I love watching bird, mammal, insect, and other wildlife behavior. When I can capture this on video, I enjoy sharing it with you.
Goitered Gazelles Race Across the Taukum Desert.
We found this herd of a dozen Goitered Gazelles (Gazella subgutturosa) racing across the Taukum Desert northwest of Almaty, Kazakhstan on 19 May 2024. They are also called Black-tailed Gazelles, and they are related to goats, sheep, and antelopes.

Rosy Starlings Gather Nesting Material
มุมมอง 6669 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
We found a huge colony of Rosy Starlings (Pastor roseus) on 18 May 2024 near Kurty, which is northwest of Almaty, Kazakhstan. We estimated there were 1,000 Rosy Starlings at this rock pile alongside the road. Some individuals were gathering nesting material. Others were bathing in puddles. It was a joy to be so close and to see and hear so many Rosy Starlings.
Common Cuckoo in Kazakhstan
มุมมอง 6812 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
We found this Common Cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) on 18 May 2024 near Kanshengel, which is northwest of Almaty, Kazakhstan. She is either a female or an immature cuckoo. She perched in one tree and let us watch her for several minutes before she perched in a nearby tree and stayed there until we left. One interesting fact about cuckoos is that they lay their eggs in the nests of other songbirds. Th...
Native Solitary Bee on Foreign Flower
มุมมอง 3114 วันที่ผ่านมา
The Sunflower Bee (Svastra obliqua), also known as the Oblique Longhorn, is a species of long-horned bee native to Central America and North America. I found this group visiting Common Chicory (Cichorium intybus), native to Europe, near a pond south of our house in West Sacramento, CA, USA on 5 July 2024. Since these bees tend to forage quickly, I slowed some of these segments to 10% speed, oth...
A Gopher Enjoys a Day at the Beach
มุมมอง 16014 วันที่ผ่านมา
We found this Botta’s Pocket Gopher (Thomomys bottae) at Point Reyes National Seashore on 6 July 2024. As you will see in this video, pocket gophers are stout rodents with small ears and small eyes, a luxuriant pelt, big front teeth, and five front claws on each paw. Their middle claw is the longest. These rodents are well adapted burrowers: they produce thick tears that wash away dirt from the...
A Wasp Grooms Herself.
มุมมอง 25014 วันที่ผ่านมา
The European Paper Wasp (Polistes dominula) is a docile beauty native to southern Europe, Northern Africa, and parts of Asia. I found this one grooming her face and antennae on a stem near a pond south of our house in West Sacramento, CA, USA on 5 July 2024.
A Young Flycatcher Eats A Dragonfly!
มุมมอง 10214 วันที่ผ่านมา
Blue Dashers, a kind of dragonfly, are abundant at our pond right now. There are scores of males and females perched on Chicory and the chain-link fence surrounding the pond. They are packets of protein for any predator willing to grab them. This young Black Phoebe (Sayornis nigricas) did just that today. He grabbed a male Blue Dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis) and beat it against a concrete pip...
Our Rare Experience with a Lark.
มุมมอง 33721 วันที่ผ่านมา
During the entire month we were birding in Central Asia, we only saw White-winged Larks (Alauda leucoptera) on a single day, May 22, 2024, in the grasslands of Aqmola Oblysy, southwest of Astana, the capitol of Kazakhstan. They were too far away to capture a high-quality video. But I thought a low-quality movie of them was better than none at all. I hope you agree.
A 7-minute Tour of Kazakhstan
มุมมอง 6821 วันที่ผ่านมา
Here’s a sneak peek of our unforgettable visit to Kazakhstan. This is one of dozens of videos I will post about our month-long trip to Central Asia, where we also visited Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. In this video you will get a sense of Kazakhstan, from Laghman, a traditional Kazakh noodle dish, to the gorgeous and diverse places we stayed, including a lodge in the Altai Mountains, a yurt in the...
Pallid Merlins in Kazakhstan!
มุมมอง 1.2K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
It is rare for us to see a Merlin, a falcon like the Peregrine Falcon known to so many in the USA and around the world. In fact, we’ve seen less than two dozen Merlins during our three-decade birding adventure. So, we were very pleased to find a couple of Pallid Merlins (Falco columbarius pallidus) at Aqmola oblysy, Kazakhstan, southwest of Astana, the capitol of Kazakhstan, on 22 May 2024. Pal...

