing. The rivet can be welded back on after that. I am only theorizing here since I haven't had that problem, but I don't see why it wouldn't work well. It would make a much stronger weld in my opinion. Thanks for the videos. Great stuff!

      Hello @Abe Aboud, thank you for sharing your approach to the sealing problem. I used what I had on hand so hot glue it was. The glue will most likely not hold long, and I also can't speak how good the weld holds since it was a really tight spot to weld in. However, I didn't use the rifle since I made the video, so if I keep this up it'll hold for a life time ;)
      But if I do happen to use it and it breaks down I will try your sealing method. As for the middle latching bar, I think it is made of one solid piece , so in that case it may be easier to cut the top part of the cylinder off with a grinder, weld the bar in place (hopefully straight) and then weld the top part back and grind the outside of the cylinder - but even then there would have to be no excess welding material inside the cylinder so the spring can move freely.

    Hello i have one quest , on piston seal you have bolt-screw?or cotter?

    • @jackalldiytech
      @jackalldiytech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. I wish there was a screw, it was a rivet or something that I couldn't remove. That's why the leather melted, or whatever was used as a seal, when I welded the center piece.

      Hey @Roger Wertz I'm guessing the latching part (hook) is worn out? If that the case what you could try doing is one of the 2 things that come to mind, though I am no expert so maybe someone else can chime in.
      #1 you could use a welder to add some material and a grinder to shape it.
      #2 you could drill a hole, put a screw inside and grind the screw down. For this you would need a vice or something else to hold the trigger, a drill and a drill bit, you would also need to make threads for the screw, a screw of your choice, grinder to grind the screw to desired shape.
