Pallid Merlins in Kazakhstan!

It is rare for us to see a Merlin, a falcon like the Peregrine Falcon known to so many in the USA and around the world. In fact, we’ve seen less than two dozen Merlins during our three-decade birding adventure.
So, we were very pleased to find a couple of Pallid Merlins (Falco columbarius pallidus) at Aqmola oblysy, Kazakhstan, southwest of Astana, the capitol of Kazakhstan, on 22 May 2024.
Pallid Merlins are one of the subspecies of Merlins, a subspecies we have never seen.
It was another great day of birdwatching.
