Perfect instructions - I tried everything, Genie manual, Toyota owners manual, numerous forums - nothing worked. Followed this exactly and was up and running in less than a couple minutes. Well done.
After 20 minutes of going through these steps, I found I needed to press the button on my garage door opener head twice (once long to get a solid blue LED) and once quickly to blink purple. Only after this was the final step possible. Hope this helps for others also struggling!
Thanks so much for this! I have a 2014 Ram and I couldn't get it programmed using the instructions that came with my new Genie. I realized that my issue was that I was not pressing the "program" button as outlined in the second half of this video. Note that Homelink started working for me after making 2 more presses of the homelink button (it did not need the third that is outlined in the video). Two long presses (1 second each) did the job.
Thank you. This video is much better than the one on the Home Lnk/Ford site. After 2 frustrating days, 30 plus minute attempts, I was finally able to complete programing my 23 Ford Edge.
This worked for my 2022 Ford F150 tremor. I had the genie remote with only 1 button. Thank you so much! I also was trying to program with my truck fully on. I should have realized to put my truck in accessory mode by hitting the start button without holding the brake. Thank you again!
I followed the instruction and I was able to pair my Subaru Outback Homelink with the Genie garage door opener in my new home on the first try in 2 minutes. Thank you for posting this video.

Works with Genie StealthDrive Connect Model 7155-TKV. Make sure after you trigger the remote to Red... press and hold that same button 10 seconds to see the red/green LED on before holding the button in the car.
A couple of notes: 1) you don't need to hold for 10 seconds garage remote, just press and hold both simultaneously 2) keep remote very close (1 - 3 inches per my user's manual) to the mirror 3) once you turned on programming mode on the opener press and hold desired button on the mirror for 3 seconds(again per my BMW manual) with those little tweaks it finally worked for me
Thank you very much for the video. Nothing else I found worked, but this enabled me to get my wife's HomeLink working. It is good to watch all the steps before you start, or you will be running back and forth doing steps over again :). Also, once setup is completed, take your Genie remote out of programming mode again by repeating the steps for "preparing your remote for programming" that starts at 2:46. This gets your Genie remote back to green lights when you press the button. This security feature on the remote should probably be secured again after you've set up your HomeLink.
If anyone else is having problems with a Genie opener (rolling code) and setting the Homelink in a 2016 Ram 2500 the truck actually had to be on and running before it would work. I tried multiple times with the key in the on position and not running with no luck. I did the same procedure found in this video but with the truck running and it worked the first time.
Unreal... Two weeks ago I bought a 2017 Ford Fusion. I drove it home and in 15 seconds had the Homelink connected to my 25 year old Genie garage door opener. I had a brand new garage door and Genie opener installed today and just about blew a gasket because neither of my Ford cars that have Homelink buttons would work with the new opener. All I had to do before was hold the remote next to the Homelink button and hold the buttons at the same time. Why are there now 15 steps to make this work, including getting a ladder and pushing buttons on the actual opener? Why is this so complicated 25 years later? Sheesh!!
Awesome video I almost had a coronary trying to program my 2005 Lincoln town car as soon as I put this video on did it exactly as the video tells you to do it and it worked perfectly one try thank you very much
I had trouble programming my homelink with my new genie(model #3055) garage door opener. My issues was my led shop lights were blocking the signal. Turned them off and followed the recommended program directions and in ten minutes my issue was solved!
Yes LED lighting can cause radio frequency interference with a garage door openers signal. I am glad to hear you figured out that was the cause and are now working :) let us know if you need anything else.
I could not program my Homelink buttons in my 2018 Suburban with my small 3 button remote like shown in the video. Fortunately I remembered I had another style of remote in the drawer, generic version. I programmed, one of those buttons and then used that to program first to the car, which produced the fast flashing LED for the first time, then I did the Program button the Opener, followed by the double-press and then on the 3rd press it worked!!! Took me a good 45 minutes to work it out :/
It is a possibility that your three button may have an older software version (mentioned in the video), very glad to hear that you got it working, reach out with any questions
I just programmed my homelink and found that the instructions in the Genie manual and the vehicle are confusing. I was able to do it with the new 7055 Genie. 1. In the vehicle - clear all the prior codes - Press the two outside homelink buttons at the same time and hold for 20 to 25 seconds, you know they are clear because it will fast flash. 2. In the vehicle - hold the desired vehicle homelink button and the garage door remote opener button both at the same time for about 5 seconds, you will know it linked because it will fast flash. 3. On the garage door opener itself (in the garage) - there is a button labeled SET, push it for exactly two seconds, it will color change from green to blue on the dot and purple flashing on the bar. 4. In the vehicle - press the programmed button for exactly two seconds, then again for two seconds, and then press it once for about a second. The garage door will open or close. The button is now programmed. The opener will have a green light again.
The instructions are confusing. It breaks down like this: Homelink needs to copy the handhelds code so it can masquerade as the handheld remote. Then you program the homelink to your door just like you would program a handheld remote. Here are the steps: Erase homelink in vehicle first by holding outside buttons for 20 seconds. Copy handheld remote code to homelink by holding handheld remote button until red and green lights light up. Release handheld button and press twice, light will be red. Hold homelink button until it starts blinking slowly then hold handheld button along with homelink for 20 second and release both. Now your homelink sends the same codes as your handheld and you can proceed to program it to your door. Now go to your garage door opener and press the square button for 3 seconds. Go to homelink and press desired opener button twice. Garage door should now respond to homelink
