    Thanks for this comparison/review. I bought a Nanopresso in late 2019 and have used constantly since then, passing anywhere between 4 to 6 shots through it per day. Despite being designed for optimum portability, I use mine at home almost exclusively and it literally kept me alive in regards to being able to drink good coffee during the long pandemic isolation period. When I managed to lose the little orange sealing gasket inside the extraction chamber about a year in, I reached out to Wacaco and they sent me a replacement. Interestingly, the machine still functioned without this little part, although a little less optimally. With a new gasket in place (they had to ship it from half way around the world,) it was as good as new again and, 2000+ shots later, it's still going strong. I'm not sure if the Nanopresso makes "genuine" espresso or not, but it suites my real world coffee needs perfectly, making a marvelously tasty brew with very little fuss and bother.
    The other thing worth noting about the Nanopresso is its amazingly efficient use of both coffee and water. Unlike the Aeropress that it replaced (I went through several of those, actually, as well as numerous rubber plunger replacements over the years,) the Nanopresso really gets the most out of just 8 grams of grinds. I felt that the Aeropress required a lot more coffee to get the desired results and was a fussier gadget to use overall. The Aeropress also never seemed to work very well with the upgraded metal screen, so I was constantly feeding it paper filters. With the money saved on both the quantity of grids per shot and the lack of having to swap in a new filter each time, I could now afford to buy the nicer (pricier) dark roasted bean from my neighborhood cafe and get more out of it. The Nanopresso likes what my cafe calls a "course espresso" grind, which is a finer texture than grocery store coffee (pre-ground Starbucks, etc.) but not as fine as a "true" powder-like espresso grind. The inexpensive electric burr grinder I recently purchased is able to do this "course espresso" perfectly.
    Likewise, the Flair Neo manual espresso machine I recently took delivery of uses a greater amount of coffee per shot and requires an annoying preheating process for the metal parts for optimal performance. I waste water in both the preheating of parts and in running it through the machine (where a lot of it seems to get lost) to get the desired finished product. And, while impressive to look at, it does take up more counter space and time, as well as me having to go back to using larger doses of grinds again. The shots are good with the Neo, for sure, but not really any better than what I'm getting out of the Nanopresso. Consequently, I'm now in the process of returning the Neo for a refund. Not a bad experience there, overall, but not what I was hoping for.
    Rather than stepping up to the Picopresso (it was certainly considered,) I'm now more inclined to purchase yet another Nanopresso, as I'm sure my old one will wear out eventually and I haven't tired of the experience. The lack of preheating fuss, as well the amazingly efficient grind and water management, are key selling points. But it also makes a great shot of espresso (yes, I think it's "real" enough) and that's ultimately what's the most important feature.

      I've had the nanopresso for a good year and absolutely love it! 💪🏽
      I kept thinking that its chamber is a tad too small, and that I should go for an extension - either a barista kit, or, what I just discovered, the picopresso 👆🏽
      Interestingly enough, the *one* thing I really ever complained about with my nano is the fact that the resulting brew is not as hot as I would like it to be 🤏🏽
      My workaround - and I'm proud to say that I came up with it myself!, is simply to preheat everything: the chamber, the water holder, even the faucet!, and of course the cup 👐🏽
      I get a much better result that way, but it's quite the hassle in comparison with the absolute breeze it is to use the nano without thinking too much about all the parameters... 👏🏽
      This is proof to how versatile a product the nanopresso really is: as easy as it is to use, you will always get a top quality brew, yet depending on how much extra effort you're willing to put, in you can always have an even better result 👌🏽
      Watching this video, it feels like its aim is to sell the pico over the nano 🫰
      Funnily enough, it just made me value my precious nano even more 🫶
      > "Make more with less" ✊🏽
      i.e. If you want more of that delicious brew, the just treat 'yaself to another nano cycle! 🙌🏽

      I could've buy a whole expresso machine but I want handy coffee machine. Like I can take it anywhere I want. Do you have any suggestion please. And what kind of coffee beans i should get? I've been using Columbian kcups. Thank you so much. Happy New Year 😊