A Hybrid Duck Displays Like a Bufflehead and a Common Goldeneye!!!
มุมมอง 36หลายเดือนก่อน
Andrea Willey created this video of a hybrid duck whose parents were a bufflehead and a common goldeneye. This hybrid has been in the Sacramento region for about 10 years, mostly on the American River, which is where Andrea created this video on 11 February 2024. The duck sometimes visits Stonegate Pond in West Sacramento, CA, USA. Hybridization between these species is rare, but rarer still is...

Bela pescaria em show de bola um abraço
Great footage and beautifully captured. Enjoyed the video but sorry as I do not know their behavior.
Thanks for watching the video and for taking the time to live a comment.
Nice footage. All I can think of is the Beatles' song "Why Don't We Do it in the Road?" haha

これは?!普通のキジとは違いますね!?
The female was preening and the male was preparing for takeoff. I duck watch and have pet ducks, they bob their heads and stretch their necks out like that when they're getting ready to fly or jump.
@RN-fl4qx Thanks for sharing your expertise.
No problem.
よく撮れましたね!家にもキジが住み着いているのですが、逃げてしまうので、こんなによく撮れません。
handsome little fella
I agree!
Nice and beautiful video. Thanks for sharing & big like
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Yes
Yep. My ears are still working.
Great Good... !!! I wish you every day of your development.
Thank you.
Through some loss of hearing I can no longer hear this bird. Fortunately I can read his lips.
It is the sound at 0:19?
I remember hearing the high parts when i was young.
they do sound like a grasshopper! wild!
now thats cute😘
I agree. Thanks for your comment.
Yes and it’s so beautiful!❤
Thank you.
Yes and is so sweet!❤
I’m happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for your reply.
I always thought these were crickets.
I am hypersensitive to environmental noise, so no surprise I heard this just fine. I have to wear industrial ear protectors just to concentrate at work 😔
Wow. Has your hearing always been that sensitive? That sounds like an asset for bird watching.
Ohhh that’s what that noise is outside
Do you live near grassland?
Now I know too xD
It sounds kinda like a cricket to me.
The Cricket Sparrow!
Sounds like a faulty electrical system
I’d love to see that description in a bird identification book!
I'm nature's most sensitive instrument. Beautiful chirp chirp.
You hear chirping?
@@frankseverson I call it chirping.
I don't
Me either. 😩
I'm 33 and I hear it on my speakers. I also don't listen to music at all so I don't have hearing loss from unnecessarily loud music. I'll never understand why people listen to music that loud.
I hope you’re able to hear them forever.
I hear the resemblance to grasshoppers yeah, not too bad for a 30 year old... Wonder if I'll keep it up though.
I’m guessing that I could hear them when I was 30. I could hear Cedar Waxwings, Bushtits, and other high-pitched songbirds. But I can’t at 63! That’s why I plan to buy hearing aids.
Was that your turn signal I heard or the pheasant?
A low trill, followed with a raising trill, very low. To me, it sounds like a hummingbirds wings as they fly by
Wow. I’m amazed. Thanks for sharing what you heard.
I can definitely hear these better in real life. You guys can hear bats using their echo location squeaks too right? It's gotta be more common than people let on. I think most people just don't recognize what they're hearing.
I did hear it, its honestly the quietest bird I have ever heard. Still so cute! 🥰🥰
I envy you for your ability to hear him. I think he’s cute too.
@@frankseverson Ty! 😊
I think I can hear only some of the frequencies. I'm wearing quite cheap headphones though, so I don't know.
I haven’t tried headphones. I’ll have to do that. Thanks for the suggestion!
What a cute bird
I agree!
Nice and beautiful video. Thanks for sharing & big like
Thanks for your kindness.
I can hear its chip calls. In real life, I can hear the song.
@featherbirdlady I envy you! I plan to get hearing aids so that I can hear them again too. Thanks for watching.
I think that happens after the deed.
Interesting. Have you seen documentation of that or seen it in person?
@@frankseverson Saw something like this at the local duck pond.
@@dontmissthelittlethings Thanks so much for sharing that experience.
She got a quick bath and flapped off some excess…I don’t get the question
Sounds and looks usual to me. Male checking around to see if anything is coming.
Thanks for sharing your experience with me.