Do both the remote and homelink work in tandem after this process, or does the door opener only work with homelink? Thank you for your breakdown. What I’m wondering is if a rolling code (I’m assuming it uses a rolling code) needs to be transmitted and programmed on the remote from the opener, then transmit and program the rolling code from the remote to the home link, then transmit and program the rolling code obtained via the remote from homelink to the door opener while the door opener is in program mode. I’m assuming that the remote and home link will both work if successfully completed, within the specified timeframe and if not completed in that timeframe, the rolling code will change and the process will need to be started over. Do you have any insight? I’ll be attempting this setup soon.
it will work with software version 2.0.3. mine did. make sure you clear out any codes already programmed into the home link first. also, it is best that your car is running (according to tech support). That is what I did and it now works...
My 2008 S500 would NOT take the code from a Genie Excellerator II "fob" (as pictured in this video) - software version 2.0.5. My son-in-law had one with Software 2.0.6, and THAT was accepted by my Mercedes' Homelink!
Can confirm a 2016 Chevy Tahoe will NOT work with 2.0.3. Had to go buy a new $30 remote (v 2.0.7) and it took the programming in about 3 seconds. I now keep it in a drawer for reprogramming in case I have to pull the battery and it gets lost.
I don't know why it only works sometimes, and not other times. I've paired it with the small 3 button remote, and even that works sometimes, not all the time. One time, I sat in my car for 10 minutes trying to get the opener to close the door. I had to manually get out of my car, hit the button in door, and run outside. and jump over the sensor. When I came back, the homelink opened the door. I don't understand why it's like this.
It sounds as if you may have an interference related issue, causing low range or no range once the door is closed, Did you recently change light bulbs in the garage door opener, or in the garage or outside the garage anywhere? Do you live within 50 miles of a military base? Reach out at 1-800-354-3643 and we can provide you further assistance.
I programmed the 1st button of my remote to my Homelink using this method. However, the 3rd button on my remote (which is programmed for my community gate via the internal dip switches) cannot be put into "program" mode (where both red and green LEDs turn on). Instead, when the 3rd button is pressed, the red LED just flashes rapidly indefinitely no matter how long it is held down. I called support and no one seems to know about this issue. Any help?
Hi We would need to confirm the model of remote, the Genie Master remote sounds like the remote you have. If the 3rd button is programmed to a gate opener with switches, then you wouldn't need to flip from red to green, that is for Intellicode 1 and intellicode 2 technology. What are you trying to reprogram the 3rd button to? HomeLink as well?
So annoying that it was a comment that held the secret! I really wish folks could take the time to explain to people what they are doing - before they tell them how to do it. In this case - these instructions can be summarized as: 1) Copy your good remote's *certificate* into the new remote.. 2) Pair the new remote with your garage door opener. I'd completed step 1 many times successfully - without realizing there was a second step. Had they mentioned this in a clear and short fashion before getting into the weeds, I bet a lot more people would be using this.
If you have additional issues or "its just not working for you", try this after I experienced an issue of a lighting induced corruption or loss of codes in 1 of 2 identical Genie Belt Drive units. 1.) clear all button assignments on the individual remote fobs (instructions on the Genie website). Do a "Divorce Clear😂 - their term not mine!) by going into program mode and then holding both the + & - buttons at the same time. Now restart the Homelink programing process with the correct remote fob in each car followed but the "rolling code" procedure at the opener head. Best of Luck. There's an hour I'm not getting back but what a new skill. Maybe I should advertise and pair the neighborhood.
Hi Nath, It would depend on your model number. If you have an operator with a learn code button, you would press and hold the learn code button until the led next to it quits flashing. (then you would need to reprogram everything back in). If you have an operator with a PRO/SET button you would 1. Press and hold the program button until the round LED turns blue, then release. 2. Press and hold the Up(+) Down (-) buttons at the same time, until the both LEDs flash blue and go OFF.Then you will need to proceed with programming. Here is the link to programming this remote: th-cam.com/video/Yx--M-tvqtg/w-d-xo.html
There are some different things that could be causing the red LED light. If this is a new installation, the limits need set before programming the remotes. If it is already set, please contact Genie customer service at 1-800-354-3643 for assistance.
This is incomplete. What you have to do I found, is program your car first with the remote, then go to the Genie and press the learn button, then go back to your car and press the programmed button on your car twice. Viola! It works.
Hi Bill - If you need any assistance with programming we are happy to help. You can reach out to our customer service at 1-800-354-3643 for assistance.
So you have to have one of the remotes for the genie garage you can't just use the normal program button on the actual garage door opener. Seems really redundant and annoying.
You do have to have a Genie remote to program your HomeLink. The first step is training the HomeLink to know what brand, and technology garage door opener, it is being programmed into.
I chose model 3120 and it took me here, which has nothing to do with my model. The written instructions are not helping at all. We have 2 cars that have always used Homelink and we cannot get this new opener to program. And of course, try calling the 800#. You will never get through. I am really sorry we didn’t spend more on a better Liftmaster.