    Our beloved nanopresso has done us really well, for years here and there while travelling and more recently pulling shot after shot daily as we are on a sabbatical abroad. I thought we had blown a seal or gasket on the nanopresso, and as such ordered a picospresso. The Pico would not work with the storebought preground coffee that we were using with the nano, so we had to order a manual grinder (So now we are about $400 into this.) After multiple tries and several different bags of beans, I am finally able to dial it into what is a texturally better shot than the nano - mouthfeel and crema. In the meantime, I figured out that whatever happened to the nano seems to have fixed itself. So we are using both. My thoughts? yes, with a LOT of effort, the pico is indeed better. In fact, I'm pulling really incredible shots with it. the crema is real, thick and beautiful. It could in fact be pulling better shots than my home machine. BUT... for those who need a quick fix espresso while traveling I still would HIGHLY recommend the nano. It works with ANYTHING. I used to keep a jar next to our home coffee machine and would dump extra coffee grinds into the jar from time to time. The jar would sit there for weeks to months and I would just take it with us when camping or travelling... The coffee with the nano was still really good. Store bought ground coffee? still good. Crema, taste, etc. As good as our home machine coffee? NO. As good as the Pico... no, but if you want a GOOD RELIABLE espresso that is not finicky with what you feed it (and takes considerably less coffee to produce an espresso) buy the nano. While the pico produces lovely espresso, it takes a lot of tweaking and is far far less forgiving.

    I Have BOTH. I Also Have The Barista Kit. What NOBODY Talks About Is The GRIND SIZE REQUIREMENT For The Picopresso. I Had To Buy A Speciality Grinder (Purefresh) AND DESPITE THAT I Am Having Great Difficulty Dialling In The Proper Crema On The Picopresso. It Has Been Very Frustrating. The Nanopresso However Is Completely Reliable And Easy To Use And Is Absolutely An Indispensable Travel Companion.

      Yup. Nanopresso is much more forgiving in terms of grind size thanks to the pressurized system. For picopresso, you need to buy a pressurized portafilter.

    I own a Nanopresso with the barista kit, the nano vessel, the case and the nespresso adapter. I manage to produce a great creamy espresso with it and i always use it at home and take it with me when I travel. I've also pre-ordered the Picopresso and can't wait to receive it and test it out hoping to produce an even better espresso. As far as I know it looks like the Nanopresso system, while being a bit bigger in size, seems to be more travel oriented than Picopresso thanks to the included portable attached cups, the baskets with lids so you can load them with coffee and bring them with you ready to be used on the nano, the nano vessel that can be attached directly to the Nanopresso for a convenient use of hot water on the go, the barista kit giving the option of double espresso or lungo, and the nespresso adapter for a convenient use of coffee capsules on the go.

      @@Rasengandattebayo82Hey! In reality, I've been using most of the times the Nanopresso since I find it more practical and also better suited for when I travel. Sure the Picopresso can produce a better quality espresso but in order to achieve this you must dial in the right fine grind, otherwise you won't achieve any cream and the coffee will taste meh. You need also the right coffee beans. I also find it not perfectly insulated since it can get a bit too warm in your hands when you fill it with hot water (this doesn't happen with Nanopresso). That's why I bought the Picopresso sleeve in order to make it better insulated (and even more stylish!). I also bought the 12g basket, which is perfect for a single shot and will help saving coffee beans as well. I find the Picopresso perfect when you take your time to produce the perfect espresso shot, using the right coffee and the right grinder(I use the 1Zpresso GX Pro) and dialing in the perfect grind. With Nanopresso I can use a normal ground medium roast coffee, no need to grind beans if I don't want to, and it's easier to produce a nice creamy shot. I also save money on coffee. The extra accessories made for it (barista kit, cups attached, nespresso attachment,..) make it even more versatile. Let's say Nanopresso is my daily driver and I use Picopresso on special occasions. Hope this helps!

      @@MarcoMarfia But is the espresso produced by nanopresso tasty? I don't care about the crema etc. Is there a lot of channeling, bitterness, acidity into the cup? The only reason i'm thinking about nanopresso is because i drink 7-8 gram shots on my flair and 18 grams is wayy too much for me

    • @MarcoMarfia
      @MarcoMarfia ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@78anant420 I personally find it super tasty and love it so much that it has been my daily driver for 4 years already! To avoid sour acidic taste, I think it's important the quality and type of coffee you use and the right grind size, that for nanopresso needs to be not too fine, not too coarse. Grinding fresh beans would be ideal, but I personally use a good ground medium roast coffee, suitable for Italian moka, which is fine grind but a little bit coarser than the one you would use for espresso. As for the quantity, I usually put 12 grams of coffee using the double coffee basket from the barista kit. I prefer it much more over the single coffee basket. Then I extract either 24ml or 36ml of coffee. To avoid channeling it's important the size and quality of the grind, the distribution and the tamping. You can also use a distribution tool to help avoid that. Hope that helps!

