The basic idea of this technique came from watching a tutorial by Cinecom.net about the teleportation effect in the movie Jumper.

They used a motorized slider and camera head, but what if I say, we can achieve the same pan & tilt stop motion effect without having to move the camera?
Basically it’s a really easy film trick, when you’re shooting with a still camera from a tripod. But the scenes like in the Jumper movie are a little bit different. The camera doesn’t stay still, but you can see it panning, tilting or zooming.
To combine a moving camera shot with stop motion technique, we have to repeat exactly the same camera movements over and over gain. Unless, we have a 360 camera! 😋
In this tutorial I show you the entire process from recording to the final steps in post-production.

Of course! I'm not sure if there's any reframing plugin in FCPX, but you can do the masking part and render the equirectangular 360 video and create the camera movements in another software, like the Insta360 Studio, which is a free 360 video editor.
So in this case this can be a solution for the FCPX workflow.