2022 silverado will not progam to this opener. I have spent 2 days trying every way under the sun. The rolling code method doesn't work. Brand new truck and 1 year old garage door opener shouldn't be this fucking hard.
Sorry to hear of the trouble with programming your vehicle. We would be happy to help you resolve this. Please contact Genie customer support at 1-800-354-3643 for assistance.
@@johnstuart3851 I apologize for the hold time you experienced. If you would like to email your contact information to reviews@geniecompany.com I can have someone reach out to you.
I agree that the instructions are confusing.Maybe you need to watch this 50 times. The online chat is even worst. They send you a link then they disappear.I should have chosen a better brand.THAT'S how disgusted I am.
Only 5 steps and combinations?? You should have at least added a step where the user has to spin clockwise in circles three times while depressing all buttons. Your engineers need to get it together!!
We would be happy to help you resolve any issues you are having programming your remote. Please contact Genie customer support at 1-800-354-3643 for assistance.
Good God this is the most confusing video I've ever seen. Is this showing me how to program my Genie remote, or my vehicle? If I can use a Genie remote button with a red light (which I assume means it hasn't been assigned yet), how does my vehicle get programmed with the correct unit? Feedback for Genie: Just put a "pairing" button on the opener; push the pairing button, then press and hold whatever it is you want to pair (vehicle button, Genie remote button) and you're done. None of this Clearing, red light/green light, hold for 10 seconds nonsense
Hi - Since HomeLink makes the in car vehicle system, you have to train the system to know you are going to use it with a "Genie' branded garage door opener. So yes you are training the system, and then programming the system into our unit. If you need assistance contact us at 1-800-354-3643 we will walk you through the programming
Been trying for a half an hour - it’s a good thing I don’t have any place to go at the moment.

It’s all a mystery…. Yippee

Did you fix it? Also are you using a different remote or a genie remote? I’m thinking it only works on specific remote?
Perfect instructions - I tried everything, Genie manual, Toyota owners manual, numerous forums - nothing worked. Followed this exactly and was up and running in less than a couple minutes.

How can I configure it with my car if I don't have the remote control?
You cannot program the Homelink In-Vehicle remote system without having a working remote for your garage door opener.
Toyota should include a link to this video in their manuals.

It breaks down like this:
Homelink needs to copy the handhelds code so it can masquerade as the handheld remote. Then you program the homelink to your door just like you would program a handheld remote.
Here are the steps:
Erase homelink in vehicle first by holding outside buttons for 20 seconds.
Copy handheld remote code to homelink by holding handheld remote button until red and green lights light up. Release handheld button and press twice, light will be red.