    Great comparison Brodie. Got my Picopresso a few days ago and having a lot of fun playing with it. Probably drunk more coffee than I should have. Have already discovered that one of my grinders cannot go fine enough on the ground for the Picopresso using a dark roast bean. Too much oil and it clogs it up. Switching to a medium roast works but definitely needs a finer grind to get a nice crema - just takes longer to grind.

    I like the nanopresso a bit more for my specific use case. I use my nanopresso during travels and holiday on my motorcycle. The fact that you can take prefilled baskets is a big advantage for that scenario.
    The price comparison is not completely correct since you can buy package deals that include the barista kit and a case. Making it quite a bit cheaper.
    I only tested tried the Pico in a store so would be curious to actually use it and compare it during travels.

    I've had nanopresso + barista kit but gave it away while overseas and went back to the store to buy another one. The store suggested getting picopresso instead, so I watched a few videos and got it along with Wacaco grinder - no turning back, it's leaps and bounds better than nanopresso and suits my needs - I primarily use it while travelling to other countries that don't have good coffee available, but always have hot water and cups in my accommodation. Plus the grinder will be used for specialty coffee beans with my regular machine at home. Overall - impressive kit!

    Definately the Nanopresso, I own one with barista and Nespresso adapter.... truly versatile sleek gadget the Pico even though it's shorter it's more chunky on the side, plus you are using way more grams of coffee (8g or 12g vs 18g) more than double for similar result (with less crema). I think the grind size differences probably made the difference in taste / texture, or were you saying the Nano was using a pressurized basket? I find grinding finer does give you more body, and better mouthfeel even with a light roast as well as a lower brew ratio, so if you're putting in more coffee and putting the same amount of water through both the more concentrated one will have a better texture.

    The thing about the picopresso, is that it has a fk tone more parts and little tiny things and discs and plates and accessories.
    And where are we using it??!?
    You have to remember that!
    If those machines/tools have to be used in the field, on the go, BOTH have to be easy and users friendly!
    So for me, just looking at the Pico one, I am stressed out! It will stress me out being out there on my hike having soooo many different finicky parts and faff to keep a hold of! Not lose, keep an eye on!
    That little metal pick tool? God u see me losing it probably immediately!! And it's just too finicky the whole process!
    I'm I'm really out there in the wild, I want to have the luxury of having an upgraded coffee, but not a fk tone of fuss and stress!
    So final words: for me, neithr of them are that much worth the effort and hassle to actually bring them along. Maybe the Minipresso as it's just so much more user friendly in actual ground zero scenario!

    So for Nanopresso medium-fine grind is better than fine grind?
    For Aeropress is go for Fine grind and I was wondering what would be the best grind size for Nanopresso.

    • @BrodieVissers
      @BrodieVissers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest testing out different grinds until you find the right one for your coffee because at that grind level, I can't tell you exactly what it will look like. Definitely finer than what you would use for Aeropress though :)

    The Nanopresso is great if you’re happy with Nespresso capsules or a pressurised espresso type drink. Neither however is a true espresso - for that the Picopresso is a different league. I have both btw and am impressed with the Picopresso - the design is ingenious and the espresso is pretty good If you have a good grinder. I don’t expect it to match my home Espresso kit as you can’t manage the variables, such as temperature the same way but as a portable device it’s fantastic and I will use it regularly away from home. Yes I could just go to a coffee shop but I find the process of making a coffee as relaxing and enjoyable as drinking it. The Picopresso is the first portable device that I have (and I have a few) that both makes the process fun and produces a genuine espresso.

    Nanopresso is for coffee people on the go and Picopresso is for Espresso nerds on the go or for fun. The Pico makes great quality espresso I really love it but a good scale an expensive handgrinder (at least 1zpresso q septagonal) is a must.

    I have been fortunate enough to get my hands on a demo unit Picopresso, and I have a Nanopresso already for 2 years, I am by no means a barista and only a simple coffee drinker that enjoys a GOOD coffee.
    my take the finesse required to dial in a Nanopresso compared to the Picopresso is worlds apart I have always used a scale to measure beans for the Nanopresso so was an easy habit to form with the Picopresso but also the pressure valve in the Nano makes the ease of use awesome for anyone.
    with that said I have taken the week to dial in, the grind, distribution and amount of water pulled(to my taste) on the Picopresso and can say that now with me fine tuninig the Picopresso does make a far nicer coffee. I will need to spend some time reading up on the effects of longer infussion, more coffee in the basket and other elements that I can play with and see how this changes my overall flavor spectrum.

