I literally just cut them in half and turn flesh side down on a sheet pan and put in the oven until tender. Then the flesh scoops right out. Easy peasy!!
We do the same, then turn them over and put butter, brown sugar and cinnamon in them and finish roasting. So easy to scrape them out as they are so tender. So moist and tender. I wouldn't have the strength to cut them like Tom has to make all those cuts and peel them. I love watching Tom and Melissa!
I just found your channel, yesterday, and have been pretty much binge watching. I love your recipes, and the patience and detail that you exhibit is much appreciated. Seasoned cooks and novice alike can benefit from your teaching style. I bet your students adored y'all! Hugs to you both from a sister in Christ.
As with pumpkins, I cut them in half lengthwise, scrape them clean, rub the inside and edges with olive oil and salt them a bit. Then I lay them on a baking sheet facedown and bake them. When they come out, you can scoop them from the "shell" and puree them for soups.
That is a really nice story you shared about Ashley and providing you with the Butternut Squash. 🥰 I always told myself you are such a natural at teaching, and here I find out you were once a teacher. I bet your students just loved you. Hearing about Ashley and all she does as a grown adult, Mom, BeeKeeper and homeschool teacher, really makes you proud. 🥰 My appologies, I always say Hello Tom and Melissa in the beginning, however I was so excited about Ashley. Chef Jean Pierre has a wonderful Butternut Squash Bisque soup and a regular Butternut Squash Soup. This is a recipe I will definitely try. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe and the tips and tricks. Have an awesome day. 🌞🌞😋😋
Ashely is a great school success story. We are very proud of her. She is a remarkable young lady and a wonderful wife and mother. Thank you so much for watching our video. We really do appreciate it.
I cut mine in half, length ways de seed it then cut out the flesh leaving about 1 cm all around the skin, I pan fry the cubed flesh, with bacon and oinion capiscums and pre cooked rice, with a little nutmeg , I then put it all back in the shell, make a mustard sauce and pour over then put it in the oven, covered, until shell is cooked, If I am roasting it, I leave the skin on, cut it in rounds ( removing seeds as we go) place on baking paper with a little oil, and seasoning of choice and just roast as it,
We grow our own and just love it! Our fav way is a medley of carrots, brussel sprouts and squash. Olive oil and ‘natures seasonings’. Baked the same as you.
I just wanted to say thank you for your videos and recipes. I had never had butternut squash before until last year. Someone who was invited to our Thanksgiving brought a ready to heat up premade version from the store. I don't know what all was in it but it was nasty! So boldly after seeing your video I attempted this and took it to my family gathering. Everyone ate it up! Thank you for going slow and taking it step by step in your videos so that those of us that do not know what we are doing can follow along and be successful with our dishes. If you taught in school the way you cook in your video, I am sure you were very good at your job. I had a teacher many years ago that was that way and I still talk about him to people today. Thanks again!
I can tell you must have been a wonderful teacher! What a gift you have in sharing knowledge & confidence! The world needs much more of this. Even as adults, we’re still learning. We never know it all! Bless you for giving yourself to others. ❤️
Oh my gosh !! I love butternut squash .. my hubby being from Cuba he loves Cuban red beans with butternut squash in it.. I love it just boiled with butter but I’ll have to try this ❤❤.. thank y’all so much
This is exactly the way I roast my Butternut Squash. I just add a bit of butter after they've come out of the oven. I grew Butternut Squash a couple of years ago in one of my little raised beds. It was a fun experience to watch them grow. I learned about the female and male flowers and how to 'self-pollinate' the female flowers with a Cutip. I got about 30+ squash from 5 plants by the time I harvested them all! I gave several away to anyone that wanted a couple! Since they're winter squash they hold very well in a cool, dry spot, and I still had perfectly good squash a year later!! I never grew them again, but it was an interesting experiment! :) ~~M~~
That butter tip is worth remembering! Our friend grew hers to keep critters out of her garden and she said it was successful. Thank you so much for watching our channel. We really appreciate it.
That really looks delicious 😋 I found y’all last week and just love your videos. May God continue to bless your channel. Appreciate y’all from South Alabama.
My son and I have recently started watching your videos here in Hawaii. He said that he enjoys your videos because you're a great teacher. We make sure we check out your videos every evening. Good work!
Hi Tom and Melissa I watch all the time but because I'm sight impaired macular degeneration I don't type much. However Google lets me talk and it types. Just wanted to tell you I poked holes with a nail in my butternut squash and I throw it in the oven and when it's all done I scooped it it's so much easier so fast and I do love it and thanks for this recipe you guys are just the best. Keep those videos coming I watch them all the time
I roast these squash and acorn squash as well by this same recipe and it is delicious. I roast them in my convection oven which crisps them on the outside as the maple syrup caramelizes. I also roast them a little hotter at 425. They are so so good! I roast cut up sweet potatoes the same way but without the maple syrup. Thanks for sharing all these recipes. I love listening to your loving banter snd watching you cook!
Yes I've eaten it. I didn't think I'd like it so I just kept cooking & buttering & cooking till it was almost too soft or so I thought & OMG I'm in love with butternut squash. OMG l couldn't believe how l liked it. I'm 73 & didn't try it till I was 70. Still can't believe something that delicious was out there & l hadn't tried it. Big loss for me. Your recipe looks delicious.
Butter nut squash soup is my favorite soup but I usually buy it from a restaurant. I’d love to try making it as well. I like all types of squash. Acorn squash is good as well.
Hi Tom and Melissa! I have no idea, what Squash tastes like, since I haven’t tried it. But your recipe, looks good. So I’m going to make, a small batch of it, and I hope I like like it 😊 Thank you, for sharing your recipe, with us ❤
I’ve been with y’all from the beginning .. it’s so amazing to see how ur channel is growing .. every time I watch ur video you’ve grown by the thousands 🥰🥰🥰 I love it 👏🏼👏🏼 Congratulations.. almost 50 thousand subscribers 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼❤️❤️❤️
This does look delicious. Tell the young lady that is a great tip about the raccoons. Does that trick keep squirrels out of the garden? They are deveals, lol. Many thumbs up to your video. Stay well & safe guys. God bless you.
I love winter squash. One you should really try is Delicata or sweet dumpling squash. The rind is totally edible. It is super sweet and absolutely delicious.
This looks like a good recipe and I look forward to trying it. I cook butternut squash in a similar way but without the maple syrup. (Great addition!!) i also cook mine in my convection oven. The circulating air makes the outside crisp and the inside soft like a marshmallow. Delicious!
Thanks . I just found your channel and like to tryouts your recipes soon. I subscribed it lovely channel . I like your best recipes and methods.love from London
I simply DO NOT peel it; but, cut them in half, remove seeds, put brown sugar and butter and/or your maple syrup or any other things in where the seeds were and bake it until tender. If you want, you can open oven while the squash is baking and dip your brush in the liquid and baste the whole top with it. So easy and delicious and much easier. Eat with a spoon right in the hull.
We used to boil them, mash 'um up, and add butter......good eatin'. You can also make them like a sweet potato casserole with brown sugar, cinnamon, etc. P.S. Don't forget the mini marshmallows on top!
Butternut squash isn't my fave squash. But your recipe and the delicious- looking end results make me want to really try this. I'll bet I'll really like it!
I am new to your channel…. Found you yesterday searching a different recipe, likely will be tagging you in me trying that recipe…now I am watching more and more videos…. You sucked me in with butternut…. Love butternut squash!!!
Tom, My favourite way of preparing Acorn Squash, is to cut it in half and clean it. I then coat the open flesh with Olive Oil and drop a small dob of real butter in the middle. Then I sprinkle a generous shake, of Seasoned Salt. Bake at 400F for about 50 minutes until tender. After 25 minutes, start basting them on the inside, about every 10-15 minutes to keep from drying out. You could adapt that to the ButterNut Squash easy by coating cubes with melted butter and oil, easily. Let me know if you try this on one of your two remaining squashes! And let me also know if you have any ideas for variations or improvements! Thanks for another great idea. BTW I’m doing your chicken stuffing casserole this week
Thank you so much for the wonderful, detailed information. We really appreciate that you've shared it for everyone, too. It's so nice to have you watching our video.
I use melted butter in place of oil, I don't keep maple syrup so I use honey ( just a heaping tablespon) and a tsp to a tbls (depending how sweet you like it) brown sugar. Everything else is the same.
Hi guys I simply love listening to you and your wife…I originally grew up in North East Pa on the outskirts of the Poconos and I really don’t like the maple flavor…my question is could I use honey instead?
As a Canadian, it pains me to say yes you can. Also a mixture of melted Butter, Cinnamon and Brown Sugar, would work. 😩🙄 You do realize the hard work it is to make Maple Syrup, don’t you?🤔
Yes I do….they make all around where I grew up….it takes a lot of time putting the drains in and collecting sap and boiling it down….it truly is a long process
I like your method much more than my mothers! My mom just cuts them in half from stem to bottom. Then she removes the inside stuff and I believe she just adds some butter and bakes it. After it's out of the oven she scoops out the squash into a serving bowl. Would you say using sea salt in this recipe would be a good alternative?
Can you please tell me about your pealer ? I have my moms old old old one. Believe or not it is still sharp. I love yours, its bigger and looks easier to use.
I was wondering when you were see that piece that you droped and pick it up. Lolol i kepted saying, "maybe now he will see it". Lololol i like talking to you.
Using the proper knife will make the job easier. Shorter wider blade with blade slightly curved so that you can rock it. Looks like you were using some kind of carving knife.