Now go to your garage door opener and press the square button for 3 seconds.
Go to homelink and press desired opener button twice.
Garage door should now respond to homelink
It wasn't really that confusing. You literally just reiterated the video.

You would need to purchase a compatible remote for both, , program the remote, and use it to train homelink to the unit.
So annoying that it was a comment that held the secret!
I really wish folks could take the time to explain to people what they are doing - before they tell them how to do it.
In this case - these instructions can be summarized as:
1) Copy your good remote's *certificate* into the new remote..
This was helpful I got it programed!
How do you Erase & Reprogram this tiny wireless remote ?
Hi Nath, It would depend on your model number. If you have an operator with a learn code button, you would press and hold the learn code button until the led next to it quits flashing. (then you would need to reprogram everything back in). If you have an operator with a PRO/SET button you would 1. Press and hold the program button until the round LED turns blue,
then release. 2. Press and hold the Up(+) Down (-) buttons at the same time, until the both LEDs flash blue and go OFF.Then you will need to proceed with programming. Here is the link to programming this remote: th-cam.com/video/Yx--M-tvqtg/w-d-xo.html
This is tricky.
Anyone know a trick with 2015 ford escape I've been doing it and everything matches up with what he says but it's not working
Print the instructions ON THE UNIT! Thank you. 😊
I wish I'd never bought a Genie opener..... cannot get the car programmed.... What a pain in the ass!!!!!!!!
Call us at 1-800-354-3643 we can walk you through it.
On my opener the light flashes purple but after about 20 seconds It turns red
There are some different things that could be causing the red LED light. If this is a new installation, the limits need set before programming the remotes. If it is already set, please contact Genie customer service at 1-800-354-3643 for assistance.
It's not working for me bmw I have the 2028 model.
Thanks a lot. Easy to follow. It works.
This is incomplete. What you have to do I found, is program your car first with the remote, then go to the Genie and press the learn button, then go back to your car and press the programmed button on your car twice. Viola! It works.
I could swear that is exactly how it was as I watched this video. Did you see something different?
You are correct sir!
That's what the damn video shows to do.
Awesome I got it done
Did not work with single button remote with 1028 toyota 2020 Home link
Please reach out to us at 1-800-354-3643 and we can walk you through it.
People go to the next video immediately. This one is way to complicated. Next few I looked at work perfectly.
WOW that is complicated. Yeesh.

Mr Rogers?
It took several tries and a lot of persistence to program a 2015 Audi Q5
So you have to have one of the remotes for the genie garage you can't just use the normal program button on the actual garage door opener. Seems really redundant and annoying.
You do have to have a Genie remote to program your HomeLink. The first step is training the HomeLink to know what brand, and technology garage door opener, it is being programmed into.
thank you!
My Lexus is300 won't connect :(
Hi Rangel,
Some vehicles have additional/special programming. We can walk you through the programming if you are in need of further assistance. 1-800-354-3643.
This doesn’t work with a 1055 and a 2019 Nissan Rogue.
Hi Chris! It should, please contact Genie customer service at 1-800-354-3643 for assistance.
I am going to replace these two genies less than two years old with lift masters.
Didn't work , check the manual 7055
These steps do not work on genie 2028 model
Call us at 1-800-354-3643 and we can walk you through the steps.
This has been an absolute nightmare ... geez
We'd love to help you, call us at 1-800-354-3643.

That couldn’t be anymore confusing....
Why so complicated?? Why every opener is different??
Hi - we do not make or manufacture the HomeLink system, we are compatible with it. We supply programming instructions to our garage door openers to make it easy.
Cleveland from Family Guy?
? Nope lol
I have the exact same remote shown and it doesn't work. Even the Acura dealer can't get it to sync. What a pain in the ass
After doing all this, sell your first born child, THEN press the button.....
and do the Hokey Pokey.
My model is 2028 and your tutorial for synching my remote and car to the device is not working!!!! Please post up an appropriate tutorial !
@@GenieCompany With an estimated 40-minute wait on hold. What a shitshow.
This is a confusing
This didn’t work. This really is a horrible process especially when the app goes down.
This is so ridiculous. At it for an hour and neither of my '21 Fords will connect to the garage door opener. There HAS TO BE a simpler way.
Only 5 steps and combinations?? You should have at least added a step where the user has to spin clockwise in circles three times while depressing all buttons. Your engineers need to get it together!!
Don’t work
This process is stupidly complex. I suggest reading lots of comments first because the video doesn't make it simpler.