    • @BrodieVissers
      @BrodieVissers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome Gerard. Definitely play around with some of the different variables (one at a time for best results), and let me know if you get any results that are better than what's recommended! Sometimes I actually find a lighter roasted coffee tastes more balanced with more water in the ratio. All the best :)

    Well yeah dude you say all the advantages of the picopresso but you only forgot one of the advantages of the nanopresso for why some people would buy the nano presso over the picopresso that is the ns adapter for capsules the picopresso currently doesn't have an ns adapter for nespresso capsules which some people may feel drawn to that feature since some people may not feel like grinding their coffee at some mornings and they just want a one shot quick and fast and they may like and have favorite nespresso capsule flavors and want to continue to brew does flavors fast and easily than what their nespresso machine does and nanopresso tends to brew capsules faster than those machines made by nespresso yes the picopresso seems to look and work slightly better than nanopresso but doesn't have that crucial and important feature so you guys need to add that feature to get more sells on picopresso

    … well I‘d really appreciate a direct tasting comparison too. pre-finetuning of coffee | grind included… that said, I‘m owning the full nano package, and what you get out of this in real outdoor life off most else (real machines aren‘t necessarily around each closeby corner) is still great to me, crema etc. so maybe I‘ll treat myself with a pico one day but so far I don‘t feel underprivileged, tbh.

    It's interesting that people are finding they have to put more effort into the Pico than the Nano. Maybe they've updated their website but even the description of the Pico literally states no shortcuts and that you have to master the art of manual espresso...that will get you a cafe quality espresso." Thanks for the review. The Pico looks to be more demanding of the user than the Nano.

    Love your review, thanks for doing them :) I bought my Nanopresso a long time ago and it comes with the case. No idea why they excluded it from the set now. I had a nanopresso for about two years before I bought a flair last year. Using similar grind settings broke the nanopresso pump to the point where there was no pressure coming out anymore. I wonder how robust the pump on this will be. I may consider this for travel instead of bringing my flair around.

    • @JidduVillarin
      @JidduVillarin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Marco Mathies I barely used it unpressurized. The hario skerton is a terrible grinder for espresso. Thankfully I have the jxpro from 1zpresso that works really well with my flair. I was using the nanopresso to benchmark my grind for the flair but not dice. Nothing out of a skerton was usable on a consistent basis. I recall the barista kit extender leaking after a few bad session. I was hoping this had something like the xbar but the mechanisms are radically different. Glad to see a proper basket and a bottomless portafilter on this one. I might pick one up after enough people have torture tested this device.

    Great in depth review! Thank you so much!
    The nanooresso has the pressurized valve for the fake crema, that's intended to compensate on user's limitations and error.
    The picopresso not possessing this little "cheat" will yield a better espresso at the end after user's learning curve imo. The crema on the pico looked more authentic btw

      @@BrodieVissers Thanks for asking. I just tried it an hour ago.
      Trying these new toys is always so much fun! 😃 I am actually really happy with mine. I made an iced coffee with the Iced Liminha (tastes minty with a touch of lime) that Nespresso sent me as a gift and it was really good. And the machine is easy to use.
      Worked perfectly and I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to make a pretty big mug of iced coffee with just that tiny Nespresso capsule. With some ice cubes and iced water added, it filled a 15oz mug without tasting watered down. Never having tried the Nespresso capsules before I did not imagine they would make much coffee per serving. But in an iced coffee or latte they seem to go pretty far.
      Technically I could have gotten an Original Capsule Nespresso machine for the same price as the Nanopresso and the NS adapter, BUT the fun of it is that it's portable and I can take it where I go (as in to work). Or if I was going on vacation, I'd definitely bring my Nanopresso and Nespresso pods for the hotel room.
      So yes, I have to say I am loving mine.🙂

    Preferring the richer taste of a coffee made with 50% more coffee ground while the amount of water being similar? Not difficult to understand why.
    I have the NANOPRESSO, for regular 8g per cup and the Nespresso adapter, and I am very happy with it.

    This is proof of how versatile a product the nanopresso really is: as easy as it is to use, you will always get a top-quality brew, yet depending on how much extra effort you're willing to put, in you can always have an even better result 👌🏽
    Watching this video, it feels like its aim is to sell the pico over the nano 🫰
    Funnily enough, it just made me value my precious nano even more 🫶
    > "Make more with less" ✊🏽
    i.e. If you want more of that delicious brew, then just treat 'yaself to another nano cycle! 🙌🏽

    • @BrodieVissers
      @BrodieVissers  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is great! I definitely still love the Nano and use it depending on the setting. Preheat is good, I always use water from the kettle at 100°C to get it to the right temp. But yeah Barista Kit is a must for me, 8g of espresso is just not quite enough ;)