I do a shortcut, and buy the frozen butternut squash. Love the stuff, savory or sweet.
I have roasted butternut squash and acorn squash seeds. I loved them both! Yum. ~Sharon from Florida
I wash the squash, split them in half length wise. On parchment paper and bake 350 for an hour. Scoop out the seeds. Scoop out the squash. Delish.
Sounds good, too! Thank you so much for watching.

You can roast the seeds just like pumpkin seeds. They're delicious.
"It's just a butternut squash. It's not a monster"...LOL.... In my mind I'm thinking: "Attack of the Killer Squash"...Loved that line...

I will give you a tip: boil it for five minuts you'll cut it more easily....from São Paulo, Brasil. 🎉🎉🎉

I LOVE butternut squash. Roast it in the oven...low and slow.
Our family likes to use butter nut squash to make pies. It tastes a lot like pumpkin, just not quite as strong.
I have another question… could you pre boil them and then finish roasting them?
I’m fairly certain that would work
Just don’t over cook them!
My hubby and I love your channel. Hes currently making this and I don't see a temperature setting. Did I miss it?

Sweet potato fries! ❤❤

On how high tempr in the oven?
🌲👍
What do they taste like?
Does Butternut Squash taste anything like Acorn Squash ??
What< no brown sugar?
Not this time but I guess you could if you wanted. We thought it was delicious without it, though.
Using the proper knife will make the job easier. Shorter wider blade with blade slightly curved so that you can rock it. Looks like you were using some kind of carving knife.
well, for goodness' sake! Tonight for dinner, I made roasted butternut squash and carrots with feta and honey. I'm just sitting back scrolling my subs and find this! Next time! lol
