Finally got my official NLVD diagnosis at 55. The exact same age that Chris Rock did. Since I started acting 7 years ago I've been told I'm so much like Chris Rock however, I'm female, I'm biracial and I have a masters degree.
Is there a link between grade 1 brain hemorrhages/ periventricular leukomalacia and NVLD? Can you have both NVLD and autism? If so can you have autism without any family history? I have an NVLD diagnosis but I also have sensory issues and have a headbanging stim that becomes severe when I am overwhelmed; I have had it since I was 2. I'm not sure anyone will see this as I am at least a year late, also I'm sorry for asking so many questions. I probably shouldn't care about whether I have one or the other or both. I am just obsessed with making sure im in the right category. It doesn't matter where I fall just that it's correct. I know I would need to talk to a specialist and I can't be diagnosed via youtube comment. I can't afford a specialist unfortunately though and although I have a formal NVLD diagnosis I struggled when looking to find someone who even knew what NVLD was let alone sort though the details of my individual case and tell me where I fit. It would be helpful to be able to say I have autism because my support needs are often identical and no one knows what NVLD is, (maybe that will change soon since they are adding it to the next edition of the DSM also maybe the name change will help) Anyway I don't want to lie and say I have autism if I don't and I want to be accurate. This has caused me to spend hours researching this topic but there's only so much information you can get without access to academic journals. The one saving grace is that I have an obsession with the DSM, I bought one at 17 and memorized enough of the diagnosis to not have to study in college when taking abnormal psych so at least I enjoy it. Also sorry for the grammar spelling and lack of organization in this comment. I have a really hard time editing and if I try to fix it to much I wont end up posting it. I hope at least some of this makes sense. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read and or respond.
@@lillyraye7232maybe check out the NVLD project? They are on youtube and Facebook. I personally am self-diagnosed. NLD is not known in Europe. I bought books from the US. Peter Flom has written two and Linda Karanzalis has one too. I learned i am NLD beginning of 2024. I am 49.
Excellent and much-needed information on a critical topic! This webinar is a lifesaver for families seeking answers and resources.
Thank you! This has been very informative. I was diagnosed with NVLD last August 2 months before my 34th and this explains so much
So glad it was helpful for you!
Thanks- so glad you found it helpful!

Telling kids about gender identity is never useful, but in my defense, I am NVLD.
