Lovecraft, which is the same inspiration behind Abyssal Hunters, since it's the idea of being hunters fighting essentially cosmic entity they used the same hunter design as Bloodborne as a result, there might be some inspiration from Bloodborne, but it's definitely more from H.P. Lovecraft itself. Hell even Persona 2/5 take inspiration from that, lmao.

The abyssals arent crazy one shot hitters. Its just that they do true damage. SO only way to kill abyssals is one shot them like abyssals hunters like skadi can do. if you dont kill them in one shot you gonna get true damage hell

I just realised something. Most boss battle BGMs are the bosses' theme songs, but this one is literally the abyssal hunters' themes. Not only did Under Tides end with the event boss cowering in fear of being hunted, the abyssal hunters play their theme just to flex on it even more.
It actually reflects the situation, too: normally in Arknights, a boss battle means that the boss is attacking the protagonists. In this case, the Abyssal Hunters actively returned to fight the boss, after evading its attack, so _they_ technically are the Bishop's boss fight in this one.
I remember the Bishop's thought process as he was mutating into this giant abomination. "I can't fight the hunters in my current state. I need to evolve more! I need to evolve new weapons, I need to evolve legs! Then I'll crush them! Wait... that's not how evolution works. Oh no..."
I just realized why 2:24 sends chills down my spine! It sounds kinda like the calls of sea mammals (whales, orcas, and dolphins)! Fish don't generally vocalize because they have no air sacs to push air out of, so in real life we are used to only hearing mammals speaking. Arknights is doing a really good job extrapolating "what fish would sound like if they had lungs"! We subconsciously know it's the sound of an animal because we related the sounds to sea mammals, but the melody is so intricate we can't help thinking there's a human element in it! *This thing is the uncanny valley in audio form!!* Fucking brilliant.

As the first Arknights event I got to really play and managed to finish, man did I love it a lot. Hearing 2:23 felt so great as I forced my way through with level 40 elite 1 operators and a support Thorns.
I'm weird, I almost cried listening to this. I love beautiful and haunting music like this. People in the comments mentioning that this music/event has Bloodborne and Akiko Shikata vibes, thumps up to you guys.
The hype this event provided was particularly insane, you can ask every Dokutah out there and I think everyone would agree that Under Tides was the event that put Arknights on the direction it now is following.
This event still stands as one of the hypest event in ak. And the top in my history in video games. When I heard this during the Livestream it straight up told me, "you're staying in this game". And to think that this was only the 1st anniversary that time is insane. It really pushed the hype factor for the upcoming events.
I like to think that this isn't a boss theme of Quintus to us, but of Gladiia, Skadi and Specter and it plays for the Seaborns - They are closed in the cave with us, no other way around.
To add to your opinion, I like to imagine the distorted vocals at the beginning and in some other places of the track are Seaborn singing, as if trying to convince the Hunters to join their family. Whilst the stronger female vocals are the Hunters just singing back to prevent themselves from falling into the Seaborns' words completely, if that makes sense. EDIT: I have seen people use Skadi, and whenever Corrupted Heart is deployed, those distorted vocals are the first things you hear! So it might as well be the Seaborn song! :D
@@wickermanproxy6296 Good suggestion, but in this case I actually kind of consructed the fight around the song, she split into 3 copies which were constangly signing a distorting tute, forcing wisdom saves. 1 fail meant you had disadvantages on attacks, 2 fails made it impossible to target her, 3 fails and you were stunned. A success on a save moved you up a a tier in this list. The party's bard could've tried to coutneract the song, but she was more interested casting Thunderwave in a small crammed room.

When I first listened to this song as a new player looking for new Arknights music to listen to, my first impression was: You mean to tell me we fight Cthulu and the deep ones, and SOMEHOW we manage to win? Using our own Deep Ones? And our Deep One is a Waifu that is constantly on the verge of losing her mind, but at some point, she decides to embrace her "Deep Ones" Mind but stays good? Dang. Akrnights writers are Power-Moving! I love that we can actually fight lovecraftian horrors!

Fun fact, Skadi (the Waifu you mentioned) couldn't embrace the "Deep Ones" but actually lose to it, creating Skadi the Corrupting Heart (which is technically just the "Deep Ones" inside of her vessel since she is already dead). There's an entire fan-made story about how she keep on destroying everything else but us (the Doctor) in order for us to surrender ourselves to the Seaborn. Another fun fact, if you look at some Arknights wikipedia about Seaborn, there's more than one "Deep Ones", one of which grew so hard it became the ocean itself. So yeah, we will lose. But that's not the matter right now, we still have other important stuff to do (collab coming soon!)

@@bobylev-lu6us late reply, lmao, but no, it's not like a curse. The Abyssal Hunters were created using seaborns DNA and at some points they are destined to transform into such. That is unless their will is strong enough to resist transformation. Alter Skadia is example of "what if" scenario when she lost Gladia and Spectre and it resulted in her transformation into the Seaborn. Although for some reason she appears exactly the same.

@@bobylev-lu6us late reply, lmao, but no, it's not like a curse. The Abyssal Hunters were created using seaborns DNA and at some points they are destined to transform into such. That is unless their will is strong enough to resist transformation. Alter Skadia is example of "what if" scenario when she lost Gladia and Spectre and it resulted in her transformation into the Seaborn. Although for some reason she appears exactly the same.
